Watch: Neil Patrick Harris Shares Personal Video From His Final Performance Of ‘Hedwig And The Angry Inch’

This is the End

Back in June we learned that actor Andrew Rannells will be taking over the lead role in Hedwig and the Angry Inch at the end of Neil Patrick Harris‘s run in the show. Last night, Neil delivered his final performance as Hedwig but before he took to the stage, he shared a few really fun videos with his followers on Instagram. Neil posted a couple videos that show him getting ready for his performance last night as well as one more video when he was all dressed and ready for the stage. Click below to see what it takes for NPH to become Hedwig on Broadway. More »

Watch: This Is How Broadway’s ‘Aladdin’ Paid Homage To The Late Robin Williams

In honor of one of the Greatest Entertainers of all Time
"We're only going to do this once ..."

The cast of the new Broadway musical Aladdin paid homage to the late Robin Williams this week with a special, one-time-only audience sing-a-long performance of Friend Like Me, a song that Williams recorded first for the Disney animated feature film Aladdin. As you can see in the embed above, Tony Award-winner James Monroe Iglehart (who won his award for playing the Genie in the Broadway version of Aladdin) led the cast, crew and audience in a special rendition of Friend Like Me after their performance Tuesday night. This homage was really lovely, I think. Please enjoy.

The Men Of Broadway’s ‘Rocky’ Bare Their Bodies For ‘Out’ Magazine

Booty Call

Out magazine managed to cajole some of the guys from the ensemble cast of Rocky: The Musical on Broadway to pose for a totally nekkid photospread in their magazine. As you can see in the gallery presented here (which may be a bit much for this early in the morning but, oh well), these Broadway actors with finely honed bodies are happy to bare almost all for Out. Because of the high level of bare bums in these photos, I suppose this post may be NSFW but if you’re gonna be NSFW I think this is the way to do it :D Enjoy!

Keke Palmer Will Become Broadway’s First Black Cinderella

Starting September 9

Earlier this year we learned that pop star Carly Rae Jepsen would be playing the role of Cinderella in the current Broadway musical production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella and today we learn that a new actress will be taking on the role starting next month. Keke Palmer, who did an excellent job playing Rozonda Chilli Thomas in that TLC made-for-tv biopic movie we saw last year, has just been announced as the new Cinderella starting September 9. Keke‘s casting is significant because she is the first Black actress to every play the role on Broadway. Woot!! More »

Allison Williams Will Play Peter Pan In NBC’s Live Musical Production

Coming December 4

Back in January we learned that NBC selected Peter Pan as their next live musical production, set to air later this year, and today we learn that the network has found their star! HBO‘s Girls actress (and daughter of NBC news reporter Brian Williams) Allison Williams has been cast in the lead role of Peter Pan in the upcoming live production. Those of us who have seen her work in Girls knows that she likes to sing … tho, the jury is out on whether or not she’s a good singer. Here Is Your First Look At Andrew Rannells In ‘Hedwig And The Angry Inch’

Second Act

Last month we learned that stage and television actor Andrew Rannells has been selected to take over the lead role in Hedwig and the Angry Inch when Neil Patrick Harris leaves the show next month. Today we get our first look at Rannells as he will look as Hedwig in the hit Broadway show. NPH, as you may know, won the Tony Award for his performance in Hedwig but I have every confidence that Andrew will do an excellent job putting his own spin on the character when he takes over Hedwig and the Angry Inch next month. The Tupac Musical ‘Holler If Ya Hear Me’ Bombs On Broadway, Will Close This Weekend

Dunzo!

Welp … I guess the plan to bring the music of Tupac Shakur to the Broadway stage was too ambitious or not well-executed or whatever because we learn today that the show is closing early due to nonexistent ticket sales. Holler If Ya Hear Me opened on the Great White Way just a few weeks ago and never really caught on with either 2pac fans or Broadway fans. Because the show turned out to be a bomb, producers have decided to close the show early in order to cut their losses while they can. After only 38 performances (not including previews), Holler If Ya Hear Me will Peace the Spork Out this Sunday. More »

Theater Review: ‘Aladdin’

The TV Guide

As a BIG fan of the original Disney animated film, I have been anxiously awaiting my chance to see the Broadway production of Aladdin … and last night was finally my chance. I did my best to stay away from any spoilers about the show but I couldn’t resist watching the live performance of the Friend Like Me number on the Tony Awards this year so I knew that I was in for a good time based on just that performance. The hardest thing for me was to try and not think about the original animated movie while watching the show. I didn’t want to compare the two since it is impossible to recreate the magic of animation on the live action stage. On its own, I really did love Aladdin … even if I wished there was a way for Disney to infuse a bit more magic into the performance. More »
