Sandra Bullock Issues A Public Statement, Denies Sex Tape

Sandra Bullock, who has remained absolutely silent since the cheating scandal involving her husband Jesse James broke a few weeks ago, has finally ended her silence to issue a public statement shooting down reports that she is featured in a sex tape. There have been unconfirmed reports that a sex tape of Bullock and James was about to go public but Sandra has decided to speak out and deny the existence of any such tape:

Sandra Bullock has broken her silence during her marriage crisis, denying an Internet report there’s a sex tape with her and husband Jesse James. “There is no sex tape,” she says in a statement to PEOPLE on Tuesday. “There never has been one and there never will be one.” Until now, Bullock, 45, had not commented, remaining in seclusion since reports surfaced that James, 40, allegedly had cheated on her with at least four other women … She spoke out in response to online report that James possesses a graphic sex tape which he could possibly use as leverage in a divorce case.

Now that Sandra has put this silly rumor to rest, it sounds like she may finally be ready to get back into the public eye. Her decision to speak out at long last on this issue might signal her readiness to move forward with her life. I doubt she’ll be issuing any other public statements about her private life but she may be ready to at least return to the world of the living again. The next time we hear from her on her private personal matters, it may come in the form of divorce proceedings.

MTV Is Casting For A New Batch Of ‘Jersey Shore’ Guidos/Guidettes

Earlier today, we saw photos of the original cast of Jersey Shore as they moved into their temporary new home in Miami Beach, FL to film another season of their show … but it sounds like MTV wants to have its cake and eat it too. While the first batch of JS guidos/guidettes have begun filming another season of drama, MTV is lookin’ to cast an entirely NEW cast of folks to take up residence in the actual Jersey Shore for an entirely different show. Confused? Yeah, me too!

It’s out with the old and in with the new at the Jersey Shore! Do you have what it takes to be the next Pauly D or Snookster? MTV producers are currenty casting a fresh new new crop of “tanned and toned fist pumper(s)” (Their words, not mine….) who can prove they “dominate the gym, tear up the dance floor and rule the bedroom” (I don’t make this stuff up….) to star on future seasons of the network’s breakout reality smash Jersey Shore. On Monday, Doron Ofir Casting launched JerseyShoreCasting.com, the official casting site where aspiring reality stars can apply for Jersey Shore 2010, not to be confused with the original Jersey Shore, which is currently shooting in Miami with the GTLing cast that fans have grown to love to loathe … “I am searching for the proudest, loudest, and wildest to carry on the legacy and No haters allowed,” Doron Ofir, Executive Casting Director for the new Jersey Shore, said in a statement Monday. The casting call is searching for potential cast members nationwide, and filming on Jersey Shore 3 could possibly begin this summer with a season premiere coming as early as October. Interested future Fist Pumpers must be over 21 and “appear to be younger than 30.” For more information, log onto jerseyshorecasting.com.

OOOOH, I get it … Jersey Shore 1.0 is in Miami (and will likely get a name change at some point) and Jersey Shore 2.0 will film at the actual Jersey Shore this Summer for airing after JS 1.0 airs this Summer/Fall (or, it’s possible that MTV is only willing to give the original cast 2 seasons and then they are out … meaning this casting call would be for Jersey Shore season 3). I gotta say … brilliant move, MTV. They’ve got themselves a greasy, tanned and not too bright cash cow that they plan to milk for all its worth. Do YOU think you’ve got what it takes to be on MTV‘s Jersey Shore? Get those applications in, y’all! YOU could be America’s fave new Guido/Guidette!!

Did ‘One Life To Live’ Get Too Gay For Daytime TV?

