Who says SNL isn’t funny anymore?! Okay… a lot of people say SNL isn’t funny anymore. Still, I found TWO funny things that happened on Saturday Night Live last night, so there! Jay Pharoah opened the show as the new Barack Obama and I was CRACKING UP! If you missed, you gotta check out the video above. You will lurve, I promise. ‘Barack‘ explains the importance of the first black president having adorable young daughters instead of creepy older sons (very important, America) and re-introduces us to his secret weapon. Loved it. Peep the video above and click inside to see what Clint Eastwood and The Chair are up to. Don’t act like you haven’t been wondering. Enjoy!
Parents of fourth graders in Hughey Elementary School in El Paso, Texas are concerned and angry over an assignment given to their children recently. In an effort to teach students about the September 11 attacks, one of the school’s teachers apparently told children to recreate the events in a drawing. The mother speaking in the above video was told that the teacher gave very specific (and quite disturbing) instructions about what to draw, going so far as to ask children to draw the planes hitting the towers and the people jumping out of them. Children were told “the Afghans did this because they hate all of us and want to kill all of us.” The school district and administrators are investigating this, and I’m curious to hear what you guys think. On the one hand, this story is crazy disturbing, but it also reflects tons of other misinformation that gets taught in schools every day. I also saw plenty of comments on the HuffPost, where people were kind of like well, these kids need to know what happened. I agree… I just don’t see how telling children that ‘the Afghans did this because they hate all of us…‘ is the best, most historically accurate way to tell them what happened. But that’s just me! Your thoughts?
During her performance at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ last night, Madonna dedicated her performance of her Golden Globe-winning song Masterpiece to Lady Gaga. It’s unclear if Madonna was being sarcastic or if she was being genuine but … she announced that the song was being dedicated to Gaga. Madonna then added, “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery” … which sounds a bit like a dig. BUT, she goes on to say that she likes Gaga and she promised to share the stage with her “soon”. Again, we can’t be sure if Maddy was kidding, if she was being a jerk or if she was being sincere. I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Check out the video above … it starts out with a performance of Holiday and then at about the 6:00 mark you can hear Maddy‘s dedication to Lady Gaga and then her performance of Masterpiece. What do you think?
I had a bit of free time yesterday afternoon (when I prolly should’ve been running, tbh) so I decided to head out and see the new Paul Thomas Anderson film The Master. I had heard a lot of great things about the film and it’s been far too long since I’ve seen any movie so away I went. Obvs, we’ve all heard that The Master is loosely based on the life of L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology … and despite the fact that the CLAIM is that the movie is not about LRH, it so is. I must admit, I don’t know much about the life of LRH so I was really going into seeing this movie blind … and I’m happy to report that I liked what I saw. More »

Earlier this week many of us weighed in on a photo that Jessica Simpson shared of her baby girl Maxwell. Four month-old Maxwell was wearing a bikini and, while many people found this to be wildly inappropriate, others thought it adorable and harmless. And seeing as how mommy-bashing never gets old, another celebrity mother has come under fire for tweeting a picture of her daughter that many people found sexual or suggestive. Kate Gosselin (of Kate Plus 8) shared a photo of one of her daughters trying on her high heels and the Twitter response was very critical. Click inside to see the photo that had everyone up in arms.

Before there was Martin Solvig, before Dr. Luke … and way before Max Martin — there was Roxette. For some reason, Sweden is home to some of the MOST infectious pop music in creation and back in the very late 80s/early 90s, Roxette was the band that entertained and charmed the world. It’s been decades since Roxette has toured the US and this year the have returned. The band has been on tour since February but I had to wait until last night to see them in concert — for the first time EVER! Last night’s show here in LA was the second to last show of the tour (they are in Mexico City tonight) and they put on a really fun show. Click below to check out photos and video from last night’s concert. More »
Frank Ocean clearly wants me (and, okay… all of his fans) to have the best day ever. It’s only been a few hours since the footage from his Saturday Night Live performance was released, and we now have the video for Pyramids. I’ve gone on and on (and on) about how much I lurve this song, so you can imagine the proverbial backflip I did when I saw this link on his Twitter. Frank is known for having some amazing visuals to his songs and, once again, he sought out director Nabil to get a very specific, haunting sort of look. Nabil previously directed Frank‘s Novacane video and we’ve also seen his work with Kanye West for Mercy. Peep the NSFW video above (John Mayer makes another appearance) and join me inside for a bit of a breakdown. I have, like, three things I need to say about this effing amazing video!

We all got to meet Nicole Snooki Polizzi‘s bundle of joy when he made his official debut on the cover of People magazine earlier this month. The Italian booties were insane; the hair was insane and Lorenzo Dominic‘s poofy little face was just too adorable for words. Yesterday, Snooki tweeted a really cute pic of her with Lorenzo and although we don’t really get to see the baby’s face, Snooki‘s got that cute sleepy-but-totally-in-lurve look going on, lol. Back in July we learned that popstar Mariah Carey was officially signed as a new judge on the forthcoming season of American Idol. In the weeks that followed, there was much discussion about who would join her at the judges table. It was immediately reported that longtime original judge Randy Jackson would be demoted from judge to mentor so that the 3 judging spots could be filled with new judges. Nicki Minaj was a name we heard soon after as a potential new judge but her endorsement deal with Pepsi held up her signing because AI is sponsored by Coca Cola. Then we heard that Keith Urban and Enrique Iglesias were being considered as judges but talks with Enrique fell apart. Today we learn, officially, that the cola conflict has been settled and Nicki has signed on as AI judge. Joining her and Mariah at the table will be Keith Urban and … original judge Randy Jackson (who got the 4th judging seat due to the failed deal with Enrique).
