Julianne Hough & Vanessa Hudgens Will Star In Fox’s Televised Musical Production Of ‘Grease Live’

As Sandy and Rizzo, respectively

Just one day after we learned that NBC will either produce The Music Man (boo) or The Wiz (yay) as their live televised musical production this year, we learn that Fox has cast two actresses in its forthcoming live televised musical production of Grease. While I love Grease, I can’t say that I’m all that excited by a live version of it being produced for television. NBC has yet to wow me, I don’t really have great faith that Fox will wow me with this production. Fox has announced that actress Julianne Hough has been cast as Sandy and actress (and soon-to-be Broadway star) Vanessa Hudgens has been cast as Rizzo. Hmmm. More »

In fact, we are being told outright that the next musical that NBC will produce will either be The Music Man or The Wiz. I am hoping FOR THE SAKE OF ALL THINGS GOOD AND HOLY that they decide to stage The Wiz because OMG, that would be amazing! More »

"it’s not set in stone ... we’re working on it"

Rumors of a movie version of the hit Broadway musical Wicked: The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz have been going around for years now but new comments by producer Marc Platt have kicked up talk about the Wicked movie once again. According to Platt, the film version of Wicked could be in theaters by next year … even tho the movie hasn’t been officially greenlighted just yet. A lot of work is going on behind the scenes, he says, and a 2016 release date is the goal but … nothing is “set in stone” just yet. Even still, talk of a 2016 release date is very exciting :) More »

Look what the 'Cats' dragged in

Nicole Scherzinger, who has sought fame as the lead doll of the Pussycat Dolls, as a solo artist and as a judge on the British version of The X-Factor, is making another attempt at success in the entertainment biz with a leading role in a new London production of the Andrew Lloyd Weber musical Cats. Scherzy stars as Grizabella the Glamour Cat in this revival of the musical and, apparently, is getting pretty decent reviews in the role. Watch: Here Is The Best Of The Worst From ‘Peter Pan Live!’

'Peter' Panned

So … after many, many months of anticipation, NBC aired their musical production of Peter Pan Live! live on national television last night. The responses to the program are very mixed with one camp heralding the production as a triumph while an opposing camp has demonized the production as a musical theater travesty. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle for most people, I think. I have some things to say about Peter Pan Live!, as I’m sure you do as well, so … click below to watch a few videos from last night’s televised musical theater special and let’s discuss the broadcast television event of the week! John Cameron Mitchell Will Star In ‘Hedwig And The Angry Inch’ On Broadway

The OG

Neil Patrick Harris, Andrew Rannells and Michael C. Hall have all played Hedwig in the new Broadway production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch. When MCH‘s run is finished in January, Hedwig creator and star of the original off-Broadway version of the show John Cameron Mitchell will star in the Broadway version of the show he created. I honestly cannot think of a better person to take over the reigns as Hedwig than John Cameron Mitchell. Brilliant, just brilliant. More »

First Look/Listen: Allison Williams Sings, Christopher Walken Is Perfect In This New Promo Video For ‘Peter Pan Live!’

I'm still not convinced
She don't wanna grow up

Last last month we got to see the first video promo for NBC‘s upcoming live musical production Peter Pan Live! scheduled to air this holiday season and today we get to hear actress Allison Williams sing as Peter Pan for the first time in this just released new video promo. As you can also see in the video embedded above, Christopher Walken as Captain Hook is utter perfection … but … the more footage I see from this production, the more I’m convinced it’s not the show for me. I love musical theater … but not all musical theater. In any event, I have a feeling this new production of Peter Pan will do well for NBC. Have a look at the video above and see if it looks like something that YOU will want to watch when it airs on NBC on December 4.

First Look: NBC Releases A First Promo Video For ‘Peter Pan Live!’

The Holiday Broadway Musical Event
Lights, Camera, Flying

About a month ago, we got to check out new promo images of Allison Williams and Christopher Walken in character as Peter Pan and Captain Hook respectively as they will appear in the upcoming NBC holiday broadway musical event Peter Pan Live!, which will air on the network live on December 4. Today we get to see the first promo video for the musical special. This video is not really a trailer, per se, as it features more behind the scenes footage from the promo photoshoots but it does give us our first look at the actors in character, in real life. Personally, I’m still not at all impressed with what we’ve seen of Peter Pan Live! but, to be fair, we really haven’t seen much so … I’ll reserve judgement. What do you think?