The folks at ABC are finally going on the record as to why the ground-breaking same-sex storyline featured on the daytime drama One Life to Live was axed 3 months before it was meant to run its course. OLTL featured a very open, very honest love story between two male characters named Kyle Lewis and Oliver Fish (played by Brett Claywell and Scott Evans respectively). A few weeks ago, an announcement was made that the couple’s storyline would be hastily wrapped up and that the couple would be leaving the soap for good. ABC tried to downplay the move in light of the fact that it has already been decided that One Life to Live will end at the finish of this season and all of the storylines will have to be wrapped). But, in a statement released to TV Guide, ABC has admitted that the real reason the Kyle & Oliver storyline was axed was because the too gay storyline did not “appeal” to the US daytime audience:

One Life to Live’s landmark same-sex duo, Kyle Lewis (Brett Claywell) and Oliver Fish (Scott Evans), will abruptly exit the soap next week, amidst speculation that ABC dumped them due to complaints from homophobic viewers. The guys’ final scenes together air April 12, when Fish, who’s a cop, goes to court and wins custody of baby Sierra Rose. Kyle, a doctor, is seen just once more after that, on April 16, confirming some huge DNA news to Rex (John-Paul Lavoisier). None of the OLTL brass has been talking on the record about this controversial termination, which came three months before Claywell’s contract was due to expire. Claywell at least got official word from the show the day before the news broke. Evans, who is considered a recurring player and therefore not entitled to official notice, had to hear about his axing via Twitter. At first, ABC tried to play down the double firing in a press statement that trumpeted the Kish story for its boldness and its GLAAD awards, claiming that the couple did indeed resonate with the audience, and making it seem as if their story had simply played itself out and come to a natural conclusion. But, finally, we have some honesty and a little bit more clarity! In an exclusive statement to TV Guide Magazine, ABC Daytime PR chief Jori Petersen now says “The Kish story did not have the appeal we hoped it would. We are going to spend our time on stories that have a more favorable reaction from our audience.” Naturally, the situation has the Kishinistas apoplectic. “It’s the most angry and vocal fan reaction to a firing I’ve ever seen and a lot of it is coming from straight women,” says Jamey Giddens, editorial director of the popular Daytime Confidential Web site. “This goes far beyond the response we got when Days of Our Lives fired Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn.” Gay media, which applauded OLTL for its realistic and passionate depiction of men in love, is handling things way better than the fans. “Kish brought a lot of attention and energy to OLTL, so this is not a smart move from either a business or a karmic point of view,” observes AfterElton.com editor Michael Jensen. “Still, we shouldn’t throw out the baby with the bathwater. ABC made history here. The network deserves credit for making a lot of progress.” Claywell seconds that emotion: “Pulling the story off the air is like taking two steps back but I don’t fault ABC,” the actor says. “The fact they let us tell this story at all is what’s important, and if I had to lose my job to get this on TV, then I’m proud of that. I’m just kinda sad and really sorry that there’s still so much fear and ignorance in our society. Maybe five years from now, this won’t happen to two other actors portraying this kind of story.” Claywell suspects the writing was on the wall back on December 30, 2009 when OLTL showed Kyle and Fish in the throes of lusty sex, a first for gay males on a daytime soap (if you don’t count that down-low guy and the psychotic hermaphrodite on Passions). ABC chose not to promote the event in advance, as if hoping not to alarm or infuriate viewers. “I was definitely hurt by that,” Claywell says. “We should have gotten a lot more attention for those groundbreaking scenes. For them to not tell anybody that we were about to make history makes me think the wheels were already in emotion to get rid of us” … The firing will leave CBS’ As the World Turns as the only soap with vital gay characters right now, and that has AfterElton’s Jensen noting a disconnect. “Isn’t the goal of the soaps—and really all programming—to lure younger viewers?” he asks. “Well, it’s the younger viewers who are just fine about seeing gay people on TV. They are much more tolerant than older viewers. They live in a world where diversity is increasing and is an accepted part of life.” Jensen adds that gay fans feel a sense of ownership when it comes to gay characters. “We have so few good representations out there that you become attached to the ones that do exist,” he says. “Obviously, we can’t demand that OLTL keep gay characters on its canvas. It’s their show, not ours. But we sure have a right to say ‘If you have no gay characters then you’re not doing your job when it comes to reflecting reality.’”

