This Is How We Do ...?
Kid Rock has teamed up with the NFL and Pepsi to create an anthem for the Detroit Lions and right here, right now we get to hear the song IN FULL. Now, before y’all get too excited … I have to confess … as much as I LOVE Detroit and I LOVE Kid Rock for his constant support of the city we both love … I really don’t love this new song (and I’m not alone). In Detroit attempts to tell the world “how things are done” in Detroit … and for the most part, the song is a great attempt but … well, why don’t you take a listen and see what you think. More »

Lance Maintains His Innocence
This is kind of a big deal. Wait, no. It is a big deal. Seven-time Tour de France winning cyclist Lance Armstrong has officially stopped fighting the condemning charges that he used performance-enhancing drugs from 1999-2005. The USADA (U.S. Anti-Doping Agency) says this is as good as any admission of guilt and they plan to ban Armstrong for life and strip him of his unprecedented seven titles. However, Armstrong maintains that he is innocent, but has had enough of the fighting. He also believes that the USADA cannot actually take his titles away from him. Either way, it’s a pretty sad day for sports-lovers. Get the deets inside.

A few weeks ago I saw this trailer for Hermano and it somehow slipped away from me. Today I re-discovered it and got excited all over again. Hermano (or Brother) comes from Venezuelan director Marcel Rasquin and it’s a foreign language sports drama that received major hype and critical acclaim when it was first released back in 2010. It’s finally coming to US theatres this Friday and I cannot wait to see it! It’s got the good brother/bad brother plot that we saw in films like City Of God and Slumdog Millionaire (and that crazy good 2009 drama Brothers, with Jake Gyllenhaal and Natalie Portman). The two young men in this movie have been raised as brothers and ‘struggle to become professional soccer players amidst slum life and tragedy.’
Any film that reminds me of City Of God in the slightest, is a must-see, so I’m definitely looking forward to August 24. Anybody else into it?

Spice Up Your Life!
Don’t laugh at me. But. I kinda got chills when I first started watching the video Trent posted of the Spice Girls closing out the Olympics. I guess… I really… missed the Spice Girls! LMAO. Whoa. That was intense. Peep the gallery to relive and re-lurve the reunion. Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell also participated in the Closing Ceremony, and they were looking hella fierce as well. Checkie out!

Ochocinco Is Behind Bars
Oh drama. Does anybody remember that episode of Basketball Wives when Evelyn Lozada told her football-playing fiancée that she understood ‘the game’ and knew she wouldn’t be the only woman he’d be with (sexually), but all she asked was that he tell her about it, and use condoms (true story)? And do you remember her saying that if he did those things and ‘kept it real’ with her, she couldn’t do anything but respect him for that (as in for sleeping with other women)? Well I remember that episode. And I remember thinking, why is she lying to him????? If she ever gets that call or finds out he was with someone else she is going to kill him! Or at least try! If you’ve watched the show you saw how bad it got (and by ‘it’ I mainly mean her); Evelyn was literally the reason people started signing petitions against the show, myself included. I begin this story with this info because the fight they had, which landed Evelyn in the hospital and Chad in jail, allegedly began with Evelyn finding a receipt for condoms in Chad‘s maserati. Hmmm… one can’t help but wonder how this will play out on their reality show, which airs on Vh1 in a few weeks. Deets inside. UPDATE: We have court documents, my friends.
... and Ping-Pong, Apparently
As the Olympic Games continue in London, Prince Harry has taken a bit of a break from being merely a spectator of the XXX Olympiad in order to engage in a bit of healthy competition of his own. Harry paid a visit to the WOMAD (World of Music Arts & Dance) Festival in Wiltshire to celebrate its 30th anniversary and he decided to get in on the action. Donning an Angry Birds hat (random, I know) he took on an opponent in ping-pong. Yeah, it was awesome. More »
DOUGLAS is an anagram for USA GOLD
Earlier this week I congratulated US Swimmer Michael Phelps for becoming the most decorated Olympian of all time at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Today, it is my great pleasure to give some MAJOR congratulatory LURVE to US Gymnast Gabrielle Gabby Douglas because she won the Gold Medal in the Women’s All-Around Event in London yesterday. Not only is Gabby the fourth US gymnast to win the Gold in the Women’s Gymnastics All-Around (the third in consecutive Olympics) but she is also the first African-American to win Gold in the event. Gabby did the US very, very proud yesterday! Click below to see some photos from her big day, read some deets and see what Beyoncé has to say about Gabby‘s Gold Medal win. More »
19 Medals and Counting
Welp, he did it! After he set the record at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games by becoming the Olympic Athlete to win the most Gold Medals, US Swimmer Michael Phelps set a new Olympic record at the London 2012 Olympic Games last night. Phelps won his 19th medal when the US mens’ team won the Gold Medal in the 4x200m freestyle relay (earlier in the day, Phelps won his 18th medal by taking the Silver Medal in the 200-metre butterfly race) and became the Most Decorated Olympic Athlete of All Time! AND … he’s not finished yet! Phelps has more chances to win more medals as the swimming events continue today. Click below to see Phelpsie posing happily with his 19th medal last night. More »
And Apparently, KILLED
As many of you know I recently became somewhat obsessed (in a completely healthy way) with Emeli Sandé. The Scottish songstress won my heart with her smash single Next To Me, and I’ve been listening to all of her many other amazing songs, as recommended by some of our faithful PITNBrs, who also go pretty hard for Emeli. Which is why I was thuh-rilled (sound it ouuut) to hear that she opened the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Somehow, that news just made perfect sense to me. Her voice is all things victory and glory and human spirit and strength so yeah. Danny Boyle is the mastermind behind the Olympic Games ceremony– which I’m watching as I type and yes– he’s a mastermind (we also knew this from his films, Slumdog Millionaire and Trainspotting). He was so right to involve Emeli in this extravaganza of UK pride. Deets and pics inside!
Crime & Punishment
When the Jerry Sandusky guilty verdict was reached back in June the story was far from over. Once evidence was brought forth proving the involvement of other top Penn State officials (like Joe Paterno) further actions were taken. Yesterday, the now infamous Joe Paterno statue was taken down from its place outside the university stadium, while students and onlookers chanted “We Are Penn State!” Today we learn that the NCAA has announced sanctions against the university’s once-famed football program, including a massive $60 million fine, all of which will help fund child sex abuse awareness programs. More details inside.
