Last night I didn’t get to it, but HBO premiered the highly anticipated documentary VICE Special Report: Fixing the System. I’m about to watch now, and I hope you all will tune in. Mass incarceration and its relationship with American racism is an incredibly important topic. Ta-Nehisi Coates’ Atlantic cover story is a must-read on the subject, and I have a very personal connection to the history, which I’ve also written about. President Barack Obama made history as the first sitting US President to visit a prison and I’m hoping Fixing the System sheds some light on thees issues for all of us. Check out the trailer above and head on over to HBO to watch the full special. You can get involved HERE.
Last night at the 2015 Global Citizen Festival in Central Park, Beyoncé introduced First Lady Michelle Obama, who went on to speak about an important new campaign aimed at changing the educational opportunities (or lack thereof) for millions of young girls around the world. I’m really excited about the campaign because some of my favorite people are getting involved, including Kerry Washington, Mindy Kaling and Malala Yousafzai. Click inside for more!
Y’all. I am sitting here, furrowing my brow and cracking up at the same damn time, because I cannot get over the stunt Nicki Minaj just pulled. Is she serious? I asked myself. Is she literally and figuratively snatching away Zendaya’s Barbie spotlight to make room for her own? If so, why in the hell would she do so? These are the difficult questions that plague us this Monday morning. Please click inside and help me figure out the extreme pettiness of Nicki Minaj.
My Saturday was a really fun, totally jam-packed day complete with old BFFs, new BFFs, booze, dancing and Jewel. I met up with my friend Caleb for a catch-up session over lunch which was really great because he and I always have the best convos. Then I met up with my friends Austin and Jono for an evening with Jewel Kilcher at Book Soup in West Hollywood (she was doing a book signing so, duh, we had to go). Then we picked up another friend, Yuval, for a night of dancing, drinking, pizza and more dancing in WeHo. Altho we raged fairly decently, we didn’t stay out til the wee hours because I gots more fun stuff to do today so, let’s get to it. More »

The other day I was having a conversation with a friend of mine who used to live in the south of France with his two children. A word of advice to all of you parents out there: don’t EVER have a conversation with anyone who used to live in the south of France with their two children. I knew that daycare was cheap (AKA affordable for everyone) in France, but did you know that in some places it’s 100% free for everyone with children under Kindergarten age? Did you also know that children in elementary school enjoy four different recesses throughout the school day, because administrators in France get that children are better students when they have plenty of time dedicated to moving their bodies freely? Yeah. Meanwhile in America, a school district in Washington state has just banned the game of tag AKA happiness from their schools. Click inside for more.
If you fell asleep last night in the shirt you were wearing all day while watching The Knick on HBO, and you haven’t put a comb to your hair in 48 hours, and you feel yourself coming down with one of those bullshit end of summer/beginning of fall colds, this bud’s for you. Get up, get dressed, do your hair and try to do at least one thing that Jessica Chastain has been doing on the red carpet. Because she. Is. Killing. The. Effing. Game. Whether she’s rocking Elie Saab Couture (that black gown, though) or Elie Saab Resort (that friggen jumpsuit) she is slaying my world. Peep the gallery for more!

THIS. GAVE. ME. LIFE. Have you ever loved a song so much, you’ve literally sung it at the top of your lungs, whilst tears were pouring down your face? OF COURSE you have. Has anyone ever taken a video of you doing this, and then the singer of that song posted it on her Instagram, for all of her 26.4 million followers to see? Probably not. Rihanna wants you to know that her #CurrentMood is that of this Rihanna Navy superfan in Rio de Janeiro, who loves the song What’s My Name more than you’ve probably ever loved anything in life. On September 15, Caitlyn Jenner filed paperwork with the court petitioning the judge to have her gender and name legally changed and yesterday, the ruling judge granted the petition. In just a matter of months, the former Bruce Jenner came out to the world as a transgender woman and has undergone changes to become who she truly is in practically record time. Altho not perfect, Jenner has absolutely made huge advancements in transgender visibility and has done much to help other people struggling with the myriad of difficulties that transgender people face. At pretty much every step of the way, Caitlyn has shared her journey with the world not (as some people tend to believe) for fame or attention but because I honestly believe she wants to use her story to help and educate others. While there will undoubtedly be more changes ahead for Caitlyn, having her gender and name legally changed to match the person that she has been her whole life must be a really amazing feeling for her … and an inspiration for others.
