26.2 HOT Miles From The Stadium To The Sea

The TV Guide

So I had a very long day today … how about you? While many folks spent their Sundays lazing about in the gorgeous weather here in LA today, me and about 25,9999 other folks decided today would be a great day to run 26.2 miles from Dodger Stadium near downtown LA all the way to the pacific ocean in Santa Monica … “for fun”. Hahaha. I know I’m making it sound like it was pain but really, it was a great experience … mostly. Today’s LA Marathon was my 9th overall in a little over a year from my first marathon at the end of 2012 and it was one of the toughest races I’ve endured yet. The temps got really hot by mid-morning and I’m afraid I didn’t really prepare properly in the days leading up to today’s run but with a little help from my friends, a lot of LURVE from many of YOU guys and the stubborn will to keep putting one foot in front of the other, I managed to successfully complete the 2014 LA Marathon. Disney Introduces The Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon At Disneyland

The Inaugural Event Takes Place in November

Disney announced today that they will be hosting a new running event at Disneyland starting this Fall that will be themed around The Avengers which, I’m sure you can imagine, is AMAZING news for a geeky runner like myself. As you may know, I started training in March of 2012 so that I could run my very first half marathon at Disneyland that September. Since then, I’ve managed to keep on running and have completed to date 8 full marathons, 13 half marathons and quite a few 10K and 5K races (my 9th marathon will be the LA Marathon in 2 weeks). Among the races I’ve completed are quite a few Disney races including the Disneyland Half Marathon (twice), the Disneyland 10K, the Walt Disney World Marathon (twice), the WDW Half Marathon (twice), the WDW 10K, the WDW 5K and the WDW Tower of Terror 10 Miler (and I’m running the WDW Expedition Everest 5K in May) … SO OF COURSE I’m going to run this new Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon as well :D Woot!! A Return To Surf City

The TV Guide

Earlier this morning I made my way down to Huntington Beach, CA to run my second Surf City Half Marathon along the coast of the Pacific Ocean. I loved the course so much last year that I knew I wanted to run it again this year. Today’s race was my first bit of running since my crazy weekend of 4 races at Walt Disney World last month but I had forgotten about how painful that experience was and found myself excited for today’s run. The temps were very chilly this morning … in the mid 40s (with wind) so I was not a happy camper until the race started (and my body was able to warm up). I ran the race in a pretty good time and I got to meet an amazing Pink is the new Blog reader so … it’s been a good day, so far :) More »

Time To Freshen Up

The TV Guide

With the upcoming Grammy Awards on my mind, I posted yesterday afternoon a message on Twitter and Facebook asking folks to give me suggestions on how to freshen up my running playlist as I look forward toward the coming months of running and I got a lot of really great suggestions. I played some of those suggestions as I tackled, at long last, the mountain of laundry that had piled up on my in the past few weeks. As you may know, I recently returned from a nice holiday in Japan and then immediately ran a half marathon before I packed up my bags and flew to Florida to take on 4 more running races … leaving me with a lot of stinky, dirty clothes to take care of. Thankfully, I was able to get most of it done which means I now have lots of fresh-smelling and very clean clothes to dirty up again when my next race comes around. More »

Race 3 Of 4: The Walt Disney World Marathon, 48.6 Miles Over 4 Days

The TV Guide

Yesterday was a very long, very tough day for me so I’m very thankful that our girl Shannon was able to hold down the fort while I tortured myself running the 2014 Walt Disney World Marathon. As you are probably very well aware, I spent the last half week running a 5K, a 10K, a half marathon and yesterday’s full marathon at Walt Disney World as part of the inaugural Dopey Challenge. All told, I ran 48.6 miles over the 4 day excursion and I managed to do so without dying. The experience was challenging and I’m very glad that I did it but I sincerely doubt I’ll ever do something like this again. That said, despite all of the pain and very hard work, I did have the greatest time ever this past long weekend. Because the marathon was the longest of the 4 races (and longer than the previous 3 combined), there was a lot of opportunity for fun photo ops … and I took advantage of every one :) More »

Race 3 Of 4: The Walt Disney World Half Marathon

The TV Guide

Welp, I’ve run 3 of my 4 races this weekend and while I’m happy about the accomplishment, I’m trying DESPERATELY not to think about the fact that tomorrow’s 4th and final race will be LONGER than the 3 races I’ve run thus far. OY! But, we’re not talking about that right now … right now we’re talking about how I just ran the 2014 Walt Disney World Half Marathon. Last night, I grabbed dinner with my friend Joel, his wife Stephanie and their son Court to carbo load for today’s race … then I was up at 3AM again to hit the streets of Walt Disney World to run another 13.1 miles. I met a PITNB reader from Detroit and got medaled by my dear friend Aurora … plus I got to take photos with a bunch of really great Disney characters so … all in all, it’s been a pretty sweet day thus far. Race 2 Of 4: The Inaugural Walt Disney World 10K

The TV Guide

Early this morning I got up, got out and ran the first ever Walt Disney World 10K race which was race 2 of the 4 races I’m running for the Dopey Challenge here at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL this weekend. Yesterday, I grabbed food with a couple of good friends after I ran my last race and rested up as much as possible for my run today. Altho I’m half done running my individual races, I’m nowhere NEAR halfway done with all the miles I’ll have to run cumulatively. OY! Still, I’m having fun here at WDW so, really, that’s all that matters :D More »

Race 1 Of 4: The Disney Family Fun Run 5K

The TV Guide

Early this morning I began the task that brought me to Orlando, FL this weekend … I ran the first of four races as part of The Dopey Challenge here at Walt Disney World. As I mentioned before, I will be running four races on sequential days this weekend and today I ran the first of those races. Today’s race was the shortest and, therefore, the easiest of the races. Click below to see some photos that I snapped while running the Disney Family Fun Run 5K. More »

The Dopey Challenge Awaits

The TV Guide

Back in April of last year I decided that it would be a BRILLIANT idea to sign up for the Inaugural Dopey Challenge series of races at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL. Because I successfully ran the Goofy Race and a Half Challenge last year here at WDW made up of sequential half marathon and marathon runs I figured I’d be up for running sequential 5K, 10K, half and full marathons this year. Well, I’ve made my way back to Orlando ahead of the Dopey Challenge weekend. I’m coming to you from the East Coast right now on the only day of my trip where I won’t be running a race :) More »

The First Race Of 2014

The TV Guide

After spending most of the day lounging around the house (and still NOT doing my mounds of laundry), I had to rally and get out of the house last night because I had a freaking half marathon race to run. OY. For the first time, I almost bailed on a race altogether because I just didn’t feel up to running it. Adriana signed up to run the 5K portion of the New Year’s Race last night and honestly, if she hadn’t signed up I probably would’ve skipped the race. But, I didn’t want her to run by herself so I got suited up and made my way downtown to meet up with her. I’m glad I did run because I actually felt great for the entire run. I hadn’t run at all since Honolulu early last month so I was worried but thankfully, it turns out that I had no cause for worry at all. More »
