Last week we learned the upsetting news that Lionsgate films is planning to remake the already perfect 2000 film American Psycho. Today we learn that author Bret Easton Ellis, who wrote the novel American Psycho, is in full support of the remake plan. Ellis not only knows who he wants to play the role of Psycho protagonist Patrick Bateman (ugh) but he has full faith in Nobel Jones, who will write and direct the new American Psycho. Read on.

Ugh … it is with a heavy and disappointed heart that I pass along the TERRIBLE news that Lionsgate films is moving forward with a remake of the already amazing film American Psycho. As you should be well aware, American Psycho stars the superb Christian Bale as the complex character Patrick Bateman … and the film itself already stands as one of the perfect horror-type films of the new century. As a result, Hollywood thinks it’s time to go back and try and suck some more money out of the story by putting out remake version of the film. No star has yet been attached to the remake but a writer has been chosen. Read on for all the known deets about this horrible plan to remake an already perfect film.

Word on the street is that Duncan Sheik, the musician who created the music for the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Spring Awakening, has signed on to work on a musical version of American Psycho (the book by Bret Easton Ellis which was made into a film starring Christian Bale). My initial reaction to this news is, WTF? But, the more I think about it … the more I can see how Sheik might be able to turn out a fantastic body of music for Psycho just like he did for Awakening:

Duncan Sheik will write music and lyrics and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa will pen the book for a musical version of Bret Easton Ellis’ American Psycho. A timeline, along with casting and a creative team, for the project will be announced at a later date. Ellis’ 1991 novel centers on a Wall Street banker who is also a serial killer. The book incorporates multiple references to the popular music of the 1980s, the era in which the story is set, and it is expected that Sheik’s original songs will reflect the period in a production that will also use hits from the era. Sheik won a Tony Award for the score for Spring Awakening. His new musical Whisper House recently opened at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego. His musical Nero received a developmental staging at New York Stage and Film in Poughkeepsie in 2008. Aguirre-Sacasa, a writer on the HBO series Big Love, has written such plays as Based on a Totally True Story, Good Boys and True, and Dark Matters.

I’m more familiar with the film than I am with the book … and I *really* love the film. As with any project like this, the final product could turn out really cool or it could turn out disastrously bad. I trust Duncan Sheik, tho. He is a great talent and has already proved himself with Spring Awakening. Alls I know is there are a few really HOT scenes in the film that I would LOVE to see come to life on the stage. Filming continues this week on the NYC set of the new film The Fighter, which stars Christian Bale as an ex-training coach turned crack user and Marky Mark Wahlberg as an up-and-coming fighter, as new scary photos from the set continue to come out. The latest pics of Christian Bale are really very horrifying to look at … especially in comparison to how amazingly hot the man looks usually … like, for example, the way he looked in his role as Patrick Bateman in American Psycho:

Say what you will about the man’s acting abilities (after all, he wasn’t all that great in Terminator: Salvation and was only marginally improved in Public Enemies … and don’t get me started on that voice he uses in the Batman films), he really outdoes himself physically when he prepares for a role. Christian Bale looks like a bona fide crack head in this new photo:

Yikes doesn’t even seem to encapsulate my feelings on this photo. I can deffo appreciate the mans commitment to his craft but I’m very much looking forward to the wrap of this movie so that Bale can go back to lookin’ hawt again. Yeesh.
