'A Change Is Gonna Come'
Late last week unfortunate news broke that my beloved Detroit, MI became the first city to ever file for bankruptcy protection in an effort to get control of the city’s failing finances. Naturally, this is a sad story not only for those of us who love Detroit but for the entire country … because Detroit is an integral part of the US. During her concert stop in Detroit Rock City over the weekend, Beyoncé paid tribute to Detroit with a performance of the Sam Cooke song A Change Is Gonna Come. She did not directly reference the bankruptcy, she merely performed the song in tribute to the amazing city. Click below to watch a video clip from Bey‘s performance in and for Detroit. More »
BLKKK SKKKN HEAD
Earlier this month, an unfinished rough cut of Kanye West‘s music video for his new single Black Skinhead was leaked to the Internets. The video leak pissed off Kanye greatly and he asked us to wait for the official release of the music video before we formed an opinion about it. Well, the video is finished and ready for our viewing. Click below to watch the video for BLKKK SKKKN HEAD and see what you think. The video is interactive and may autoplay once the full blogpost loads. I’ve watched the clip a few times and … well, you watch it then we’ll talk. More »
Kanye, Kanye, Kanye … sigh. Perhaps in an effort to deflect the news that he is being investigated by police after he allegedly assaulted and attempted robbery of a photographer in LA, West posted a message on his official Twitter profile meant to invite debate over his bold claim that his song New Slaves features the, and I quote, “best rap verse of all time.” Now, it’s no big surprise that Yeezy has a big ego … one that is oftentimes too much to handle even for him but to assert that he wrote the “best rap verse of all time” — surpassing greats like Notorious B.I.G. (!), Dr. Dre (!!), Tupac (!!!) and on and on — I think it’s possible to assume that Kanye done lost is DAMN mind. Click below to read this claim in full and read the lyrics that West maintains make up the “best rap verse of all time.” More »

Xtina Continues to Find Success with the Help of Others
Christina Aguilera‘s most recent album Lotus may have bombed like a mothereffer but that’s not stopping Xtina from going as hard as she can with the release of new music … the only problem is that the new music that is coming out from her belongs to other people and she just provides guest vocals. Nonetheless, the successful release of new music is a good thing no matter whose song it is. You may recall that Xtina was able to enjoy a hit song with her collaboration with Pitbull earlier this year on their single Feel This Moment and today we learn that she is trying to enjoy another hit with another collab. This time around, Xtina has teamed up with Latin artist Alejandro Fernández on his new single Hoy Tengo Ganas De Ti. I’m ashamed to admit that I have no idea what a “ganas” are but from my terrible translation of the song title, it sounds like Alejando has a lot of them for Xtina today … or something like that. WHATEVER THE SONG IS ABOUT, Xtina is bringing it hard in the music video for this song … exposed bra, garish red lips, recycled hand thru hair dance moves and all. Check out the video for Hoy Tengo Ganas De It by Alejandro and Xtina and see what you think. Does Xtina have another hit on her manos?
SOLD OUT ALREADY
LA dj superstar DJ Vice has teamed up with Tumi luggage to release his very own DJ backpack and he did so with a little help from our girl Hustle Roses. For the past few months, Hustle Roses has been collaborating with Vice on some new music … new music that was used in a promo video that Tumi released to announce the Tumi X Vice DJ Backpack. Unfortunately, the bag was in such high demand that it sold out almost as soon as it was made available for sale online … but a second batch of backpacks is reportedly on the way. The MOST IMPORTANT THING TO NOTE, tho, is that music that Hustle Roses created for Vice is featured in the promo video embedded above. Check out the video above to hear Hustle Roses‘s music and see how sweet the Tumi X Vice DJ Backpack is. You can sign up HERE to be notified when the backpack will be made available for sale again. Here’s hoping this first collaboration between Hustle Roses and DJ Vice is the start of more beautiful music to come :)
Selena Gomez‘s new album Stars Dance hasn’t been released yet but the music video for the album’s second single has already made its way online (you may recall the first single was for the just-OK single Come and Get It). The video for her new single Slow Down kinda leaked its way to the Internets ahead of the release of Stars Dance this coming Tuesday and as you can see in the embedded video above, the video is HOT HOT HOT. Selena really goes for the sexy in this video which compliments the song very much, I think. Slow Down is a great track, deffo one of my fave singles of the Summer … and now we have the music video to go along with it. Click above to watch Selena‘s video for Slow Down and see what you think. It’s hot, right?

That-Ish-Cray Of The Day... Or... That Ish Cray Of The Day???
Yesterday we celebrated some of the best, politically-charged songs of the 2000s, and we started with Jay-Z‘s unforgettable track, 99 Problems. Excuse me– Jay Z‘s unforgettable track 99 Problems. Because, apparently, Shawn Corey Carter has decided to officially dropped the hyphen from his rap moniker. The change took place a few years back, but an official announcement was made on Twitter about the issue, and now I feel it is my duty to let y’all know that the artist formerly known as Jay-Z, is now Jay Z. This is huge… LOL. Click inside for more!
Green Day, Lady Gaga, Dead Prez, And More
In the past week, artists everywhere have been speaking out about George Zimmerman‘s acquittal in the Trayvon Martin case (and some are even creating new songs about the case). Zimmerman was found innocent of murder and manslaughter, although he killed a 17 year-old, unarmed boy who was walking home from the store. There is, sometimes, a belief that our generation is more complacent and less interested in political going-ons than past generations. This may be true– and may be a reflection of many things including the progress our parents made, technology, and a certain luxury these things have afforded us. But we are definitely not without our political concerns and many great songs over the past few years reflect those concerns. Some of the political messages are veiled with a pop sound or a sick beat (like Jay Z‘s 99 Problems), while others are anything but subtle (Green Day‘s Minority). Y’all know I’m a hip-hop head, so many of these songs reflect my personal taste. As always, feel free to add your own personal favorites in the comments. And click inside for more!