I don’t watch OLTL but I understand that while this honest love story was being told, another storyline was unfolding that involved fake same-sex relationship orchestrated to win an election … or some nonsense like that. I’m sure that confusion didn’t help matters. In the end, soap operas mainly appeal to an older audience that is not as accepting of new things as a younger audience might be. This is why the longest running daytime dramas revolved around age-old storylines that aren’t at all revolutionary … soap operas rarely rock the boat. I’ve been watching The Young and the Restless for years and while some gay characters are featured, they are never in the forefront, never central characters and their love affairs are never highlighted in any real way (The Bold and the Beautiful, which revolves around the world of fashion design, does not currently feature ANY gay characters at all). It does not surprise me that soap operas are dying … one by one. If they will not evolve and grow then they will surely all die out. In the end, I feel it’s for the best. The end of stagnant soap operas that choose to ignore a large segment of the population will only make way for more TV shows that feature the inclusion of all types of TV characters. I do commend One Life to Live for making a go of the Kish storyline. At the very least, daytime TV viewers got to see that same-sex love is really no different than heterosexual love. Love is love.

Jake Gyllenhaal Reveals How His Biceps Got So Big

Jake Gyllenhaal, who will star this Summer in the big screen adaptation of the video game Prince of Persia, has revealed how he managed to pump up his body to get it in peak physical condition for his role as the muscular Prince Dastan. Jake explains that he used the French martial art of Parkour (taught to him by the inventor himself) to beef up his body to look like this:

“[I] never did anything this intensive before [to change my body]. It’s a physical role. And when I commit to playing a part, it’s 110 percent,” said the 29-year-old actor. “We worked really closely with David Belle, who invented Parkour. I worked with a lot of gymnasts. I started jumping off of a lot of things that were padded and learned the fundamental stuff, and then slowly started working on harder surfaces, really carefully. And I’d say, ‘OK, I’ll try it,’ and then I’d say, ‘OH GOD. OH, please.’ But then I’d get it, and we’d go a little further and a little longer and a little higher and just kept it up,” explained Gyllenhaal, who did many of his own stunts during filming, even scaring himself at some points. “It got a little bit dicey there near the end, when they saw that I liked doing things that were dangerous. I tried my hand at things that were pushing it a little bit. There was this big 35 foot jump that I did that got a little hairy.”

Jakey poo has vowed that he plans to keep his body in shape by practicing Parkour even tho filming has wrapped on his movie … and I, for one, hope he keeps his promise. With the Summer months on the way, there will be plenty of opportunities for Jake to go shirtless. I don’t care how he gets his body to look this good, I just want him to continue ;)

Angelina Jolie Visits Refugees In Bosnia

Yesterday we learned that Angelina Jolie and fauxhubby Brad Pitt made their way to Bosnia to visit with refugees there on behalf of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and today we get to see photos of Angelina with some of the people she met in Bosnia … behold:

UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie has called for steps to end the continuing suffering of displaced victims of the Bosnian War after hearing their harrowing tales and seeing their grim living conditions during a brief visit this week. Jolie, travelling with her partner Brad Pitt, on Monday took a break from filming to visit Bosnia and Herzegovina and highlight the plight of 113,000 Bosnians and 7,000 refugees from Croatia. These people were forced from their homes during the violent break-up of the former Yugoslavia in the 1990s and many of them are living in collective centres, often in appalling conditions. The acclaimed actress was clearly moved by the spirit – and the suffering – of the people she met and she pledged to highlight their case. Most of the people she talked to have been living far from home for well over a decade. Many of their children were born in exile and have never seen where their families come from. Jolie kicked off her first trip to Bosnia and Herzegovina by visiting a crumbling and dilapidated collective centre in the eastern town of Gorazde, which lies on the Drina River and was a UN-protected enclave throughout the 1992-1995 war. She and Pitt visited another collective centre housing displaced people in Rogatica, where the inhabitants told the couple about the daily hardships they endure, including a lack of basic services such as running water. “After seeing these people and hearing their stories, I cannot overemphasize the need to focus on the well-being of the most vulnerable individuals of the population,” Jolie said, adding that by “ending displacement and ensuring quality of life, we can help to promote progress and long-term stability.” Among these “most vulnerable individuals” were a group of internally displaced women who suffered very bad experiences during the war. While Pitt went off to speak to their menfolk, Jolie spent some private time with the women. After the meeting, an emotional Jolie said they had told her about the ordeal they had suffered before escaping to Gorazde during the war, including rape and torture. “I have my body, but it no longer has a soul,” one woman told her.

