The news many Batman fans have been waiting for for many months now is finally here … director Christopher Nolan has finally announced the titled of his upcoming 3rd Batman film and has revealed some important information about the villain that will be featured in the next Batman film … rather, he reveals who will NOT be the villain. But first … the title. Nolan tells The LA Times that the next Batman film will be titled Batman: The Dark Knight Rises. And contrary to rampant rumor, The Riddler will NOT be the film’s main villain:
Christopher Nolan’s third Batman film will be called “The Dark Knight Rises” and though the Gotham City auteur isn’t ready to reveal the villain of his 2012 film, he did eliminate one of the big contenders: “It won’t be the Riddler,” Nolan said in an exclusive interview with the Hero Complex. Nolan was most eager to talk about the fact that Warner Bros. had agreed with his argument that the film should resist the current 3-D craze and instead use high-definition approaches and IMAX cameras to strike out on a different cinematic path than the stereoscopic technology that, for better or worse, has become the dominant conversation in the blockbuster sector … As for the title, it shows the writer-director’s intention to keep his Bruce Wayne trilogy tightly stitched together. “We’ll use many of the same characters as we have all along, and we’ll be introducing some new ones,” Nolan said cryptically. I had an odd thought: What if Nolan somehow brings back Harvey Dent? The only reason I even mention it is because, back during post-production on the second film, Nolan told me that the title “The Dark Knight” was just as much about Dent and his fall from the status of shining-knight civic crusader. Dent was plainly dead at the end of the last film, though, and Nolan has been intent on keeping his Gotham City film firmly rooted in a gritty gangland realism– this isn’t a franchise that has veered off into the supernatural or even much super-science. Nolan plays things close to the vest … and he chuckled when I tried to get a few more details out of him. “Oh, you know me, I don’t talk” … I asked if he could imagine a time when Warner Bros. would let a filmmaker shoot a Batman script where the villain isn’t one of the signature creations from the comic books. “Ah, Geoff Boucher, master of the leading question,” he said with a chuckle. That’s when he did agree, however, to eliminate a villain candidate, namely Edward Nigma, the green-suited Riddler, who many people (myself included) assumed was the next natural choice. That character could be taken in a lot of directions — think of Kevin Spacey’s character in “Seven” as a compass point for one of those dark paths — but Nolan and his team are going a different way.
Ahhhh … and there you have it. The title, The Dark Knight Rises, is fine but I’m much more intrigued by the villain … or villains. The only classic Batman villains who have been featured in Nolan films are Ra’s al Ghul, The Scarecrow, Two-Face and of course The Joker. Apparently “some” of those characters will be coming back … but what of Catwoman, The Penguin, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze and The Riddler? These are classic characters from Batman‘s Gallery of Rogues. Well, we now know that Riddler is out … does that mean these other villains are out too? I fully trust Christopher Nolan, he has proven himself VERY capable of doing right by Batman … but I’m dying to know, will there be a big bad Batman villain at all? What do y’all think … and what do you think of this title?

Nicki Minaj, who’s debut album Pink Friday will be released on Monday November 22, has just released the official music video for her new single Check It Out. The song, which features will.i.am on guest vocals, has been gettin’ lots of airplay in recent weeks … and now the video is upon us:
The song is really catchy, particularly because it samples the infectious music of Video Killed the Radio Star by The Buggles. The video isn’t as weird as some might expect from the adventurous Nicki Minaj … but I love it. After the jump, check out the music video for Check It Out … More »
Great news Nine Inch Nails fans … Trent Reznor has got a treat for all of us! 21 years after the release of NIN‘s debut album, TR is re-releasing Pretty Hate Machine in a remastered form, complete with new album artwork created by longtime NIN visual director Rob Sheridan. Here is our first look at the album artwork for Pretty Hate Machine – The Remaster and the full text of the press release announcement:
