Running On Fumes

The TV Guide

My Sunday was really hectic but productive. Even tho I really did not have time to run a race, I decided that I had to run my scheduled race yesterday so that I can remind my body that it has a lot of running to do very soon. With a 5K, 10K and half marathon in two weeks, I really couldn’t afford to skip on a race opportunity. After I completed my race, I returned home to resume packing/purging — only to find my air conditioner stopped blowing cold air! LOL. I managed to get a good chunk of work done AND managed to make some money selling CDs and DVDs at Amoeba Music. I rounded out my day with a quick hang with Tamar and managed to get to bed fairly early. More »

My Only Wish (This Year)

The TV Guide

So … today’s my birthday and even tho I never take a day off from blogging … I’m taking today off from blogging. BUT, even tho I’m doing my usual day’s worth of work today, I can’t let the day go by without posting something … so here goes. This November, I will be running my 10th and likely final marathon in NYC and in the hopes of going out with a bang, I am raising funds for an amazing NYC organization called Team For Kids. Because I have been blessed beyond belief personally, I am hoping that YOU will help me share some of the wealth with an organization that helps the kids of NYC. I’ve asked all of my family and friends to NOT spend a single penny on me for my birthday (or otherwise) this year in the hopes that they will use the money they might otherwise spend on gifts, cards, balloons, drinks, etc. for a donation for Team For Kids. I’m also asking you guys to do the same :D More »

I Conquered Everest!

The TV Guide

Yesterday and night were really superfun for me as I was able to hang out with my friend Joel by day and then run the Expedition Everest Challenge by rainy night. Yesterday morning, Joel and I went to see The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (the second time for me) at an AMC theater that offers dine-in service while you watch the movie. Full menu, booze, a personal waitperson … all from the comfort of your cushy, leather chair. AMAZING! Last night, I made my way to Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park to run the 2014 edition of the Expedition Everest Challenge which is made up of a 5K race, an obstacle course and a scavenger hunt in the park. Altho it rained for a bit, the rain did stop and a really fun night was had in the park with all the other runners. I had a blast!! More »

26.2 HOT Miles From The Stadium To The Sea

The TV Guide

So I had a very long day today … how about you? While many folks spent their Sundays lazing about in the gorgeous weather here in LA today, me and about 25,9999 other folks decided today would be a great day to run 26.2 miles from Dodger Stadium near downtown LA all the way to the pacific ocean in Santa Monica … “for fun”. Hahaha. I know I’m making it sound like it was pain but really, it was a great experience … mostly. Today’s LA Marathon was my 9th overall in a little over a year from my first marathon at the end of 2012 and it was one of the toughest races I’ve endured yet. The temps got really hot by mid-morning and I’m afraid I didn’t really prepare properly in the days leading up to today’s run but with a little help from my friends, a lot of LURVE from many of YOU guys and the stubborn will to keep putting one foot in front of the other, I managed to successfully complete the 2014 LA Marathon. Disney Introduces The Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon At Disneyland

The Inaugural Event Takes Place in November

Disney announced today that they will be hosting a new running event at Disneyland starting this Fall that will be themed around The Avengers which, I’m sure you can imagine, is AMAZING news for a geeky runner like myself. As you may know, I started training in March of 2012 so that I could run my very first half marathon at Disneyland that September. Since then, I’ve managed to keep on running and have completed to date 8 full marathons, 13 half marathons and quite a few 10K and 5K races (my 9th marathon will be the LA Marathon in 2 weeks). Among the races I’ve completed are quite a few Disney races including the Disneyland Half Marathon (twice), the Disneyland 10K, the Walt Disney World Marathon (twice), the WDW Half Marathon (twice), the WDW 10K, the WDW 5K and the WDW Tower of Terror 10 Miler (and I’m running the WDW Expedition Everest 5K in May) … SO OF COURSE I’m going to run this new Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon as well :D Woot!! A Return To Surf City

The TV Guide

Earlier this morning I made my way down to Huntington Beach, CA to run my second Surf City Half Marathon along the coast of the Pacific Ocean. I loved the course so much last year that I knew I wanted to run it again this year. Today’s race was my first bit of running since my crazy weekend of 4 races at Walt Disney World last month but I had forgotten about how painful that experience was and found myself excited for today’s run. The temps were very chilly this morning … in the mid 40s (with wind) so I was not a happy camper until the race started (and my body was able to warm up). I ran the race in a pretty good time and I got to meet an amazing Pink is the new Blog reader so … it’s been a good day, so far :) More »

Time To Freshen Up

The TV Guide

With the upcoming Grammy Awards on my mind, I posted yesterday afternoon a message on Twitter and Facebook asking folks to give me suggestions on how to freshen up my running playlist as I look forward toward the coming months of running and I got a lot of really great suggestions. I played some of those suggestions as I tackled, at long last, the mountain of laundry that had piled up on my in the past few weeks. As you may know, I recently returned from a nice holiday in Japan and then immediately ran a half marathon before I packed up my bags and flew to Florida to take on 4 more running races … leaving me with a lot of stinky, dirty clothes to take care of. Thankfully, I was able to get most of it done which means I now have lots of fresh-smelling and very clean clothes to dirty up again when my next race comes around. More »

Race 3 Of 4: The Walt Disney World Marathon, 48.6 Miles Over 4 Days

The TV Guide

Yesterday was a very long, very tough day for me so I’m very thankful that our girl Shannon was able to hold down the fort while I tortured myself running the 2014 Walt Disney World Marathon. As you are probably very well aware, I spent the last half week running a 5K, a 10K, a half marathon and yesterday’s full marathon at Walt Disney World as part of the inaugural Dopey Challenge. All told, I ran 48.6 miles over the 4 day excursion and I managed to do so without dying. The experience was challenging and I’m very glad that I did it but I sincerely doubt I’ll ever do something like this again. That said, despite all of the pain and very hard work, I did have the greatest time ever this past long weekend. Because the marathon was the longest of the 4 races (and longer than the previous 3 combined), there was a lot of opportunity for fun photo ops … and I took advantage of every one :) More »
