Moz Disco

The TV Guide

After my day excursion in Disneyland Friday and Saturday, I decided to kick it at home yesterday for Sunday Funday. I really felt a bit wrecked so it was nice to do nothing but lounge all day. I did end up going out last night for a bit of dancing with my friend Ashley at the Morrissey/The Smiths night at the Part Time Punks party at the Echoplex. Ashley and I have hung out at this Moz danceparty before so I knew we would have fun … and we did. Rest all day, dance all night … it was pretty perfect. More »

My First Best Friend

The TV Guide

First and foremost, I’d like to send out a HUGE Happy Mother’s Day to my mom back home in Detroit who has never, every turned on a computer in her life so she will never see this post. Nor does my mother have a cell phone, so she’ll never see my Mother’s Day shout outs on social media … but I’d still like to send her love into the Interwebs all the same. Secondly, I’d like to send JUST AS HUGE Mother’s Day lurve to all the moms out there celebrating their special day today. I know that everyday is Mother’s Day but it’s nice that today has been set aside especially to fête all the worthy moms out there. More »

Dad’s Day

The TV Guide

Yesterday was my last day in Detroit but, because it was my dad’s birthday, it was the whole reason I flew back to Michigan in the first place. Because my parent’s are getting more advanced in age, I am trying to be home for their birthdays … even tho my dad’s birthday is always in the dead of Michigan winter. They can’t really fly out to see me in sunny LA so I’m happy to make the trip back home. My best friends Sarah and Mark joined in the birthday dinner we had for my dad and a great time was had by all. I did get to spend a bit of time with my friends before I had to make my way back to the airport and back home to LA. More »

Play All Day, Dance All Night

The TV Guide

This week’s Sunday Funday was one for the ages. After I spent a full, fun day hanging out with my friends at Disneyland (as per usual when Sunday rolls around), I made my way to Echo Park to meet up with my friend Ashley to partake in the Part Time Punks danceparty where we danced the night away to the music of The Smiths and Morrissey. At Disney, I got to snap a photo with Santa Claus. At the Echoplex, I got to snap a photo with a Moz cutout. I’d say my day was pretty epic. More »

Polaroid Photographer Jeremy Kost Is Hosting A Book Signing In LA

'Fractured'

I have very exciting news to share with you guys today. My very good friend Jeremy Kost is hosting a book signing of his new photography book Fractured at Bookmarc in West Hollywood, CA on Friday and you MUST come out and meet him (folks in NYC can attend Jeremy‘s book signing at Bookmarc at 400 Bleecker St. on October 21). I’ve known Jeremy for years but I’ve been a fan of his Polaroid photography for much longer. He is truly one of my favorite photographic artists and I’m so excited for the release of his new book Fractured. Large scale prints of some of Jeremy‘s images are currently on display at the CALVIN KLEIN COLLECTION in NYC (654 Madison Avenue) until October 27 where a very limited edition of Fractured is being sold. The large scale prints on display at the Calvin Klein Collection are up for auction HERE to partially benefit ACRIA, in conjunction with Paddle 8, in their fight to help those living with HIV/AIDS. Yes, my friend is amazing. Jeremy is graciously sharing the photos featured in the gallery presented here to give you a taste of his work. If you like what you see, you can come out and buy a copy of Fractured and meet Jeremy Kost at his book signing this Friday:

The images shared here are available in the artist’s edition of Fractured which comes with an actual Polaroid photo of your choice (details HERE). Jeremy gave me a large size Polaroid print as a housewarming gift when I moved to LA all those years ago and it has hung in my various homes ever since. He is a very talented photographer and I hope you can come out and meet the man in person. Hopefully I’ll see you at the book signing on Friday!

Seattle Police Release Even More Photos From The Kurt Cobain Death Scene

A sad portrait of Kurt's final days

Last week, the Seattle Police Department revealed that they found a roll of undeveloped film from the 1994 Kurt Cobain death scene. A day or so later, they released a couple photos from that role of film. Today we get to see a bunch more photos from the death scene, including Polaroid photos not included in the newfound undeveloped roll of film, in a new batch of previously unseen photos from the death scene. These new photos feature the suicide note that Kurt left with a pen shoved through it, which really only adds to the sad scene. It’s still hard to believe that Cobain has been gone for 20 years now. Hopefully the release of these photos will finally put that day back in 1994 to final rest.

Sunday With Morrissey

The TV Guide

Last night I was able to attend the Part Time Punkx danceparty at the Echoplex that featured a night of music by The Smiths and Morrissey (DJed by the incomparable Jose Maldonado, frontman of the coverband Sweet and Tender Hooligans and host of Breakfast with The Smiths: The World of Morrissey weekly radio show), which is a danceparty that I have attended many times in the past (most recently last September). Because these parties happen only a few times a year (maybe every 3 or 4 months?), I make every effort to get my buns out there so I can boogie down to the wonderfully maudlin sounds of The Smiths and Morrissey. Earlier in the day, tho, I was able to use a gift certificate I had to get a little bit of pampering done at a Burke Williams spa so all in all, I’m happy to say that my Sunday was a total funday. Unhappy Birthday, Morrissey

The TV Guide

In celebration of Morrissey‘s birthday yesterday the LA-based Smiths/Morrissey tribute band Sweet and Tender Hooligans performed in concert last night at The Fonda Theater in celebration. Each year, no matter what day of the week May 22 falls on, the Hooligans perform a birthday show where a portion of the proceeds of ticket sales are donated to a local animal shelter (as a gift to animal activist Morrissey). I’m a pretty fond of Sweet and Tender Hooligans so I made my way out to the show last night … and had a blast! More »
