Every once in a while, I have a week where I just have to allow myself to love Beyoncé. I step away from the hateration, and I just let myself love her. After the MTV VMAs, that’s what I had to do. I retweeted lit’rally every Blue Ivy meme available to me, and I just accepted the Carters for the friggen awesome, adorable family that they were on stage that night. For the first time ever, I actually, legit identified with Beyoncé. Like, OMG. In a real way. Watching her cry because her daughter is just so the truth, made her look more human to me than she ever has before. So yeah, she wins this week. And so do you PITNBrs! The MTV VMAs are about an hour away, and I’m more excited than even I can understand. Maybe it was that video of Iggy Azalea falling, or that snake that bit Nicki Minaj‘s backup dancer… LMAO… oh no, that’s so not funny. But for some reason, I think tonight’s going to be fun. This could also be the large bottle of pink moscato talking… because it’s been that kind of a week. Anyway, in spite of the madness that has been trying to get actual work done in a house with 3 little boys, it’s been fun and you guys have kept me laughing every step of the way. Listen folks, I’m going to keep it almost all of the way real right now. Today’s YATNB discussion is all about ME, ME, ME and some stuff that I am going through, lol! I just read an article that is basically all about my life, titled Yes, men are better writers. I am going to tattoo the author’s name on my body because OMFG, she nailed it in so many uncomfortable ways. Her bottom line being, simply, that men have/give themselves more time to be creative—even when they have families—and women do not, so there it is. To be a good writer, you need time to write (and sleep, and eat, and think) and as a mother of three I officially am tapped out of all that ish (actually, I’m eating fine… whatever). And I’m just now (sort of) coming to terms with the fact that I simply cannot do all of these things I thought I could a year ago, and it’s time to adjust accordingly. One thing the author Helen Addison-Smith makes clear is that, technically, all these issues are resolved with a nanny. If you have enough money to pay someone to take good care of your child, you’re kind of all set (trouble is, writing rarely = enough money to pay someone to take good care of your child/ren, LOL). It got me thinking about celebrity moms like Megan Fox, Beyoncé, Gwen Stefani, Gwyneth Paltrow, and how much I’m pissed at all of them right now… kidding! Sort of! So click inside for more!
The TV Guide
My Friday in the new homestead was a pretty good one. Altho I’m still chin deep in boxes left to unpack, I managed to get a few more of the boxes unpacked, got my Direct TV installed and managed to situate (more or less) my living room area. I woke up late yesterday morning because I turned off my alarm so I did my best to make it up by working late. I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to drive down to Irvine, CA to see Nine Inch Nails in concert but I managed to rally and make the trek. I’m so glad that I did. Even tho the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater is a massive venue, I was able to walk right in and randomly stumble upon my group of friends. The show was amazing, just what I needed last night. More »

Earlier today I was challenged by PITNB reader Jodie Fedder to take the #IceBucketChallenge in an effort to raise awareness and MONEY for the ALS Association. To be honest, with all of my free time focused on my move this week, I haven’t really been paying too much attention to the influx of Ice Bucket Challenge videos that have been making the rounds … but this morning, I got challenged by Jodie and then stumbled upon Britney Spears‘s video and, well, I have accepted the challenge. In turn, I nominate PITNB writer Shannon Houston, my BFF Darion Lowenstein and my homies in the DiVide Social Club — Milo Ventimiglia, Russ Cundiff and Dino De Milio to take the challenge. THIS IS MORE THAN JUST DUMPING WATER ON YOURSELF, folks … please donate if you can to the ALS Association HERE. If any of y’all have taken the challenge, please share your videos with us here on the blog in the comments below. DONATE DONATE DONATE!!!
For the past week or so, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has overtaken the Internets as celebrities, athletes, politicians, friends, family members, EVERYONE have shared personal videos of having ice water dumped on them in an effort to raise awareness AND MONEY for the ALS Association. There have been a lot of great videos making the rounds but it wasn’t until I saw Britney Spears‘s #ICEBUCKETCHALLENGE video that I felt compelled to share here on the blog. I mean … Britney‘s video is THE best. Click thru the gallery to see the AMAZING screencaptures I snagged from our dear Britney‘s video and then click below to watch the video itself — TRUST ME, you’re gonna wanna watch this one. More »

I want to start off this week’s YATNB with another question: is there a big difference between a death by suicide, or a death by drug overdose? I found this photo of Philip Seymour Hoffman and Robin Williams from the movie Patch Adams and, of course, it has a whole new meaning now. I got to thinking about both actors and how I didn’t feel any differently about Williams‘ passing than I did Hoffman‘s. That is to say, I thought that they were both struggling with things, and both were unable to get the help they needed to survive, in the end. Drug abuse is obviously different from depression, but I think the two are related in that we all find a means of dealing with our mental health issues—some of us turn to drugs, some of us take our own lives, some of us seek therapy, or bury ourselves in work, or cause ourselves physical harm, or cause others harm. There are, obviously, healthier ways to deal with the issues, but we all find some way to “deal.” I feel like mental health is at the beginning of so many of these problems, and I wonder if we need to keep creating more spaces to discuss this stuff. Another week in celebrity pop culture has gone by, and I have to admit that—while there were some laughs—things were pretty serious around these parts. None of us could have been prepared for the loss of Robin Williams, but I’m proud to be a part of a community where people spoke freely, openly, and positively about the great comedian, and where people also opened up about their own experiences with depression. And, of course, looking back at some of Wiliams’ best on-screen moments brought us some laughs. Click inside for just a few of our many awesome comments from you PITNBrs!

Earlier this week we celebrated the birth of one Jesse Williams. Jesse… is hawt. And many of us looked through that gallery many times throughout the day (and subsequent days) without shame. I mean, it’s Jesse. There’s nothing to ashamed of because when you obsess over jesse, you know you are in good company—you are in the majority. But what happens when you find yourself attracted to the wrong celebrity at the wrong damn time? Remember those pics of Kevin Federline? Some of y’all were feelin’ him! So this week, we are all going to confess to our most embarrassing celebrity crushes. And yes, I’ll start…

PITNBrs, this year I’m learning to make adjustments. You try something one way, maybe it doesn’t work out—not because it won’t ever work out, but just because you need to make some adjustments. Right now, I’m making some work-related adjustments because I’ve been getting a bit overwhelmed with a lot of new responsibilities and I feel things slipping away a bit. So. I used to post the comments of the week on Sunday nights, but Sunday nights started turning into Monday mornings, and then sometimes not at all (it’s been that kind of year for me… I’m workin’ on it), so I’m re-working my schedule a bit, and I’ll now be posting all of this awesomeness on Saturdays just to make sure that you all get the lurve you so deserve. This week, we had some really great stories that had everyone talking, so click inside for just a few of many great comments from you amazinf PITNBrs!
