Return To Form
Watch: Jennifer Lopez & Pitbull Perform ‘On The Floor’ On ‘American Idol’

New American Idol judge Jennifer Lopez, who just released her new album Love? this past Tuesday, got the party started on the competitive reality TV show American Idol last night with a surprisingly vigorous performance of her single On the Floor. J. Lo was joined by rapper Pitbull (who guests on the track) for last night’s performance and she truly exhibited a return to form on the stage. In recent years, Lopez‘s performance style has been very lackluster (you may recall J. Lo fell on her ass during a sad performance at the 2009 American Music Awards) but with her new album (buoyed by her new job on Idol), it looks like Jenny from the Block is back as a serious pop star. Watch video of her full performance below.

Jennifer Lopez & Steven Tyler Show Up In New ‘American Idol’ Promo Videos

Back in September Fox released the first official promo photo of the new judging panel for the upcoming season of American Idol — made up of Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson. A few days later, AI producer Nigel Lythgoe posted a photo on Twitter of the AI judges hard at work at auditions for the show. Today we get our first look at the first video promos that feature Jennifer, Steven and Randy doing what it is they are being paid millions to do … nod their heads along to auditions:

Altho I am NOT a fan of American Idol I deffo plan on watching at least the first couple eps of the new season … just to see if this new judging panel will make the show any better. IMHO, AI will never be the same without Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell but I’m certain J. Lo, Steve and Yo Dawg Jackson will do their best to try and get YOU to keep watching American Idol. After the jump, check out the two new promo videos that feature the new AI judges hard at work …

The gang's all here
The New ‘American Idol’ Judges Get To Work

Last week we learned officially that Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson had been signed to judge the 10th season of American Idol and today we learn that the new judges have already started their judging duties. Steven, J. Lo and Randy (along with hanger-oner Ryan Seacrest) were on hand to judge auditions this week and producer Nigel Lythgoe decided to share a photo on his official Twitter profile:

It’s great to be back on American Idol. The judges were great.

While I’m still not convinced that this new AI judging panel will be the show’s saving grace that so many people are hoping and praying for, at least we know that they are hard at work to try and fix the show. I mean … just seeing these 3 sitting at the judging desk just looks so wrong. I fear this judging panel is gonna be a big flop. I can feel it my bones.

‘American Idol’ Releases A Promo Photo Of The New Season 10 Judges

Yesterday we learned officially that American Idol has chosen its new judges for the upcoming 10 season of the series … the panel is made up of Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler and returning original judge Randy Jackson. Today we get to check out a nicely airbrushed promo photo of the new AI judging panel along with Idol host Ryan Seacrest:

Along with the new judging panel, there will be some changes the competitive element of American Idol as well. There will be no guest mentors for the contestants, only Jimmy Iovine will be on hand as the sole mentor all season long. It sounds like the use of instruments will be amended … or taken out completely. The contestants will no longer be forced to perform songs outside of their genre of choice … the focus will be on decades of music rather than forcing the contestants to sing genre songs they aren’t comfortable with. There will be allowances for guest judges from time to time. And, most importantly, the show will go back to creating American Idols … which, except for Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, hasn’t happened on the show in a very long time. To be honest, I’m not impressed with these changes … nor with the new judging panel … but at least fans of the show can see that they are trying to fix the once very-popular show. After the jump, check out some photos from yesterday’s Idol judge announcement event to see what the new judges looked like onstage, in person …

Steven Tyler is in! Jennifer Lopez is in! Randy Jackson is in!
‘American Idol’ Officially Announces Its Season 10 Judges

Last month we learned that Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler had signed on to judge the upcoming 10th season of American Idol on Fox. A couple of weeks ago, we learned that Jennifer Lopez had, too, signed on to judge the upcoming season of AI. Today, Fox made that news official when it revealed LIVE via online video stream the new judging panel for season 10 of American Idol which, very confusingly, still includes Randy Yo Dawg! Jackson:

