“Make your play, make it count today”
Kelly Rowland has a hot new track out today titled The Game which is featured on a new compilation album sponsored by Pepsi Cola. Pepsi Beats of the Beautiful Game is a soccer-themed album that features songs by Janelle Monaé, Rita Ora, Santigold, Timbaland and others. As I understand it, this album is also being released as a visuals album when it comes out on June 10. Click below to get your first listen of Kelly‘s song The Game. I’ve already listened to the song a few times and I really like it, I think you will like it, too. More »
In honor of the DVD release of RoboCop today and the planned unveiling of the RoboCop statue, today has been declared RoboCop Day in the city of Detroit, MI. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, the RoboCop statue unveiling will not be taking place today … but RoboCop himself will be present at Comerica Park to help Detroiters celebrate RoboCop Day during tonight’s Detroit Tigers baseball game. "The Washington Redskins is a racist moniker from an ugly part of America’s history."
We’ve had great discussions on PITNB about the language we use to describe ourselves and others— what is offensive versus what is empowering. When is it racist, when is it racial, and when is it just plain stupid? These conversations are reflections of ongoing discussions in celebrity, pop culture, and now even sports. For years people have been trying to get the owner of The Washington Redskins to change the team’s name to something that isn’t, well, a racial slur. And, for just as many years, people have been defending the name. Is this about the love of football and tradition? Or is this about white privilege in 2014? Click inside to read a powerful work by Asante Jones— an actor, a ginormous sports fan, and maybe (definitely) my cousin.

So … 50 Cent was invited by the NY Mets to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at Citi Field in NYC last night ahead of their game against the Pittsburgh Pirates and he proceeded to throw the ABSOLUTELY WORST FIRST PITCH IN THE RECORDED AND UNRECORDED HISTORY OF BASEBALL. I mean, Fitty‘s pitch was so bad that it will likely go down in recorded human history as the worst thing to ever happen … EVER. LOL. Click the video above to see this epically horrrrrrrrible first pitch thrown by 50 Cent and do your best not to fall out of your chair with laughter ;)
In an effort to save a bit of face, Fitty commented on his horrid first pitch on his official Instagram profile, see what he had to say below. More »
Wife Shelly Sterling is now in control of the team
Here we go ...
Last month the NBA issued a lifetime ban and a $2.5 million dollar fine against LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling in the wake of audio recordings of racist comments he made to ex-girlfriend V. Stiviano. In spite of the horrid apology he made on TV, the NBA has moved forward today with the formal plan to strip Sterling and his wife of their ownership of the LA Clippers. Sterling has vowed to fight the NBA so from here on out — it’s war. More »
"Am I entitled to one mistake? ... I’ll never do it again.”
Weeks after he was punished with a LIFETIME BAN from the NBA and a $2.5 million dollar fine, LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling gave an interview to Anderson Cooper on his show Anderson Cooper 360° in order to formally apologize to the public (and the NBA) for his actions. Throughout the interview, Sterling proclaimed over and over again that he is not a racist. The full interview will air on CNN tonight but portions of the interview have been released. You can watch 5 minutes of Anderson‘s interview with Sterling above. Personally, it sounds to me that Sterling has finally come to the realization that the NBA is serious about forcing him to sell the LA Clippers and this is an attempt to try and sway that decision … in some way. While Sterling appears to apologize for his “mistake”, he also lays a lot of blame at the feet of V. Stiviano, the woman who recorded him making those racist remarks and he even publicly attacks Magic Johnson (the person inadvertently drawn into this controversy by appearing in that photo with Stiviano that started this whole mess). I’m not impressed with Sterling‘s apology, to be honest. I can’t blame him for doing whatever he can to hang on to his basketball team ownership but as the president of the NBA made clear, racist people like Donald Sterling have no place in the NBA.
Sam is now the FIRST openly gay player in the NFL
Back in February, University of Missouri football player Michael Sam came out publicly as gay a full 3 months before the NFL Draft was to take place this weekend. Just a short time ago, Sam was selected by the St. Louis Rams to play professional football for their team … making Michael Sam the first openly gay player in the National Football League. In celebration of his draft pick, Michael did what any other professional athlete would do as soon as he heard the good news … he was first overcome by raw emotion and then happily kissed his partner live on ESPN. Click the video above to see the emotional moment when Sam got the good news and see the sweet kiss he shared with his boyfriend Vito Cammisano. Then, click below to see another cute video of Michael and Vito celebrating today’s very happy news. More »
