Betty White Does ‘The Portland Mercury’ Magazine

Betty White, the amazing actress who is EVERYWHERE these days — from hosting Saturday Night Live to starring in a brand new TV series for TV Land — is featured on the cover of the new issue of the free weekly Oregon magazine The Portland Mercury. On the cover, Betty is bikini-clad and wielding a flaming chainsaw while she rides a Centaur that is half horse, half John Ritter … behold:

Yes, folks, this is a real magazine … and this is the real current coverphoto. I understand the magazine polled their readers what they would like to see on the cover of their mag and this is what they wanted to see. Artist Andrew Zubko really managed to cull together all of the elements that readers asked for into one SPECTACULAR magazine cover. Betty White is a beautiful woman usually but I think her beauty reaches new heights on this magazine cover … wouldn’t you agree?

Superhero Hype

David and I were feeling pretty anti-social last night so we decided to shun all others for the quiet company of one another … once that got old after about a glass of wine and 2 re-runs of Sex and the City, we decided to try and salvage some of our Friday night by going to the movies. We decided to see Kick-Ass:

Kick-Ass was a pretty fun movie … a bit violent but it’s to be expected (what was not expected was that the bulk of the film’s violence came from 13-year-old actress Chloë Grace Moretz who plays the “real-life” superhero Hit Girl in the film). The movie envisions what it would be like if people tried to be superheros in real life and the hilarity that ensues. David and I really enjoyed the film but it is not something that you would take your kids to see. But if you’re in the market for an over-the-top and kinda violent action flick, then you should check it out. I have to say that I really hate the McLovin‘ kid (actor Christopher Mintz-Plasse) and he features heavily in this movie. His lispy, dickhead demeanor was really off-putting to me. He tends to play the same douche-like character in all of his films so, yeah, he was a turn-off for me … but the movie was enjoyable despite his inclusion. I was really impressed with Nicolas Cage who was both funny and believable as the superhero Big Daddy. His Adam West/Batman like quality was really fun. David and I both liked this film but, again, it’s a bit violent and silly so it may not appeal to everyone.

Today … we clean. Our place has gotten way messy so we need to do some serious cleaning today. I’m hoping to see the Banksy movie Exit Through the Gift Shop this afternoon so I’ll try to squeeze that in after I get my shizz straight here at home. Tomorrow … we’re thinkin’ about going to the LA Dodgers v. San Francisco Giants baseball game so it looks like it’ll be a pretty fun weekend around here. Happy Weekend to YOU!

Kathy Griffin Makes Her Pap Smear A Public Affair

In an attempt to raise awareness about the dangers of cervical cancer (as only she can do), Kathy Griffin posed poolside at the Palomar Hotel in Westwood, CA to undergo a pap smear check-up in front of cameras. Griffin plans to air this pap smear procedure on the upcoming season of her hit Bravo TV series My Life on the D-List but was happy to smile for the other cameras in attendance yesterday as well:

Kathy Griffin will attempt to outdo Katie Couric’s celebrity colonoscopy this Friday when she gets an on-air Pap smear for her cable series “My Life on the D-List” to raise awareness about cervical cancer. But whereas Couric modestly had her colonoscopy conducted at a hospital in Manhattan, Griffin is getting her Pap smear poolside at the Palomar Hotel in Los Angeles. If you wanted to watch Couric’s colonoscopy, you had to watch it on NBC News’s “The Today Show.” But Griffin’s Pap smear you can go see for yourself if you can’t wait to see it when her series returns to Bravo which, once upon a time, used to air arts programming. That’s right, Griffin, 49, is having a public, poolside Pap smear — which we’re guessing is a TV first, a pap smear first, a hotel first and too many other firsts to mention. “On Friday, April 16, [Griffin] will receive this important test in hopes that every woman will see how easy it is to get this done,” her publicist said in a news release. “Kathy feels that this cause is so important that she has bedazzled her [private parts] so it can be as ‘va-beautiful’ as it ‘va-can’ ” the news release added. Sadly, Griffin’s procedure will not be conducted by a hunky poolside attendant. Rather, it will be done by an actual “medical physician,” Griffin announced, via her publicist in a news release. The press also has been invited to cover the event poolside, her publicist said in the news release. You’ll want to check the evening news Friday — and all the celebrity suck-up shows — for their coverage.

