Eminem never tires of showing his love for Detroit, MI — the hometown that he and I both share. We saw his love for the Motor City most recently in the fantastic Chrysler Super Bowl commercial that was released last Sunday and we see it again today in a new report about Em‘s decision to give an interview to a 14-year old Detroit area student named Annie Reed. Annie wanted to do a feature article on Eminem for her school newspaper The Cavalier Corner, she reached out to his people … and he said yes.

There is a tradition on Broadway where major news outlets choose not to officially review shows and plays until they officially open for business. But, because producers of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark pushed back their opening night from December, to January, to February to MARCH, news outlets like The New York Times and The LA Times have broken with tradition and published their reviews. Tired of waiting, these news outlets decided to finally chime in and offer their opinions of the show … and unfortch for Turn Off the Dark, neither newspaper had any good things to say about it.

Well, thanks to a new video interview produced by The New York Times, YOU will get a taste of what it’s like to chill with TR in his inner sanctum. Times reporter Melena Ryzik was invited to chat with Reznor and Atticus Ross in their recording studio to discuss the creation of the score for The Social Network (which, you may know, is nominated for an Academy Award for Best Score this year). Last night we FINALLY got confirmation that Hold It Against Me, the first single from Britney Spears‘s new album (due out in March), will be released next week (WOOT!) and today we are hearing a lot more information about her album as a whole. The New York Post is reporting all sorts of news about which producers worked on Britney‘s new album and if the report turns out to be correct, I think we are in for one HELL of an amazing new album from our dear Britney.

Here is a great story published by The New York Times that is sure to warm even the coldest of hearts this holiday season. A couple living on West 22nd St. in the Chelsea neighborhood of NYC inexplicably began receiving letters written by children to Santa Claus. The hundreds of letters that have poured in in the past weeks inspired the couple to do everything they could to see that the letter requests were answered … on behalf of Santa Claus himself.

Things are moving along swiftly in the wedding preparations for Prince William of Wales and his longtime girlfriend an fiancée Kate Middleton now that we are moving into the Xmas season. This is the first Xmas that Wills and Kate will be celebrating as betrothed lovebirds so it is time for Kate to meet a whole bunch of Royal Family members. This week, Prince Wills, Kate and Prince Harry of Wales lunched with Queen Elizabeth II so that Kate could be introduced to a whole slew of Royal Family members … all before Harry was due to fly off to Berlin, Germany to collect an award for his charity work.

Hold on to your hats iPhone fans & AT&T Wireless haters … cuz The Wall Street Journal has got some news that might be of interest to you. According to a new report from the WSJ, Apple has allegedly worked out a deal with Verizon to begin producing CDMA iPhones for their company which are said to be scheduled for sale sometime next year … read on:

Apple Inc. plans to begin mass producing a new iPhone by the end of 2010 that would allow Verizon Wireless to sell the smartphone early next year, said people briefed by Apple. The new iPhone would be similar in design to the iPhone 4 currently sold by AT&T Inc. but would be based on an alternative wireless technology called CDMA used by Verizon, these people said. The phone, for which Qualcomm Inc. is providing a key chip, is expected to be released in the first quarter of next year, according to the same people. An Apple CDMA iPhone would spell the end of the exclusive U.S. arrangement with Apple that AT&T has had since 2007, when the original iPhone debuted. Separately, Apple is also developing a new iPhone model, said people briefed on the matter. One person familiar with the new iPhone plan said the fifth-generation iPhone will be a different form factor from those that are currently available. It was unclear how soon that version will be available to Verizon.

Naturally, neither company will go on the record for comment … and even tho these Verizon/iPhone rumors tend to pop up every other day, I think the fact that the Wall Street Journal decided to go to press with this story gives this latest rumor much more credence then other rumors. If this turns out to be true, I would bet very good money that a huge surge of disgruntled AT&T customers would make a great exodus to Verizon. To be honest, I might be among the great exodii. You will note, however, that the article makes mention of an iPhone 5 … which, I am presuming, may go to AT&T first … which would keep everyone happy. Despite AT&T‘s loss of iPhone exclusivity, I can see how Apple might appease them by offering them first dibs on new generation technology. Brilliant all around and Apple reaps all the bounty. I guess we won’t be able to count on any of this being true until we hear something official from either Apple or Verizon but … this sounds very hopeful. Stay tuned … we should be hearing something concrete very soon now that this report is out in the wild.

It’s a rumor that’s been going around Nine Inch Nails fans for years and today … we have official confirmation. Trent Reznor spoke to the LA Times this week and officially confirmed the news that he is in development of a TV series based on the 2007 Nine Inch Nails album Year Zero. In a nutshell, Year Zero is an album themed around the idea that a future America is enslaved by a government led fundamentalist theocracy and the small groups of freedom fighters rallying against the system. As I understand it, the Year Zero TV series will be set in that future America, circa 2022, and will tell that story on the small screen:

Trent Reznor says HBO and BBC America are moving forward with the development of “Year Zero,” the grim sci-fi epic that Reznor has chronicled in his music as well as in a celebrated Alternate Reality Game (ARG). “We are in pre-production with HBO and BBC America to do a miniseries,” Reznor said Monday. “It’s exciting. I probably shouldn’t say too much about it except that I understand that there’s a thousand hurdles before anything shows up in your TV listing. It’s been an interesting and very educational process and it cleared the HBO hurdle a few months ago and now we’re writing drafts back and forth. So it’s very much alive and incubating at the moment.” Reznor is working with the team of Lawrence Bender, best known for producing Quentin Tarantino films such as “Pulp Fiction,” “Inglourious Basterds” and ”Reservoir Dogs“ as well as the documentaries “An Inconvenient Truth” and “Countdown to Zero,” and Kevin Kelly Brown, who was executive producer on “Roswell.“ “BBC America was the first to show interest and came on as the studio,” Reznor explained. “Our writer is Daniel Knauf from ‘Carnivàle’ and he’s busy with pages right now and revising the overall world Bible. It’s been an interesting collaborative effort but I’ve learned that [television development] moves at a glacial pace.”

This is the effing best news ever. Year Zero is among my fave NIN albums, particularly because the thematic structure of the album is so entertaining. When the album was released, the accompanying Alternate Reality Game that existed online was almost as entertaining as the album was. I’ve always felt that the world of Year Zero would make great fodder for expansion … a TV series that is being made in conjunction with BBC America and HBO is sure to remain as true as possible to Reznor‘s original vision. I’m certain that TR and his creative partner Rob Sheridan are planning on being as involved in the process as possible … which means that we are prolly gonna get an amazing new TV series. It’s impossible to know when exactly we might expect the Year Zero series to debut but the fact that the show is now in pre-production is a very positive sign. I am quite confident that these brilliant minds will put together a series that will not only satisfy NIN fans but will satisfy sci-fi fans overall. It’s like a dream come true … and I cannot wait to hear more!
