Earlier this year, hot on the heels of the marginal success of the remake of the famed 80′s horror slasher flick Friday the 13th (which hit theaters last February … Friday the 13th), we learned that plans were in the works for a redux of A Nightmare on Elm Street. Back in February, a ridic rumor that Lindsay Lohan had signed on to appear in the film started making the rounds and was quickly debunked. BUT, the movie did go into production and today we get our first look at Jackie Earle Haley in the role of Freddy Krueger in the new version of A Nightmare on Elm Street:

There was plenty of speculation as to who would take over the Freddy Krueger role once Platinum Dunes and New Line made it clear Robert Englund would not return for the new A Nightmare on Elm Street (set visit preview). Buzz built when actor Jackie Earle Haley signed onto the role and continued when fans considered what he would look like in the reboot hitting theaters on April 16, 2010. Here is your first look at a photo of Krueger, but it looks like we’ll have to wait a bit more for the full reveal.

ARGH!! This “first look” is a very crafty way to tease the new film without giving ANYTHING away. That could be your aunt Mable in this Freddy Krueger costume for all we know. I’m sure there will be plenty more to come from this new redux in the coming days … I understand Nightmare will have a heavy presence at Comic-Con this weekend. Earlier today a ridic rumor began to be reported that Lindsay Lohan had signed on to appear in the proposed remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. This afternoon, Lindsay‘s reps are categorically denying that she has signed on to do any such thing:

Freddy Krueger won’t be getting his claws on Lindsay Lohan! A rep for Lindsay Lohan tells Life & Style the star is not set to film the upcoming remake of the horror flick “Nightmare on Elm Street.” “It’s not true, someone got Punk’d,” her rep tells Life & Style of the latest internet rumor floating around. Meanwhile, if you want to ask Lindsay herself, she’s in New York City all week attending fashion shows. Today she was spotted front and center at Charlotte Ronson’s fashion show!

Not that I have anything wrong with Lindsay Lohan possibly getting slaughtered by Freddy Krueger‘s nine inch nails, but we only *just* heard about this proposed Elm Street remake and I doubt that someone as “big” as Lindsay would be attached to the project so soon. That’s not to say she may not get the gig at some point … at least now she knows they’re interested. In any event, I’m pretty sure that we will DEFFO be seeing more of Lindsay at various NY Fashion Week events over the coming week … wherever will L. Ron show up next?
