Back in January I blogged about the 20th anniversary release of Tori Amos‘s second album Under The Pink, commenting on how important that album is to me. Today, I’m blogging about the 20th anniversary release of Nine Inch Nails‘s second album The Downward Spiral — the single most important album in my life. I know it sounds hyperbolic to say that an album can change a person’s life but in this case, it’s true. I’ve been a lifelong music fan, happily relishing in the songs that touch my soul or simply make me happy. I could list any number of albums that have had a great impact on my life in various ways but no album has truly affected the person that I am as much as The Downward Spiral has. 20 years ago today, I walked into my local record store and I paid about $9.99 for the album that would change my life forever, in ways I couldn’t even imagine. Last Summer, producer Timbaland announced that he was planning to release previously unheard music from Michael Jackson by year’s end but no album, no single has been released. Apparently, the project was sanctioned by Epic Records honcho L.A. Reid but for some reason, nothing has yet come from those plans. Today, tho, we get to hear a snippet of a new song titled Slave to the Rhythm that teases Timbaland‘s involvement in this project. As you can hear below, the song definitely features MJ‘s vocals … but is this Timbaland produced song worthy of release? Have a listen. More »
Earlier this week, Prince staged a complete takeover of The Arsenio Hall Show that included interviews and live musical performances, including a performance by his protegée singer Liv Warfield. Last night, Live performed a concert at the Hollywood Palladium and wouldn’t you know it … Prince himself came out on stage to do a little performing of his own. As you may know, Prince does NOT allow his concerts to be photographed or recorded in any way so footage of his shows can be hard to come by. Even still, sneaky fans do manage to record portions of his live performances for sharing with the rest of the world. Click below to watch a portion of Prince’s performance last night of Janet Jackson’s song What Have You Done For Me Lately? and see what we missed by not being at the Hollywood Palladium last night. Video of Bey‘s Grammy Awards rehearsal has made its way online that is just TOO ADORABLE for its own good. Bey performs Drunk in Love in its entirety (with a guy standing in for Jay Z) and at the end of the video, we can hear Blue Ivy singing Surfbort!!!!! And if that wasn’t cute enough, Blue also offers up a Hi, Mommy as well. People, prepare do die from cuteness overload. More »
YES! YES! YES! Last month Madonna teased us with the news that plans were “in the works” for a new album and at the time, she was reluctant to let us know who she would be working with on new music. "I got a little teary"
Last weekend we got to see video of Bruce Springsteen performing a cover of Lorde‘s worldwide smash hit song Royals during a concert stop in her native New Zealand. Today we are hearing from Lorde about that cover performance and the effect it had on her. Rolling Stone magazine caught up with Lorde and talked to her about Springsteen‘s musical tribute to her song. She also gushed a bit about the fact that her debut album Pure Heroine has surpassed the 1 million albums sold mark. All in all, it sounds like life is pretty dang sweet for Miss Lorde these days. It’s ok to be jealous. More »

On Wednesday night, the one and only PRINCE took over the entirety of The Arsenio Hall Show (which you can watch in full HERE) but last night, it was back to business as usual on the late night talk show. Rick Ross was scheduled to perform on the show — which he did — but he brought along a couple of friends to perform with him … much to the surprise and glee of everyone in attendance. Kanye West and Big Sean were Rick Ross‘s special surprise guests during his performance of Sanctified last night. Click the embed above to watch this performance. I guess you never know where Kanye West will pop up these days.
So much YES!