Fans can now revisit the conception of Nine Inch Nails. Trent Reznor’s Null Corporation has teamed with UMe/The Bicycle Music Company to release “Pretty Hate Machine: 2010 Remaster” on November 22, 2010. After completing the score for David Fincher’s The Social Network, Reznor oversaw the digital remastering of Pretty Hate Machine from the newly unearthed original tapes with engineer Tom Baker (whose NIN credits include “The Downward Spiral,” “Broken,” “The Fragile,” “With Teeth” and “Ghosts”). This remastered version includes an eleventh track, a cover of Queen’s “Get Down Make Love,” originally the B-side to the “Sin” single and produced by Al Jourgensen. Rob Sheridan, NIN’s longtime art director, has also re-imagined the packaging of “Pretty Hate Machine” under Reznor’s supervision. As a young musician in Cleveland, Ohio, Reznor took a job at a local recording studio and employed unused studio time to develop his own material. The nascent album was later recorded with his favorite producers including Flood/Mark Ellis (U2, Depeche Mode, PJ Harvey), John Fryer (Cocteau Twins, This Mortal Coil), Adrian Sherwood (Ministry, Cabaret Voltaire) and Keith LeBlanc (Tackhead). The result was the first Nine Inch Nails album, 1989′s “Pretty Hate Machine.” All songs were written, arranged, programmed and performed by Reznor. The album featured the breakthrough singles “Sin,” “Down In It” and “Head Like A Hole,” and ultimately sold over 3 million copies, reaching Triple Platinum sales status. In the wake of the album’s initial underground success, NIN soon developed a reputation as one of the best live acts in rock and joined the inaugural Lollapalooza tour in 1991. NIN have since sold more than 18 million albums, collected Grammy® Awards and headlined arenas, amphitheaters and festivals worldwide. The Bicycle Music Company acquired the rights to “Pretty Hate Machine” from a division of Prudential Securities in the spring of 2010. It was Bicycle’s intention from the onset to enable Reznor to regain some control of this lost piece of NIN’s legacy, resulting in this artist approved 2010 reissue of one of music’s most groundbreaking and influential albums. Note: The previous CD version was reissued in 2005 but was not overseen by Reznor and is now out of print.
This is FANTASTIC news! Pretty Hate Machine introduced the world to Nine Inch Nails and remains one of my all-time favorite albums. PHM had a huge impact on my life when it was released back in 1989, one that still resonates today. I am really excited that the album is finally being rereleased in remastered format. You have to wonder … what other NIN albums might be remastered and rereleased? I can’t wait to find out. In the meantime, I’ll be counting down the days to November 22 when Pretty Hate Machine – The Remaster gets released in stores. If you so desire, you can preorder the album from Amazon HERE. Who’s excited?
As I mentioned yesterday, David and I met up with our dear friends Emma and Josh for a 25th anniversary screening of the classic 80′s film Back to the Future:
To accommodate Em and J-Z, we decided to head down to Marina del Rey, CA for the screening … and we had a BLAST! Emma showed up with a case of mini Yellow Tail wine and, well, it made the movie’s awesomeness even awesomer. I couldn’t get over how perfectly BTTF captures the spirit of the 1980′s … in almost every scene (well, set in 1985) there is a pop culture icon featured in the film … from portable cassette players (in this case Aiwa not Sony), to jean jackets with buttons on them … to those famous Nike sneakers. OY! I just love the movie so much … it was really a dream come true seeing it on the big screen for the first time ;D
After the movie we went out for a quick sushi dinner and decided to call it a night:
Last night was so much fun … we’ll be hanging with Josh and Emma all Halloween weekend long, since October 31 is our Friendiversary.
No plans for tonight … just gonna lie low and enjoy my Tuesday.

It would seem that the rumors of Mariah Carey‘s “pregnancy” just won’t die down … because now instead of merely reporting that Mimi is pregs, some folks claim to know that she is not only pregs but pregs with a boy:
Congrats, Mariah! An insider tells HollyBaby.com that the diva and her husband, Nick Cannon, are expecting a son in March next year and are set to announce their happy news very soon! Mariah Carey is four months pregnant with her first child — a boy! — a source close to the star tells HollyBaby.com. The Grammy award-winning singer and her husband, Nick Cannon, have been tight-lipped about her pregnancy, but she is expected to make an official announcement in the next couple of weeks when she begins promoting her new holiday album, Merry Christmas II You (which is being released on Nov. 2). “She’s having a boy, but the reason that Mariah didn’t want to say anything is because she is 40, and she’s superstitious,” the insider says. “But she’s going to appear on Oprah and The View, so she’s planning on making the announcement soon” … Mariah took fertility drugs to get pregnant, according to the insider, who says, “the fertility drugs were the reason for her weight gain earlier this year.” She has also given up drinking alcohol — “she stopped drinking back in March or April this year,” the source says.
