See Rizzo in Action!
In early November we learned that Madonna‘s eldest child, Lourdes Maria, would be playing the role of Rizzo in her high school production of the musical Grease. Today we get to see photos of Lola on stage in character as Rizzo on the show’s opening night as well as photos of Madonna waiting by the backstage door after the performance was concluded. It would appear that the acting bug has been passed from mother to daughter … let’s just hope that Lola has more success in the acting world than her mother ;) Click below to see photos and read deets about last night’s performance of Grease. BUT, it will be rebooted in Las Vegas in 2015
Remember when we got all excited/worried that Julie Taymor signed on to direct a Broadway musical based on the adventures of Spider-Man but things started to go terribly wrong when players were getting injured so severely in previews that they had to quit the production and the show had to go dark for a week so that it could be revamped? Then Taymor got fired and the show re-opened and finally found box office success (and, thankfully, no more injuries)? Yeah, well, the Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark story is about to come to a close. Due to declining ticket sales, the show will close on Broadway in January. Plans are in the works to adapt the stage production for Las Vegas, where producers feel the show can find new life … but Spider-Man‘s time on the Great White Way is about to come to a final end. Disney’s Aladdin, as it is called, is already being performed in Toronto, Ontario ahead of its Broadway debut early next year and today we get to see a few photos from the show. Workshopping in 2014
Children of the 90′s, take note … for a new Broadway musical is coming out way from singer/songwriter Alanis Morissette who has decided to turn her mega successful debut American album Jagged Little Pill into a show. To be honest, there are a host of ways that an idea like this can turn out very badly but considering Alanis herself is involved in this new production, I am insanely hopeful that this Jagged Little Pill musical will turn out AMAZINGLY well! AHHHH. Read on to learn more. More »
There are worse things she could do
Back in September of 2010 we learned that Madonna‘s eldest child Lourdes Maria attended her first day of school at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts (better known to the world as the Fame school from the TV series of the 80′s) and today we learn that Lola has scored the role of Betty Rizzo in her high school production of Grease. Considering the caliber of talent at the Fame school, it says a lot that Lourdes was able to nab such a big role (tho, not a lead role) in the musical. I bet Madonna is crazy excited to see her daughter perform live on stage. More »
"The Gospel According to Britney"
Now, y’all know that I love me some Britney Spears hardcore but … news today that a new musical production that tells the tale of the life of Jesus Christ by utilizing the music of Britney Spears gives even me reason to pause. Spears is a new show, set to debut next month, that looks to dethrone the award-winning Broadway musical Jesus Christ Superstar as the King of Religious Rock Opera. Click below to see a few promo photos from the show, read the official press release and get your first taste of Spears — The Gospel According to Britney Spears. More »

Two Amazing Interviews
Tori Amos‘s much-anticipated musical production The Light Princess is well underway at The National Theater in London, England and to promote the show, she and playwright Samuel Adamson made themselves available for a couple of extremely interesting interviews both in person and on the radio. First, as you can see in the video embedded above, Tori and Samuel participated in an in-person interview on the National Theater stage before a performance of The Light Princess took place this week. You can watch part 2 of the interview below. You can also listen to Tori and Samuel‘s entire interview on the radio program Front Row on BBC Radio 4 (which aired earlier this week as well). Both of these interviews provide lots of insight into the creation of The Light Princess and, for me, they make me DESPERATE to see the show for myself. Please enjoy. More »
Back in June we learned the exciting news that actor Neil Patrick Harris signed on to star in a new Broadway production of the smash off-Broadway show (turned indie cult classic film) Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Today we get our first look at NPH as Hedwig as the first promo poster for the show has been released. Neil posted a teaser photo from the poster photoshoot about 2 weeks ago on his official Instagram profile and debuted the poster itself on his official Twitter profile. Music and Lyrics by Tori Amos
Back in June we got our first look at the poster artwork for the new musical production The Light Princess that features music and lyrics by the amazing Tori Amos. Since that time, the show has opened in previews at The National Theater in London and has entered into a new phase of promotion. Tori Amos sat down to talk with The New York Times about the show as a first batch of promo photos have been released online. Click thru the gallery to see official photos from the show then head over to the NYT site HERE to read their featured article on Tori about The Light Princess. I’m trying to stay away from spoilers until I can see the show for myself (which probably won’t be until next year). I understand a cast recording will be released soon so I’ll deffo be taking a listen when it becomes available but, yeah, it’s hard to remain unspoiled with all this great stuff coming out. If any of y’all in London are able to see the show, please let us know what you think of it. Tori Amos is a goddess. I can only imagine the magic she whipped up for her first musical stage production. Judging by these photos, she’s managed to craft a masterpiece.

Back in February of 2010 we first learned that a musical version of American Psycho was headed for the musical theater stage and today we learn that British actor Matt Smith has been cast in the lead role of Patrick Bateman. Smith, as some of you may know, rose to fame when he took over the lead role of The Doctor in the British TV series Doctor Who when David Tennant left the role. Now that Smith has moved on from Doctor Who, it would appear that he has his sights set on a career in musical theater. While I still have some concerns about an American Psycho musical, I am intrigued by the decision to cast Matt Smith as the lead. More »
