‘The Simpsons’ Creator Matt Groening Gets A Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Last Friday we saw photos from Paul McCartney‘s award ceremony on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. As you may recall, Sir Paul was given the 2,460th WoF star … today, we learn that Simpsons creator Matt Groening was honored yesterday with the 2,461st star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Groening‘s star ceremony yesterday was timed perfectly for the celebration of the 500th episode of The Simpsons as well as Groening‘s 58th birthday today. Yep, it looks like Matt has got a LOT to celebrate these days.

Party Pills
President Barack Obama Ecstacy Pills Hit The Streets Of Texas

Last month we learned that a new brand of heroin has hit the streets of NYC which features a cartoon image of Edward Cullen on the packaging. This Twilight Heroin is believed to be branded as such in order to entice younger users. In that blogpost, I mentioned that back in the day I recall a bunch of ecstasy pills making the rounds in Detroit, MI that were shaped like Pokémon and Teletubbies characters. It turns out that these days, a new batch of ecstasy pills are making the rounds … police in Texas busted a guy with a bunch of ecstasy pills that were shaped like President Barack Obama, which is but one of the trendy forms of ecstasy pills that are all the rage these days:

President Barack Obama’s approval rating may be hovering in the 50 percent range, but that doesn’t mean America’s Commander-in-Chief isn’t catching on with new constituents. There is now a line of Ecstasy pills made in the image of the 44th president of the United States, according to Texas police who have snatched a batch off the streets. Ecstasy is known for a sense of elation, diminished feelings of fear and anxiety, and ability to induce a sense of intimacy with others. Perhaps a good Election Day strategy to get out the vote? A stash of the brightly colored tablets was found Monday during a south Texas traffic stop. Police in Palmview detained a driver after finding black tar heroin, cocaine, marijuana and several Ecstasy pills in the back of his car. The drugs look like a “vitamin for kids,” police spokesman Lenny Sanchez said. Police say that other Ecstasy pills they found were made to look like the cartoon characters Homer Simpson and the Smurfs. The 22-year-old driver is expected to face felony drug possession counts. Palmview is near the border with Mexico. No word on the driver’s political affiliation.

Dang … these pills really do look like children’s vitamins. I remember I used to LOVE eating Flintstones Chewable Vitamins … these ecstasy pills look just like them. As you can see in these photos, President Obama has been immortalized in pill form along with Homer J. Simpson, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Snoopy and more. It’s so crazy that this is the way that people prefer to take their drugs. I guess different strokes for different folks. Kids these days.

First Look at the new set of $0.44 stamps
‘The Simpsons’ Go Postal

Earlier this month we learned that the famed animated family The Simpsons would be making their way to a $0.44 postage stamp near you and today we get our first look at what Homer, Bart, Lisa, Maggie and Marge Simpson will look like on their new stamps … behold:

“Simpsons” fans can get the first peek at stamps featuring Homer, Marge & Co. — and vote for their favorite — when the U.S. Postal Service unveils the designs Thursday morning. The stamps will be available nationwide on May 7. “This is the biggest and most adhesive honor ‘The Simpsons’ has ever received,” said creator and executive producer Matt Groening. Executive producer James Brooks quipped, “We are emotionally moved by the Post Office Department’s selecting us rather than making the lazy choice of someone who has benefited society.” The Postal Service is encouraging people to vote for their favorite “Simpsons” character on its Web site (http://www.usps.com). Fans also can preorder the 44-cent first-class stamps on the site and register for a sweepstakes for a limited-edition “Simpsons” poster signed by Groening. Elie Dekel, executive vice president at 20th Century Fox Licensing & Merchandising, said the previously announced stamps are a key part of the show’s 20th anniversary celebration. “‘The Simpsons’ is more than just a television show, it’s an American institution,” he said. “These stamps help solidify this legacy.” David Failor, U.S. Postal Service executive director of stamp services, also predicted a benefit for his organization. “Issuing ‘The Simpsons’ stamps, which includes known philatelist Bart Simpson, will serve as a great opportunity to interest youngsters in stamp collecting.”

It’s not every day that I get excited about a new postage stamp … well, OK, there is never a day that I get excited about a postage stamp … but I do think it’s kinda cool that The Simpsons have each been honored with their own stamp. There is a requirement in this country that says that only deceased people and animated characters can be featured on postage stamps … happily, The Simpsons fall into the second category. In an age where snail mail is becoming less and less important, I think it’s very wise of the US Postal Service to do fun things like this in order to get people to buy stamps. After the jump, check out how the rest of The Simpson family will look on their own stamps …