Golden Globe-nominated actress, platinum-selling recording artist, movie producer and entrepreneur Jennifer Lopez and multiple Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter, and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Steven Tyler, the frontman of Aerosmith – the best-selling American rock band of all time – have joined AMERICAN IDOL as judges. Lopez and Tyler will join returning IDOL judge Randy Jackson for the 10th anniversary season, which premieres January 2011 on FOX. In addition, Jimmy Iovine, chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M Records, co-founder of Beats Audio and one of the world’s most successful and prolific music producers, will join AMERICAN IDOL as an in-house mentor. Throughout the season, IDOL will go behind-the-scenes to feature Iovine working with and lending his expertise to the contestants as they compete to become the next American Idol. As part of Universal Music Group’s long-term alliance with AMERICAN IDOL, Interscope Geffen A&M will market, promote and distribute albums globally from AMERICAN IDOL finalists and winning contestants across a broad array of retail and new media platforms. “For nine years I’ve enjoyed watching artists compete to get a meaningful chance to achieve their dreams,” said Lopez. “I know from my own experience how hard it is to succeed, and I’m looking forward to discovering and nurturing that spirit in the many AMERICAN IDOL contestants I look forward to meeting this year.” “I’ve been on tour for most of my life in a band with four guys who judge me every day. Sometimes it hurt, but it only made me stronger,” said Tyler. “I want to give everybody a little love before I decide who goes home heartbroken. If you don’t like what I say, don’t get mad, get better. I’m ready to bring some rock to this ‘roller’ coaster and show these kids if they have the dream, the talent and the drive, they will be the next American Idol.” “I can’t believe it’s been 10 years of the greatest show in the world,” said Jackson. “I am looking forward to this next season; we are going to knock it out of the park. Season 10 is going to be hot!” “We are all thrilled to have Interscope Geffen A&M now be the distributor for AMERICAN IDOL’s music,” said Iovine. “I’m looking forward to working as a mentor on the show, where I’ll work with the talent to help them develop and grow week to week. This will also give the audience a deeper look into the artists’ abilities and give viewers more insight when making their choices.” “Our 10th season begins with a completely invigorated panel of judges with Jennifer and Steven joining Randy. This is combined with the world’s most successful and brilliant music executive, Jimmy Iovine, becoming the contestants’ special mentor,” explains series creator and executive producer Simon Fuller. “AMERICAN IDOL in 2011 promises plenty of surprises and positive changes, and we look forward to continuing to innovate and lead the way for others to follow.”

I have to say, as a non-watcher of the show, official news of this casting does nothing to make me want to start watching the show. This seems like such a mismatched group of folks … I just don’t get it. But, Fox is really counting on this casting to help revive the once hugely popular show. After the jump, check out video from the live stream announcement that took place online just moments ago …

According to TMZ
Jennifer Lopez Officially Signs On As A Judge On ‘American Idol’

As soon as Ellen DeGeneres announced that she is leaving American Idol as a judge, we heard that Jennifer Lopez would be joining the show in her place. Then we heard that due to her “diva demands”, J. Lo would NOT be joining AI as a judge. Today, according to TMZ, we learn that Jennifer has officially signed on the dotted line and WILL join American Idol as a judge … read on:

TMZ has confirmed … Jennifer Lopez has signed a 1-year deal with “American Idol” for “a little more than $12 million” — this according to sources connected with the show. It’s somewhat surprising that the deal is only for one year … given the nature of the “A.I.” franchise. Nonetheless, it is a done deal and Jennifer Lopez is expected to be at the judges’ table for auditions next week.

Now, the folks at Fox would like us to believe that J. Lo was set to join AI all along but I don’t buy it. My guess is that negotiations stalled right around the time that Jennifer posted that tweet message that implied that she didn’t want the AI judging job anyway. My guess is that someone caved in the negotiations (J. Lo) which got the deal done. Now, last month we learned that Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has also signed on as a new AI judge … but Fox as not yet confirmed that report. For that matter, they’ve yet to confirm J. Lo‘s signing as well. But considering TMZ‘s track record with these sorts of things, I’m willing to bet that they are right about this Idol casting. Now that it’s almost certain that Jennifer Lopez will judge the next season of American Idol, do YOU think it’s enough to get people watching the show again?

Fox has yet to comment/confirm
Steven Tyler Reportedly Gets The ‘American Idol’ Judging Job

It’s (almost) official! Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has reportedly nabbed one of the coveted judging positions on the upcoming season of American Idol. As you may recall, we first heard that Tyler was in talks to judge AI back when it was announced that Ellen DeGeneres decided to leave the show as a judge. Despite the fact that as of last week, Tyler still hadn’t been asked to sign a contract, reports out today seem sure that he has, in fact, gotten one of the judging slots on Idol … because one of his bandmates spilled the beans:

The “American Idol” judges table is beginning to take shape: Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler has signed a deal to join the Fox talent competition for Season 10. A source close to the negotiations has confirmed reports that Tyler has signed on the dotted line to fill one of the vacancies left by Simon Cowell and Ellen DeGeneres. Fox, as usual, declined to comment. Rumors that Fox was in talks with Tyler and Jennifer Lopez leaked out in July. But Fox and the producers have consistently declined to comment, saying no announcements would be made until the deals were completed. In an interview with the New Jersey Star-Ledger published Wednesday, Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton said his band’s frontman was definitely heading to “Idol.” “Steven is doing `American Idol.’ The ink is dry on that,” Hamilton said. “So, we’ll have to work around his schedule for a new record.

