Today is April 20, 4/20, and in addition to being National Stoner’s Day it is also Record Store Day. Every April, folks pack independent record stores here in the US and in the UK to pick up special and/or limited edition releases in order to channel cash money into the coffers of indie record shops. I never EVER have success on Record Store Day. Either I get to the store too late in the day or the ONE record I really want sells out on me OR I’m traveling and unable to even try my luck (which means I have to pay double on eBay). This year was different, this year I was successful in picking up every record I wanted at the ONE store I went to :D There haven’t been a lot of things that have been cheering me up lately but today’s RSD haul has brightened my day considerably. As y’all know, Kendrick Lamar is my new jam and, along with Frank Ocean‘s Channel Orange, his debut album was one of my favorites from last year. good kid, m.A.A.d city has been hailed by many as a classic, and K-Dot was recently crowned the Hottest MC In The Game by MTV. He’s collaborated with Miguel, Jay-Z, Drake, and Lady Gaga and now he’s getting ready to take over the world! The good kid, m.A.A.d city world tour is officially kicking off in West Palm Beach, Florida. Click inside to see when Kendrick‘s coming to a city near you!
The Perfect Collab
A little while back we got our first listen to Miguel‘s How Many Drinks remix featuring Kendrick Lamar. As y’all know Kendrick and Miguel individually can do no wrong in my eyes, so I was so psyched to see them teaming up together. It just… makes sense. And I’m loving the visuals to their collabo, which just got released today. The video has a kind of Suit & Tie feel, but the song is on a whole ‘nother level. Peep the video for more!

Yesterday afternoon I flew up to San Francisco, CA for a much-needed change of scenery and I’m really glad that I did. I considered canceling my trip so that I could stay home and sulk but thankfully, I didn’t do that. Instead, I got to enjoy a fun night in SF with a very dear friend, enjoying a live concert performance by other dear friends. I even got to meet a PITNB reader who cheered me up to no end. I’m flying back to LA shortly but this quick trip to SF has been extremely positive for me. Thank the gods. More »

The Real Song, For Real
Last weekend Daft Punk teased audio and the music video for their new single Get Lucky, the first from their new album Random Access Memories. Today, after the illegitimate release of many fake versions of the track, Daft Punk officially releases the actual audio of the song. Get Lucky features Pharrell on vocals and can be heard in full above. If this is a sign of what’s to come on Random Access Memories then I think Daft Punk are going to do VERY WELL with this new album. I LOVE this track, can’t wait to hear more!! Random Access Memories will be released on May 21.

This Time She's Covering Nancy Sinatra
A little while back Lana Del Rey offered up visuals for her cover of Leonard Cohen‘s Chelsea Hotel No. 2. It seems like she’s in the mood to relive and re-lurve some of her favorite songs because she’s just released a video for Summer Wine, her cover of the Nancy Sinatra song. It’s LDR, so you know she’s going for the retro look in the video. We’ve definitely seen it from her before, but this is a nice little hold-over… until we get to hear that new track from The Great Gatsby soundtrack. Plus her real-life boyfriend, Barrie-James O’Neill (singer for Scottish band Kassidy), is all up in this too. Peep the video for more! I love this song, but I really love the little shouts-out to Billie Holiday at the end. I’m wondering if that’s a hint at LDR‘s next cover!
Earlier today I confessed that Drake‘s new song was on repeat, and I’m happy to say I now have two songs that I’ll be blasting all day. Right about now, everybody’s got Baz Luhrmann on the brain. Trent‘s been enjoying some of his old movies, and I’ve been mentally and emotionally preparing for the release of The Great Gatsby as well. One aspect of the film that I’m crazy-excited about is the music. Jay-Z produced the soundtrack and we got to hear snippets of some of the amazing songs when a new trailer dropped a while back. Today we get the full version of one of the songs I was most excited to hear– Florence + The Machine‘s Over The Love. Click inside for your first listen!

Last night my good friend Hustle Roses performed her latest concert here in SoCal at a show in Santa Monica, CA. As you may recall, Hustle Roses previously played shows at the Bootleg Bar in Echo Park and at the Ham and Eggs Tavern in downtown LA in just the past few weeks. Homegirl is working hard to ensure that as many people as possible are able to experience her music live. Last night’s Hustle Roses concert was also a bit of a reunion as well … click below to check out photos and video from the fun last night. More »

Hear the NEW Single from The New Regime NOW!
Earlier this year we learned that Nine Inch Nails is coming back to the concert performance stage later in the year and even tho there has yet to be an official announcement about new music (outside of the two new songs Trent Reznor promises for the upcoming tour), I think many fans are hopeful that we will get to hear new NIN stuff soon. In the meantime, NIN drummer Ilan Rubin is hard at work on the release of a new album by his solo project The New Regime. A new album titled Exhibit A will be released next month and today we get to hear the first single from the album, a track titled Daydream. Click below to hear this new single in full, learn more about Exhibit A and check out a cool promo video that previews tracks from the album. More »
