The TV Guide
Last night Sarah, Mark, Adriana and I got all dolled up in our Detroit Tigers gear and made our way down to Anaheim, CA to root for the Tigers against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Before we got down to the business of baseball, we grabbed a fun dinner in Downtown Disney beforehand. We just couldn’t fit in a visit to Disneyland during Sarah and Mark’s visit (which is why I missed running into Britney Spears at Disneyland yesterday) so I figured dinner in Downtown Disney was a nice consolation prize. We had a blast at the game, even if we didn’t win (boo). Click below to see some of our fun photos. More »

That Ish Cray Of-The-Day
Hilarious news to wake up to this morning. Apparently. Some people reeeealllly aren’t feeling today’s biggest pop stars, and they’ve decided to make that crystal clear to the rest of the world. The minor league baseball team Charleston Riverdogs hosted a very special event the other day, in which they lit’rally burned Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber music to the ground. I don’t know about you, but I find this to be incredibly funny. Click inside for more!
These photos are everything.
Yesterday we celebrated the World Cup Final with a gallery of hottie McFutbol hotties put together by PITNBr Iris and myself. I thought I was having all of the fun “editing” that piece, but Rihanna was actually having more fun than anybody else in life. Ever. Please enjoy her gallery of amazing photos from the World Cup (she hung out with members of the German team and Adriana Lima). And yes, of course, she got excited and flashed the crowd at a certain point. RiRi would also like us to know that she got up close and personal with a very important member of Germany’s team: I touched the cup, held the cup, kissed the cup, took a selfie wit the cup!!! I meeeaan…… what is YO bucket list looking like bruh?
PITNBr Iris Totally Did This
Listen, this gallery does not discriminate against winners or losers in the 2014 World Cup. Mainly because I’m not entirely sure of who the winners or losers are… although I do know that something truly horrifying happened to Brazil. At any rate, today is the last day, and it’s going down betwixt Germany and Argentina. Again, this information is irrelevant as this gallery is entirely focused on PITNBr Iris‘ preference in soccer players (mostly Brazilian, apparently). Oh, and I had to include some shots of Cristiano Ronaldo because he has an incredible underwear line… and the bulge to go with.
#PraiseYeezus and peep the gallery for more!
The name Redskins is “disparaging to Native Americans”
A few weeks ago Shannon posted excerpts from a powerful essay about the racist offensiveness of the The Washington Redskins‘ football team name and today we learn that the US Patents and Trademark Office agrees … because they have just stripped the team of the trademark to the name “Washington Redskins” because, they have determined, the name is “disparaging to Native Americans”. Um, duh. It has always been so, IMHO, but — at last — a major ruling on the name has been handed down. Now that the Redskins have lost their trademark, it is all but certain that the football team will have to come up with another, less racistly offensive name. More »
The entire 2014 Rams Rookie Class got signed!
Last month we learned that football player Michael Sam became the first openly gay player in the NFL when he was drafted to play for the St. Louis Rams. Since that time, Sam has been training with the Rams in the hopes of signing on officially to play for the Rams when the new football season begins later this year. Today we learn, happily, that Michael and the rest of the rookie class that was drafted by the Rams last month have all signed contracts to play for the team. It’s officially official … Michael Sam is an NFLer now! More »
'We Are One'
Back in April we got our first listen of Pitbull‘s official 2014 FIFA World Cup song We Are One (Featuring Jennifer Lopez and Claudia Leitte) and yesterday, the trio performed the song together LIVE in Brazil to kick off the World Cup soccer tournament. There was a bit of confusion over whether or not J. Lo was going to make her way to Brazil for the performance but she made it. There was also fear that Pitbull might castrate himself with his super-tight white pants … but it would appear that the performance went off without a hitch. Click the embed above to watch Pitbull, J. Lo and Claudia kick off the 2014 World Cup in fine fashion.
“Make your play, make it count today”
Kelly Rowland has a hot new track out today titled The Game which is featured on a new compilation album sponsored by Pepsi Cola. Pepsi Beats of the Beautiful Game is a soccer-themed album that features songs by Janelle Monaé, Rita Ora, Santigold, Timbaland and others. As I understand it, this album is also being released as a visuals album when it comes out on June 10. Click below to get your first listen of Kelly‘s song The Game. I’ve already listened to the song a few times and I really like it, I think you will like it, too. More »
In honor of the DVD release of RoboCop today and the planned unveiling of the RoboCop statue, today has been declared RoboCop Day in the city of Detroit, MI. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, the RoboCop statue unveiling will not be taking place today … but RoboCop himself will be present at Comerica Park to help Detroiters celebrate RoboCop Day during tonight’s Detroit Tigers baseball game. "The Washington Redskins is a racist moniker from an ugly part of America’s history."
We’ve had great discussions on PITNB about the language we use to describe ourselves and others— what is offensive versus what is empowering. When is it racist, when is it racial, and when is it just plain stupid? These conversations are reflections of ongoing discussions in celebrity, pop culture, and now even sports. For years people have been trying to get the owner of The Washington Redskins to change the team’s name to something that isn’t, well, a racial slur. And, for just as many years, people have been defending the name. Is this about the love of football and tradition? Or is this about white privilege in 2014? Click inside to read a powerful work by Asante Jones— an actor, a ginormous sports fan, and maybe (definitely) my cousin.
