* "Gritty" actually means "ugly" for awards consideration
Jennifer Aniston has a new indie film coming out soon titled Cake and as you can see in the film’s first trailer, Jen uglied herself down in what appears to be an attempt for awards consideration. It is a commonly held belief that actors tend to take on “ugly roles” in an effort to appear more serious and, therefore, attract the attention of awards voters (think Charlize Theron in her Academy Award-winning role in Monster). Cake looks like Aniston‘s attempt at Oscar glory. The movie looks interesting, I suppose, but I can’t get past the obviousness of what she’s trying to achieve with this role. Have a look at the trailer and see if you are convinced. I might be interested in seeing Cake when it is released in theaters, if only to see whether or not Jennifer Aniston has the acting chops to make this gritty role as an addict work.

"I am under vicious attack"
Scott Stapp, the frontman for the band Creed, posted a 16-minute long video on the band’s official Facebook page wherein he reveals that he is broke and homeless. Stapp claims that an audit of his finances uncovered that much of his money had been “stolen” from him and he maintains that the person(s) responsible for the theft have launched a smear campaign to discredit him. Scott maintains that he is “living in a Holiday Inn” after he was forced to “live in his truck” and at one point, he didn’t have enough money to eat … which resulted in his being hospitalized. Whatever is going on, things don’t sound too great for Stapp. Click below to watch his video in full and get caught up on what is going on in Scott Stapp‘s life these days. More »

And it looks so weird
Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for Pan which, we now know, will be an origin of story of sorts that will reveal how Peter Pan came to be. While the premise sounds interesting, the first look at the movie in this trailer seems a bit weird. I cannot understand how Rooney Mara was cast as the Native American character Tiger Lily but the rest of the casting seems alright. Garrett Hedlund, as the young Hook, used to be friends with Peter pre-Pan, did you know that? I’m not sure why everyone is all gaga over Peter Pan these days but of the forthcoming Peter Pan projects, I think this one looks the most interesting to me. Check out the first trailer for Pan above then click below to see the first Pan posters. More »

The TV Guide
Last night I met up with my friend Eileen for a dinner hang at the Cat & Fiddle Pub in Hollywood (which is closing in a few weeks, I’m sad to say) before I met up with my friend Josh at the Echoplex in Echo Park to see live concert performance of some of the songs from Schoolhouse Rock. Now, I realize that all y’all under 30s probably have no idea what Schoolhouse Rock is or how important it remains to a generation of people but I can assure you, last night’s show was very impactful for me. Dinner with Eileen and the show with Josh conspired to make a Monday night that I won’t soon forget. More »

"We have our first genetically-modified hybrid"
AHHHH!! A few days ago, with the release of that short teaser video, we learned that the first trailer for the sequel film Jurassic World would be released on Thanksgiving night. Today, we see that Universal Pictures has decided to release the trailer a wee bit early. Click the embed above to get your first look at Jurassic World and get a really good feel for what the movie will be all about. As you can see, the dinosaur theme park from Jurassic Park has been expanded into a very popular, well attended, (apparently) smooth-running theme park called Jurassic World … that is, until the genetically-modified hybrid dinosaur (I’m guessing a T-Rex/Velociraptor hybrid) that has inexplicably been created breaks loose and wrecks havoc on the island. I honestly got CHILLS watching this trailer. Are we actually seeing Chris Pratt‘s character team up WITH the raptors to battle the monstrous yet unseen new hybrid dino?! OMG! Watch this trailer again and again, feel the feels, then let me know what you think about Jurassic World in the comments below. This movie is going to RULE all! AHHH!!!