As you might expect, the cameras were out in full force at yesterday’s event. If you’re curious for a sneak peek at what’s to come when Kathy‘s pap smear is showcased on Bravo TV later in the year, you can see a couple photos from yesterday’s event after the jump (don’t worry, the pics are SFW) … More »

Coachella Day 1: Surprise B-Jay

The 2010 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival officially got underway at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, CA yesterday with an opening day line-up that included — among many others — She & Him (made up of Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward), Them Crooked Vultures, Public Image Ltd., Street Sweeper Social Club (who opened for Nine Inch Nails and Jane’s Addiction last year) and Jay-Z. Because the erupting volcano in Iceland has forced the cancellation of air travel in Europe, a few bands were unable to make their way to California this weekend to take the stage at Coachella … but by pretty much all accounts, this year’s fest got off to a pretty fantastic start. Here are some photos of some of her performers who played yesterday on Day 1 and some deets about what went down in Indio:

Jay-Z brought his arena-sized stage show — complete with a guest spot by Beyonce — to the California desert Friday night (April 16), capping off the triumphant first day of the 11th annual Coachella Music and Arts Festival with a rapid succession of more than a decade’s worth of hip hop hits delivered with his trademark braggadocio. The rapper’s show, a celebration of ambition and triumph against long odds, was the perfect coda for an event that has has become one of the most respected – and successful – music festivals in the world. But from the cosmic hipster disco of LCD Soundsystem and the timeless ska-punk of The Specials to deadmau5′s triptastic dance spectacular to Calle 13′s salsa-hop, it was a day for dancing at the Empire Polo Fields, and even the unfortunate news that some European bands, like Friday’s The Cribs, would miss their spots due to travel disruptions from the Icelandic volcano eruption could ruin the good mood of the capacity crowd of 75,000. As Jay-Z breezed and thumped his way through a set that touched on the breadth of his career, anticipation for a surprise guest, one of the festival’s hallmarks, settled over the crowd. The rumoured collaboration by Dr. Dre turned out to be a false starter, but Jay-Z brought his wife Beyonce to the stage and together, the royal hip hop pair sharing a moment of public sweetness with the duet “Forever Young.” The visual component of Jay-Z’s performance made frequent obvious references to current issues, including a scrolling stock ticker and a short video clip of President Obama brushing off his shoulders, a now infamous public reference to the fact that his music has broken yet another barrier: it is listened to in the White House. New York, if not Brooklyn, was a recurring theme among the main stage headliners. Both Jay-Z and LCD Soundsystem, who each claim neighboring parts of Brooklyn as their home, led rousing singalongs of their odes to their hometowns. Before Jay-Z led an oceanic “Empire State of Mind,” James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem insisted that he close his band’s monstrous set with “New York, I Love You (But You’re Bringing Me Down),” a moment that felt provocative as one of the day’s only unavoidably meloncholic songs. Jay-Z also took time from his set to acknowledged other Brooklyn-based bands performing during the festival’s first day, including Passion Pit, Grizzly Bear and Yeasayer.

Each year it seems like Coachella gets bigger and bigger … and while it is up to the individual to determine if bigger means better, there is no question that the ever-growing music festival continues to draw huge audiences. I believe Coachella sold out really early this year, even after a change was made in ticket sales that insisted that attendees buy access to all 3 days (rather than in previous years where you could buy tickets for individual days if you so desired). After the jump, check out some photos of some of the celebs who showed up in the crowd at Coachella yesterday to partake of the annual event … More »

Lance Bass Gets His Hair Did

Playa mack daddy Lance Bass paid a visit to a hair salon in Beverly Hills, CA yesterday to get his hair snipped and he brought along a male friend for company. Here are a few photos from Lance‘s visit to the beauty salon:

If it’s one thing Lance Bass is never without, it’s a pretty boy by his side. In order to maintain that level of constant attention, homeboy has to ensure that he stays perfectly groomed, expertly coiffed at all times. Pimpin’ ain’t easy but Lance Bass makes it look like it ain’t no thang. You go boy … werq it out.

The Brangelina Kids Go On An Ice Cream Date

Here are a few cute photos of the eldest Brangelina kids — the O.G.s, if you will — enjoying a fun ice cream date in Venice, Italy with their grandparents earlier this week. While the littlest Brangelina twins were off with mummy and daddy, Maddox Chivan, Zahara Marley, Pax Thien and Shiloh Nouvel stepped out with their grandparents for some fun in the sun:

It’s kinda crazy how big the kids look in these photos. Without full-size adults to compare them to, all four of these little kids look like big kids. In no time at all, I know these young’ns are gonna be runnin’ the show wherever they go. I can’t even wrap my head around a future where these kids as young adults are showing up at parties and events together. Zahara and Shiloh look like little ladies already (well, Zahara more than Shiloh, actually) and I can’t get over how big Maddox is. It’s cute to see them lookin’ so happy over something as simple as a trip to the ice cream stand but, just wait, in no time these little kids will be young adults runnin’ things. I’m telling you, it won’t be long.

Listen: Britney Spears, ‘Dramatic’

New new previously unreleased Britney Spears song titled Dramatic has leaked its way to the Internets for our listening pleasure. While this song is believed NOT to have anything to do with the new album Britney is recording for release later on this year, it does appear to be an outtake from her earlier recording sessions:

The song previously leaked online when Heidi Montag first sang over the vocal and then released the song last year … but, at last, we get to hear the track in full without tags, without anyone else’s vocal but Britney‘s. Listen to Dramatic in full after the jump … More »
