Party, Party, Party, Dance

The TV Guide

My Sunday was so jam packed with people I love that it had to be one of the best days that I enjoyed in a very long time. I had two birthday parties to attend (well, 1 and 1/2 actually) before I met up with Tamar for a show date before I made my way to the Echoplex to dance my buns off at the latest Smiths / Morrissey dance party night at Part Time Punks. Spending my day with my friend Jesse and his family and my friends Emma and Josh and their newborn son was just perfection. My night was pure, unadulterated fun. It was a true Super Sunday Funday! ‘The Breakfast Club’ Is Being Re-Released In Theaters To Celebrate The Film’s 30th Anniversary

The Film turns 30 this Sunday

The classic John Hughes film The Breakfast Club will celebrate the 30th anniversary of its release in theaters this Sunday and to celebrate, the movie is being re-released in movie theaters in March. The Breakfast Club was released on February 15, 1985 and to mark the occasion, Universal Pictures is bringing the movie back to theaters complete with an introductory featurette that will look back on the film’s legacy and continuing impact on pop culture. Additionally, a new musical theater production of For The Record: Dear John Hughes has opened here in LA and will open in Chicago that pays homage to the music of John Hughes‘s films — including The Breakfast Club. It’s insane to me to think that the movie is now 30 years old. Wow. More »

Julianne Hough & Vanessa Hudgens Will Star In Fox’s Televised Musical Production Of ‘Grease Live’

As Sandy and Rizzo, respectively

Just one day after we learned that NBC will either produce The Music Man (boo) or The Wiz (yay) as their live televised musical production this year, we learn that Fox has cast two actresses in its forthcoming live televised musical production of Grease. While I love Grease, I can’t say that I’m all that excited by a live version of it being produced for television. NBC has yet to wow me, I don’t really have great faith that Fox will wow me with this production. Fox has announced that actress Julianne Hough has been cast as Sandy and actress (and soon-to-be Broadway star) Vanessa Hudgens has been cast as Rizzo. Hmmm. More »

'Peter' Panned

The responses to the program are very mixed with one camp heralding the production as a triumph while an opposing camp has demonized the production as a musical theater travesty. John Cameron Mitchell Will Star In ‘Hedwig And The Angry Inch’ On Broadway

The OG

Neil Patrick Harris, Andrew Rannells and Michael C. Hall have all played Hedwig in the new Broadway production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch. When MCH‘s run is finished in January, Hedwig creator and star of the original off-Broadway version of the show John Cameron Mitchell will star in the Broadway version of the show he created. I honestly cannot think of a better person to take over the reigns as Hedwig than John Cameron Mitchell. Brilliant, just brilliant. More »