HMMM … considering how healthier Mariah has looked in recent months, it wouldn’t be too hard to believe that she has been doing fertility treatments but … I won’t believe Mariah is pregs until either she or hubby Nick Cannon confirm the news or she starts baby bumping out. So, yeah, let’s just toss this report onto the pile with the others. That being said, it is possible that some or all of this latest report is true so … we’ll just have to wait and see. What do y’all think … does this report of Mimi‘s pregnancy carry any more weight with you than the other reports do?

Last Friday we learned of a report from In Touch Weekly magazine that claimed that Janet Jackson had gotten herself engaged to be married to her billionaire boyfriend Wissam Al Mana. Today, in an interview with Good Morning America to promote her new film For Colored Girls, Janet Jackson categorically denied that she and Wissam are engaged:
She had to deal with the same rumours about her last boyfriend. But Janet Jackson took it all in her stride this morning as she laughed her way through a simple denial – that she is not engaged to her boyfriend of several months Wissam Al Mana. The 44-year-old singer looked radiant as she chatted with the breakfast show host on ABC’s Good Morning America today. Janet was on the show to promote her upcoming film For Colored Girls – a movie based on Ntozake Shange’s play ‘For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf.’ Unlike the original play which featured only 7 women known by colours performing the collection of 20 poems, the movie has given each of the 20 characters names. Each of the poems deal with intense issues that particularly impact women in a thought-provoking commentary on what it means to be a female of colour in the world. The film is released on November 5 and has an all star cast including Thandie Newton, Kerry Washington, Whoopie Goldberg, Macy Gray and Michael Ealy. The interview inevitably turned to the singer’s personal life and when asked about her blossoming relationship she shot down any marriage rumours. ‘He is a very private man so i don’t talk about our relationship,’ she said of Al Mana, an Arab businessman she began dating in April after splitting from long-term boyfriend of seven years, music producer, Jermaine Dupri. During that relationship, the couple dodged continuous rumours about an engagement and even a secret wedding. ‘But it is really important that I just say this,’ continued Jackson to the host. ‘They (media) have been trying to marry me off for a very very long time.’ No I am not engaged, I will say that. I am in a really good place.’
Not at all surprising that Janet is not engaged … so I’m glad that’s been settled. I must say, the more I hear about For Colored Girls, the more I am dying to see the film! The trailers that I have seen look so powerful, I am really anxious to see this film. While we may not be congratulating Janet on any upcoming nuptials, we may be congratulating her on a few award nominations.

At the start of this month, Courtney Love “inadvertently” posted a semi-nekkid photo of herself on her official Twitter profile and was so “embarrassed” that she had done so she announced that she was quitting Twitter! Her retirement from Twitter lasted only a few days and then she was back to posting random/meaningless messages and photos as if nothing had happened in the first place. Today we get to see a new photo, shared by C. Love, that shows the trainwreck in bed with a scrubby-lookin’ dude … presumably her boyfriend. Check out the new man in Courtney Love‘s life:
With his long messy bleach blond hair and distinctly grunge look he’s a dead ringer for Kurt Cobain. And maybe that’s the reason that controversial rock chic Courtney Love has the hots for this mystery guy. The 46-year-old just loves to share all the intimate minutiae of her everyday life with her legion of Twitter fans – most recently posting a picture of her and the Kurt lookalike, seemingly naked in bed together. Appearing with her head on the man’s bare tattooed chest, her make-up running, Courtney looks somewhat worse for wear. The man in the photos looks dazed as he leans on the singer, his long bleach-blond hair tangling with hers. The overall look is a startling throwback to that of Courtney’s deceased husband Nirvana legend Kurt Cobain, who shot himself in 1994 aged just 27. And this is not the first time Courtney has shown the world all-too-intimate details of her life. Earlier this month she posted even more provocative shots for the world to see. The shocking photos showed Courtney posing in just her underwear with her hands covering her breasts. In another photo she wore tights and knickers but no skirt as she bends over near a mirror … Courtney, who has candidly spoken about her battle with drug addiction, was so embarrassed by the scandal she temporarily stopped using Twitter.
Courtney and her new man look like a perfect match, wouldn’t you agree?