Madonna Lays The Foundation For A New Girls’ School In Malawi

Last week we learned that Madonna and her children made their way to London, England from NYC, NY for a stop-over on their eventual journey to Malawi, Africa. Madge has promised to bring her adopted children back to their homeland as frequently as possible so that they will grow up knowing where they came from. But this latest visit to Malawi served another purpose as well. Maddy was on hand to lay the first bring in the foundation of a new girls’ school that is being built in Malawi … check it out:

It was a poignant moment, but the significance of which may not be recognised by the four-year-old girl adopted by Madonna at just this moment. Mercy James joined her mother and sister Lourdes as she returned to Malawi for the ceremony to lay the first brick for the foundations of a £10million school for girls in the impoverished country. The brick had the inscription Raising Malawi Academy for Girls and the motto, Dare to Dream etched into it. ‘It has always been my dream to train women leaders who can help develop the country,’ Madonna said during the event. The ceremony, held at the site of the school in Chinkhota village, some 15 kilometers (nine miles) from the capital Lilongwe, was attended by education officials and curious villagers. ‘I grew up as a poor girl with my mother, I had no chance for good education. It is my aim to see Malawian girls get the right education,’ Madonna said.

The brick-laying ceremony was only the latest endeavor that Madonna participated in during her visit to Malawi. She was also on hand yesterday to participate in the unveiling of a much-needed fresh water pump in the district of Mchinji. At that event, she was aided by her youngest daughter Chifundo Mercy James. After the jump, check out a few photos from that event … More »

Whitney Houston Forced To Postpone Tour Due To Illness

Uh oh … it looks like the concert trail has finally taken its toll on our dear Whitney Houston. Whitney, who has been resting between tour stops for the last few weeks and was due to begin the European leg of her Nothing But Love World Tour has been forced to cancel tonight’s show in Paris, France due to a respiratory illness. Whitney, naturally, is very upset that she has been forced to postpone the start of the European leg of her tour but she vows that the show will go on … later in the week. Here is a report of tonight’s cancellation along with the text of her official statement:

U.S. pop diva Whitney Houston has postponed a concert in Paris on Tuesday night due to illness, delaying the European leg of a world tour that received a rocky reception in Asia and Australia. Concert organizers said the 46-year-old singer had been excited about opening her European tour in Paris at the Omnisport Bercy and regretted having to postpone the show. “Whitney is suffering from an upper respiratory infection and after a consultation with her doctors has been advised to postpone her performance,” said a statement from the concert’s organizers. “Whitney and her band apologize that the show has to be rescheduled on such short notice.” Her tour will resume as scheduled in Manchester, Britain, on April 8 and a new date for Paris will be announced shortly … Her publicist Kristen Foster issued a statement denying Houston was having health problems and insisted she was in great health and having a “terrific time on her tour and with her fans.” Houston’s tour began in South Korea in February with the singer performing in Japan then Australia. She is set to tour Britain, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland by June.

Blah. I’m certain her critics will pounce on this cancellation like rabid dogs hungry for a bone. It is not out of the ordinary that things like this happen and the fact that she plans to perform later in the week AND make up this Paris date is proof that this cancellation is not out of the ordinary. It’s better that Whitney rest and get well while she can now rather than force herself to perform and risk having the cancel more shows down the line. Whitney Houston is a pro and pros know what they are doing. I fully trust that she will be back on the performance stage very soon … wowing her loyal fans with all the vim and vigor that is expected of a mega-superstar like Whitney Houston.