As you may recall, we also heard that Jennifer Lopez was going to be an AI judge alongside Tyler but that actually did not work out … so I’m not sure what to make of this new report. It seems logical that the guys in Aerosmith would be in the loop about whether or not Steven Tyler would be judging the show … so I tend to believe that he actually got the job. It still seems like a strange choice to me but there is no question Steven Tyler knows what he’s talking about when it comes to music. It turns out that we’re not even sure if Randy Jackson is coming back as an AI judge … at this point, all we know (for almost certainty) is that Steven Tyler will be on the panel. HMMM … I wonder who will join him.

Instead, the job may go to Shania Twain
Jennifer Lopez Suggests She Didn’t Want The ‘American Idol’ Judging Job Anyway

After hearing last month that Jennifer Lopez was close to signing on as one of the judges on the Fox reality TV series American Idol, we learned earlier this week that Fox decided to pass on bringing J. Lo on as an AI judge reportedly because her diva demands got too out of control. In the wake of all the talk of Jennifer‘s “firing” from a job she never really had in the first place, J. Lo posted an image on her official Twitter profile that seems to suggest that she is not at all upset that she won’t be judging American Idol … apparently because she is too bizzy deciding with of her numerous diamonds to wear:

Along with this photo, J. Lo tweeted Hmmm… what should I wear today? which, IMHO, suggests to her numerous Twitter followers that she’s got more important things to do than worry about judging one of the most popular TV shows in America right now. To that I say, Yeah right. But, I guess we won’t have to keep ourselves up at night worrying about J. Lo and her bank account. La Diva Latina is swimming in diamonds, there is no need to worry about her at all.

In any event, now that Jennifer Lopez is deffo out … TMZ is reporting that Fox has an ace replacement idea up their sleeve … and her name is Shania Twain. Read more, after the jump …

La Diva Latina demanded too much
Jennifer Lopez Will NOT Be A Judge On ‘American Idol’

A couple weeks ago we learned the shocking news that Ellen DeGeneres quit and that Kara DioGuardi had been fired from their job as judges on American Idol … in their places, it was widely reported that Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler of Aerosmith would be taking their places on the judging panel. Fox made NO official confirmation that either J. Lo or Steven had been hired but it was believed they were both close to signing on to judge AI. Today, People magazine is reporting that sources close to the AI drama reveal that Jennifer Lopez will NOT be a judge on AI after all … reportedly because J. Lo‘s demands got out of hand and Fox decided to let her go:

Jennifer Lopez won’t be a judge on American Idol after all, according to a source close to the situation. The singer-actress had been closing a deal to be a permanent judge on the show for its upcoming 10th season but the deal fell apart. “Her demands got out of hand,” says the source. “Fox had just had enough.” With Simon Cowell and Ellen Degeneres both departing the talent search, the network had been pursuing a number of celebrities as potential judges, including Aerosmith‘s Steven Tyler. But now that Lopez is out of the running, the network may be looking at their earlier top picks again. Other reports have said that the panel could go back to the original three-judge format.

HMMM … this is … interesting. Despite the fact that American Idol has been losing it’s luster, judging the show is still one of the most coveted jobs on TV right now. I cannot believe that Jennifer Lopez would do anything to jeopardize getting on the show … if this report of diva demands turns out to be true, then I guess J. Lo‘s reputation as La Diva Latina lives on. It’s a bummer … I liked seeing the softer, fun side of J. Lo swinging on the swings last weekend … I was actually looking forward to seeing her on AI. I’m actually very surprised Idol is having this much trouble filling the judging positions … I wonder who will be chosen to replace J. Lo on American Idol now.

As new Idol is crowned, Simon Cowell says goodbye
‘American Idol’ 2010 Picks A New Winner

And so … America picks a new American Idol to reign over the landscape of competitive reality TV musicdom. Last night, the latest season of American Idol came to a close in a lavish finale episode that featured a host of big name musical acts, a tearful goodbye to the show’s meanest judge and — of course — the revelation of America’s pick for this year’s Idol. Here are a few photos of some of the big name musical acts who performed during last night’s finale ep:

While I am not a huge fan of the show itself, even I have to admit that American Idol puts on some of the most entertaining finale episodes on TV these days. Last night’s ep featured performances by Janet Jackson, Christina Aguilera, Alanis Morissette, Bret Michaels, Carrie Underwood (herself a former AI winner) and more! It was deff worth tuning in just to see these pop stars pay homage to America’s biggest musical popularity contest. But, of course, the entire night lead up to the big announcement. In the end, there were 2 contestants left … Crystal Bowersox and Lee DeWyze. But only one of them could be named this year’s American Idol. And the winner is …
