'Why Did Chris Die?'
In an effort to keep the conversation about the UCSB shooting going, I want to share this Facebook post from documentary filmmaker Michael Moore. But before I do I want to share a comment from a recent review I wrote. I watched a film called Farmland and a reader suggested that the film might have been “merely propaganda” given the people behind it. People have, similarly, accused Michael Moore of using propaganda in his documentaries (even as he accuses the subjects of his films of the same). In a way, I think most films carry some sort of propaganda with them. Documentarians have their own agendas, and—sure—everything should be taken with a grain of salt. So, before someone accuses me of supporting propaganda, or a particular agenda, let me just acknowledge my own bias. I don’t understand the value of guns. I understand the value of rights, but I don’t understand the specific value we have placed on the right to bare arms. So yes, sure. This piece (like every piece I’ve ever written) reflects my own personal agenda. Click inside for more of that!
It has been a little over 2 years since the world lost the amazing Whitney Houston so in order to remind us of the late singer, Angela Bassett has teamed up with Lifetime TV to produce a new made-for-TV biopic movie about the life of Houston. Here we go ...
Last month the NBA issued a lifetime ban and a $2.5 million dollar fine against LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling in the wake of audio recordings of racist comments he made to ex-girlfriend V. Stiviano. In spite of the horrid apology he made on TV, the NBA has moved forward today with the formal plan to strip Sterling and his wife of their ownership of the LA Clippers. Sterling has vowed to fight the NBA so from here on out — it’s war. More »
A couple of days ago we learned that Morrissey finally decided to join Twitter in order to communicate directly with his fans in 140 character messages. I guess it was all too good to be true because just moments ago, Morrissey posted an official statement online that denies ownership of that new Twitter profile. Morrissey admits that the account is official and that it has been opened in his name. But he is not claiming ownership of any of the posts contained therein. A quick read of the tweets posted in his name make it clear to any Moz fan that he is not the author so … this official denial statement makes all the sense in the world. More »

The Knowles-Carter Family SPEAKS
Wow! Beyoncé Knowles, her husband Jay Z and her sister Solange Knowles have just released an official joint statement regarding the elevator assault video that was released earlier this week showing Solange physically attacking Jay on the night of the Met Ball gala last week. The usually private family never comments publicly on tabloid rumors and scandal but, for some reason, feel compelled to issue a statement regarding this particular incident. The statement makes clear that both Solange and Jay Z assume equal responsibility for the incident. Click below to read the Knowles-Carter statement in full. More »

"She remains under contract to 'Glee'”
After the week of bad news that we’ve been hearing about Naya Rivera, it’s about time we hear some good news for a change. As you may recall, we heard last week that Naya had been fired from the cast of Glee (due to an alleged “altercation” she got into with co-star Lea Michele … or the show’s producers, depending on the report) then we heard she got dropped from her record label. Her press rep issued denials about both incidents and today we learn that Fox has officially issued a statement on the Glee matter. Fox says that Naya has not been fired from the show … that she is still under contract. So, at the very least, we know she is still employed … which is a very good thing for her right now. More »

But her press rep claims overwise
Without question, April 2014 has been actress Naya Rivera‘s worst month ever. First her engagement to Big Sean came to an end, then he allegedly stole shizz from her home. Then we heard that she was fired from Glee (tho, her publicist denies the firing) and today we hear that she has been dropped from her record label Columbia Records (again, her rep denies the dunzoness). Even if these reports of her firing turn out not to be true, it still isn’t a good week for the young actress that she keeps getting plagued with these reports. Ugh. More »
