New Year's Eve 1984
PITNB reader Christine (my girl) pointed me in the direction of this interview of Johnny Marr reminiscing about the time that Madonna opened up for The Smiths back in the early 80′s when she was still an unknown coat check girl at the famed nightclub Danceteria. Altho the video is a few years old and I had heard the story before, it occurred to me that there are others who may have never heard this little bit of odd pop culture coincidence. When the very young British band The Smiths paid their first visit to the US in 1983, they played their first US shows in NYC. On New Year’s Eve, The Smiths played Danceteria and Madonna of all people was the opening act. Watch the video above to hear what Johnny has to say about that fateful night over 30 years ago.

"Every song that's making the album has to resonate with the now"
OMG! Tori Amos just released a short promo video that features her talking about the making of her new album Unrepentant Geraldines and it is soooo amazing, I’m almost weeping from happiness. As you can see above, the video was shot on the set of the photoshoot for her album cover and as you can HEAR, bits of one of the songs on the album is featured in the early part of the video. I can’t quite guess which song it might be but OMG, it sounds PERFECT. The audio of her new single Trouble’s Lament is featured in the middle part of the video as background music to Tori‘s discussion of her album and another new song is used near the end. AHH! She looks amazing, she sounds amazing … I am near death right now. Watch this video … over and over, if need be. The Goddess has returned to us. We are SO not worthy!!
I PROMISE THAT THIS IS NOT AN APRIL FOOL'S JOKE
I know, I know … it’s probably hard to believe anything that I have to say today after THIS post and THIS post but I SWEAR TO GODNEY, this is not a joke. The early 00′s boyband O-Town is staging a comeback. I know, I had a hard time believing it myself. The guys launched an official website yesterday announcing to the world that they are reuniting and are coming back with new music. The only problem is that the most famous member of the group, Ashley Parker Angel, has opted out of taking part in the reunion. Boo. BUT EVEN STILL, all of your Liquid Dreams are coming true right now, right?! Watch the video above to see the older version of O-Town (Erik-Michael Estrada, Dan Miller, Trevor Penick and Jacob Underwood) making their reunion announcement … then click below to see what non-returning member Ashley Parker Angel is up to these days. ... which is due out this year!
Kanye West has some bad news for the folks of Australia but good news for the rest of the world — he’s postponing his planned concert tour of Australia until later this year so that he can complete work on his new album, DUE OUT LATER THIS YEAR. I honestly had no idea that Kanye was so close to finishing up his follow up to Yeezus … nor did I expect him to release a new album so soon but … I’M DOWN! The bummer part is that the folks in Australia who bought tickets for his Yeezus Tour are gonna get the shaft for a few months. More »
