"Hi Tanners, I'm home"
Back in April we first learned that Netflix officially announced production of a Full House spin-off series titled Fuller House that is set to debut on the streaming network next year. In June, actor John Stamos put the reboot in jeopardy (as well as the lives of other drivers) when he got arrested for drunk driving. A couple of weeks ago, Stamos checked himself into rehab, only to check himself out just under two weeks later. Today, we see the first photos shared by John Stamos on the set of Fuller House. In spite of Stamos’s personal problems, it looks like it’s full steam ahead on production of this Full House spin-off sequel series. More »
Our American norm continues to confound others
The other day, for the first time ever, Trent posted something on his Facebook page that I immediately took issue with, because I knew there was no way it could be true. It was a small, square-shaped diagram that read 2015: 204 Mass Shootings in 204 Days. I saw that the source was the Washington Post and quickly looked for the article. No way there were 204 mass shootings this year. We’ve only really heard about, like 10 of them! So yeah, I was wrong. And that moment was proof of a certain denial we all have towards this issue, and proof of the fact that mass shootings are so common, we really don’t give all that much of a fuck about them anymore. So here’s another article about another celebrity speaking out against our gun laws and policies in America, even though this new wave of commentary will likely not change anything.

"I missed the point"
Yesterday we learned of the Twitter feud/beef/whatever between Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift after Taylor took offense to a series of tweets that Nicki posted about her lack of nominations at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards. Taylor erroneously believed that Nicki was calling her out and posted a response to Nicki that did nothing but ignite the needless “feud”. Yesterday afternoon, pop star Katy Perry chimed in with her $0.02 on the matter and without naming names commented publicly on the irony of Taylor lambasting Nicki for “pitting women against one another” when Katy believes that is exactly what Taylor has done to her in the past. Just a short time ago, Taylor posted an apology to Nicki on her official Twitter profile which, I’m guessing she hopes will bring this saga to a close. "It's unlike you to pit women against each other"
Sigh. As you may know, MTV revealed yesterday the nominees for their annual Video Music Awards, which will be handed out live on MTV on August 30. Not long after the noms were announced, Nicki Minaj took to her official Twitter profile to voice her disdain for her lack of VMAs nominations. Altho Nicki snagged 3 VMAs nominations (including 2 for her Anaconda music video), she lamented publicly the fact that she didn’t receive more nominations and, in the process, blamed her lack of nominations on the fact that she is not “a different ‘kind’ of artist” … which many took as a reference to the fact that she is Black, not Caucasian. In another tweet, Nicki made reference to the fact that another music video, which “celebrates women with very slim bodies”, nabbed more nominations which obviously upset her. I, personally, felt that she was referring to Taylor Swift but Nicki never once calls her out by name and, honestly, could’ve been referring to any other female artist that wasn’t her (like, for example, Beyoncé‘s 7/11 music video which is a video that “celebrates women with very slim bodies”). Taylor, too, felt that Nicki was talking about her and she retorted with a tweet of her own that accused Nicki of “pitting women against each other” … and the mess just took off from there. And thus, the great Twitter Beef between Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift was born. It’s hard to believe but Prince George, the eldest child of Prince William and Kate Middleton — the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, will turn 2 years old tomorrow (or today, if it’s already today in the UK … which I’m never sure about because Europe is always so far in the future to us here on the West Coast). His little sister, Princess Charlotte, has been getting all the attention lately — what with her being born and all — but now that the spotlight is off her for a minute, we can focus on the 2 year old prince. It seems like only yesterday that we heard that Wills and Kate were pregs with their first child and now, here we are, 2 years later and 2 babies. To celebrate George‘s birthday, the royal family has released an official new photo of the prince which was shot by famed photographer Mario Testino because, hello, this is how the royals do. Check out Prince George‘s super cute birthday photo below. More »
Yesterday we learned that NBC has started early planning for a reboot of the ’90s fantasy series Xena: Warrior Princess, which delighted many fans of the original series … and likely frightened others. BUT, before we get all excited about this reboot of Xena, I think it would behoove us to take a step back and not get too excited just yet. Lucy Lawless posted a message on her official Twitter profile shortly after the Xena reboot news was announced to maintain that the show’s revival is “just a rumor” at this point. According to her, there is nothing to pin our hopes on … yet. Click below to read Lucy‘s tweet about the alleged Xena reboot and speculate along with me about what this might mean for a possible return of the Warrior Princess. More »
"Back in the day"
19 year old Maggie Poukkula, daughter of musician Tony Poukkula, stumbled upon photos that were taken during Nirvana‘s first live performance ever back in 1987 and graciously decided to share the wealth with the rest of the world via social media. Found pressed between the pages of a Kurt Cobain biography owned by her father, the photos feature the members of Nirvana playing their first gig ever with Tony Poukkula. The photos, which you can see below, have never been seen before and mark the first time ever that the members of Nirvana played a show in public … so basically, the photos are historical in nature. They wouldn't let her perform so ...
Back in 2013, Miley Cyrus caused a bit of a pop culture ruckus with her racy performance at the MTV Video Music Awards with Robin Thicke. This year, she will be hosting the entire VMAs show. Miley confirmed the news that she has been tapped to host the VMAs this year with a photo she posted on on her official Twitter profile making the announcement. “MTV won’t let me perform” she joked before adding “So I’m hosting this year’s VMAs“. Click below to see Miley‘s Twitter announcement about her hosting the VMAs this year and save the date, MTV will air the 2015 installment of the Video Music Awards on August 30. More »
Pleased to meet you
Just about a week ago, we got our first official look at the new cast of Ghostbusters in costume, courtesy of director Paul Feig. Today we learn the names of the characters played by Kirsten Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones and Melissa McCarthy … again, courtesy of Feig. Additionally, we learn officially that original Ghostbusters star Dan Aykroyd will be appearing in this new Ghostbusters remake, altho he wasn’t probably supposed to spill those beans just yet. Dan recently posted on his official Twitter profile the news that he was on the Ghostbusters set filming a scene … and then removed that tweet from his timeline. Click below to learn the names of the new group of Ghostbusters and read the tweets that Aykroyd posted about the movie that he did not delete from his account. More »
Rock Opera, actually
Now that Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails has got himself a Grammy Award and an Oscar it looks like he is making a serious play for attaining EGOT status (ie. an artist who has won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award). It has been revealed that Reznor has teamed up with author Chuck Palaniuk for a rock opera / musical theater adaptation of Fight Club. It seems that news of this forthcoming project hasn’t been officially released yet but Palaniuk just can’t help but share info about the project … and then quickly delete it from social media. Should this rock opera incarnation of Fight Club be a success, it could nab Reznor a Tony Award … which would mean he would only need to win an Emmy Award to achieve EGOT status … which would be very possible should his Year Zero TV project ever come to fruition.
