It's Never Too Late To Remix This Ish
Don’t act like this song doesn’t pop into your head at least once (or twice) a week. Justin Timberlake‘s 2002 smash hit Cry Me A River is still a pretty big deal and B. Dolla doesn’t want us to forget it The Virginia native just remixed everybody’s favorite break up song and I am love, love, loving it! I never use this word because I’m not that kind of New York chic but… this remix is bananas (Ashanti voice)! Who says Mondays have to suck? Take a listen and check out B. Dolla‘s Facebook page for more.
Retro Adam & Eve
Last month we got to see that crazy controversial cover featuring Azealia Banks in the September issue of Dazed & Confused. The image of Miss Banks blowing up a condom got the magazine banned in several countries, but the interview was really quite interesting. This month, the folks over at D&C are going for a less controversial look, although their cover story does take a well-known biblical story for quite a spin. Supermodel Joan Smalls (recently named the number one model in the industry) and Sam Riley (of On The Road) cover the October issue of Dazed & Confused as a retro Adam & Eve. I absolutely love the photo shoot they did (in the gallery) and they’ve even got a short video, inside!
A few days ago we heard that Usher would be giving his first and last interview about his very public, very dramatic family troubles on Oprah’s Next Chapter. We watched Rihanna share some very intimate, serioust stuff a while back and Usher is now, apparently, doing the same. We have the full video and I am so psyched to watch, but have been asked/specifically instructed to wait until the love of my life gets home from work so we can watch together. Aghh! The things you do for lurve. I was excited just to learn more about the custody decision (many of us were surprised when Usher was given primary custody) but then I heard that Usher sort of, kind of, or totally confessed to sleeping with his ex-wife Tameka‘s BRIDESMAID and I just cannot. I’ve only watched the first few minutes and I’m into it. Oprah is really digging (as only she can) and methinks Usher is definitely going to reveal some epic information. Peep the full interview above and tell me if, by the end of it all, you’re lurving, hating, or indifferent-ing Usher Raymond.
Political Satire Makes Life Happy
Who says SNL isn’t funny anymore?! Okay… a lot of people say SNL isn’t funny anymore. Still, I found TWO funny things that happened on Saturday Night Live last night, so there! Jay Pharoah opened the show as the new Barack Obama and I was CRACKING UP! If you missed, you gotta check out the video above. You will lurve, I promise. ‘Barack‘ explains the importance of the first black president having adorable young daughters instead of creepy older sons (very important, America) and re-introduces us to his secret weapon. Loved it. Peep the video above and click inside to see what Clint Eastwood and The Chair are up to. Don’t act like you haven’t been wondering. Enjoy!
That-Ish-Cray Of The Day
Parents of fourth graders in Hughey Elementary School in El Paso, Texas are concerned and angry over an assignment given to their children recently. In an effort to teach students about the September 11 attacks, one of the school’s teachers apparently told children to recreate the events in a drawing. The mother speaking in the above video was told that the teacher gave very specific (and quite disturbing) instructions about what to draw, going so far as to ask children to draw the planes hitting the towers and the people jumping out of them. Children were told “the Afghans did this because they hate all of us and want to kill all of us.” The school district and administrators are investigating this, and I’m curious to hear what you guys think. On the one hand, this story is crazy disturbing, but it also reflects tons of other misinformation that gets taught in schools every day. I also saw plenty of comments on the HuffPost, where people were kind of like well, these kids need to know what happened. I agree… I just don’t see how telling children that ‘the Afghans did this because they hate all of us…‘ is the best, most historically accurate way to tell them what happened. But that’s just me! Your thoughts?
Madge Also Promises to Share the Stage with Gaga "Soon"
During her performance at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ last night, Madonna dedicated her performance of her Golden Globe-winning song Masterpiece to Lady Gaga. It’s unclear if Madonna was being sarcastic or if she was being genuine but … she announced that the song was being dedicated to Gaga. Madonna then added, “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery” … which sounds a bit like a dig. BUT, she goes on to say that she likes Gaga and she promised to share the stage with her “soon”. Again, we can’t be sure if Maddy was kidding, if she was being a jerk or if she was being sincere. I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Check out the video above … it starts out with a performance of Holiday and then at about the 6:00 mark you can hear Maddy‘s dedication to Lady Gaga and then her performance of Masterpiece. What do you think?
It May Or May Not Be Panty-Droppin Time... What?
Okay, as you guys know I kinda get inappropriate when Frank Ocean performs live so here we go. Inappropriate time. Frank Ocean performed on the season premiere of Saturday Night Live last night and John Mayer took the stage with him for two songs; Thinkin Bout You and (omg yes my favorite song off of Channel Orange and the song that redefined my summer) Pyramids! I didn’t catch the show but I’ve sooo been enjoying these videos. Still, I’d love to hear from anyone who watched! Was it… funny? That promo video had me excited for Frank but nervous about… the funny part, lol. I’m curious about how it all went down.
Anyway, back to staring into Frank Ocean‘s eyes for the next 3-7 minutes. Watch his Pyramids performance above and click inside to hear him go acoustic on Thinkin Bout You.
'I Wanna Go Through My Red And My Cherry'
Earlier this summer we got to hear an amazing new song from Nas and Amy Winehouse. Cherry Wine was absolutely one of my fave songs of the season and I’m so glad Nas is finally releasing a video. The collaboration took place some time ago and Nas spoke about his close friendship with Amy when it was released. I also learned recently that the two share the same birthday, September 14. This explains, perhaps, the timing of Cherry Wine‘s video teaser release. Peep the clip above and the full version of the beautiful song inside. I’m so excited to see the full video whenever it drops, but in the meantime Cherry Wine is back on repeat!
Severely Lacking In Funny
Last month we learned that Seth MacFarlane has been selected as the host of this weekend’s 38th season premiere episode of Saturday Night Live. Yesterday, we saw a photo of Frank Ocean rehearsing as the musical guest. Today we get to check out the promo videos released for this weekend’s episode of SNL and both Seth and Frank are featured in the clips. I’m very bummed to see that the promos are not funny … at all. But I suppose we can hope that the episode itself will contain actual humor. I mean … right? Meh. Even if not, we can be sure that Frank Ocean will deliver an amazing performance so … yeah. Check out the video above and see what you think. Does this video give you hope that this weekend’s ep of SNL will be worth watching?
