First Look: Avril Lavigne’s Music Video For ‘Hello Kitty’ Is So Kawaii That It’ll Make You Puke Rainbows

"Come come Kitty Kitty / You're so pretty pretty"
"K-K-K-Kawaii!"

Avril Lavigne is still hard at work at that music career of hers and has just released a music video for her new single Hello Kitty. As you might have guessed from the song’s title, the video is Japanese-themed and as you can see in the video embed above, it’s a lot to take in. Amazingly, Avril‘s lyrics are still comprised of lines like “Mom’s not home tonight / So we can roll around, have a pillow fight / Like a major rager OMFG” which makes it sound like she’s a 16 year old rather than a 29 year old but clearly her music is geared toward her target audience. If you can imagine what it would look like if all of the supercute things about Tokyo were put into a blender, then consumed, then regurgitated, then consumed again, then puked all over a music video then you’ve got the treatment for Lavigne‘s Hello Kitty video. I’m not kidding you … it’s a lot. Check out the video above and see what you think of Avril‘s latest musical gift to the world.

Watch: Charli XCX Releases A Lyric Video For ‘Boom Clap’

"You're the magic in my veins"
"First kiss just like a drug"

Earlier this week we got our first listen of Charli XCX‘s new single Boom Clap, which is featured on the soundtrack of the film The Fault in our Stars. Today we get to check out the just-released lyric video for the song. I love this song the more I hear it and now that I can read the lyrics in this video, there’s even more to love.

Watch: Katy Perry Releases A Lyric Video For ‘Birthday’

"We're living the life / We're doing it right"
'Birthday' Lurve

Katy Perry is ready to unleash her next single upon the world but before she drops the official music video for her song Birthday, she is letting us have it with the just-released lyric video for the track. As you can see in the video embedded above, this lyric video is a confectionary fan’s DREAM. Food porn has never looked so delicious. The song, eh, it’s only OK (it’s definitely no Dark Horse, that’s for sure) but this super fun lyric video does make the track more palatable. Ugh. Now I want a piece of cake. Thanks a lot, Katy.

Watch: Kylie Minogue Releases A Lyric Video For Her New Single ‘I Was Gonna Cancel’

Go, Girl
The Second Single

Kylie Minogue has announced that the second single from her new album Kiss Me Once will be her song I Was Gonna Cancel, which was written by the amazing Pharrell. Personally, I am hoping that her song Les Sex will be released as a single but, for now, we get I Was Gonna Cancel. I like the song but I can’t say that I love it. The lyrics are odd for a single, I think. When I heard it on the album, I figured it would just be an album track but clearly, Kylie loves it enough to release it as an actual single. Click the video above to check out the lyric video for I Was Gonna Cancel. What say you, Kylie fans? Is this a single you can get behind?

First Look: Sia Wigs Out In The Music Video For Her New Single ‘Chandelier’

Hair Raising
"I'm gonna swing"

Last month we got our first listen of Sia‘s MASSIVE new anthemic pop song Chandelier and today we get to check out the just-released music video for the track. As you can see in the video embedded above, the lyrics to the song are featured throughout the video so it’s unclear if this is the official music video or a lyric video that will precede another video somewhere down the line. It’s a clever video, as you can see above, in that it is so very Sia without actually featuring Sia at all. Have a look, enjoy.

First Listen: Tori Amos Releases Her New Single ‘Trouble’s Lament’

"Hey Ginger, Danger's loose behind his wheels"
"Trouble needs a home girls, Trouble needs a home."

Yesterday we got our first look at the cover art for Tori Amos‘s new single Trouble’s Lament, the first from her upcoming new album Unrepentant Geraldines which is due out on May 13. Today we FINALLY get to hear new music from Tori! Click the video embedded above to hear Trouble’s Lament in full and get your first taste of this new era of Tori Amos music. After a few listens (well, about 25, actually), I can honestly say that I am in LOVE with this new song. If this single is representative of the whole album, then I think longtime Tori fans are going to be very happy. The song sounds like it would fit in nicely on Tori‘s masterpiece album Scarlett’s Walk. Have a listen above then click below to read a quote from Tori about the inspiration behind Trouble’s Lament. First Listen: Mariah Carey Releases Her New Single ‘You’re Mine (Eternal)’

"I can't seem to live without your love ..."
"I can't seem to give you up, you're mine"

Just two days ago, Mariah Carey announced that she would be releasing her new single You’re Mine (Eternal), the first single off her new album, this week and today we get to hear that song in full! Mimi debuted the song earlier today on the radio and then released the song online for the rest of us. The song is hot. It’s reminiscent of the sound that Mariah gave us on her albums The Emancipation of Mimi and E=MC2 … in particular, You’re Mine (Eternal) hearkens back to the vibe of We Belong Together — one of MC‘s biggest hits and one of my fave Mimi songs. I’ve already listened to this song twice and I cannot get enough. Have a listen above and see what you think. This new single bodes very well for how the rest of Mimi‘s album (due out May 6) will sound. I’m so excited!!!

Listen: A Nine Inch Nails Fan Releases A Hilariously Brilliant Parody Titled ‘This Is A Trent Reznor Song’

"womp womp womp"

My friend Michael pointed me in the direction of a hilariously brilliant parody song that pokes a bit of fun at Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor and his songwriting style. Frederick Scott, who makes very clear on his Twitter profile that he is a big fan of Reznor‘s, penned and performs the song This Is A Trent Reznor Song which I think NIN fans (and anyone with a sense of humor, really) will enjoy. We’ve seen over the years that TR has a great sense of humor so I’d like to think that he’ll see the humor in this parody and be flattered … tho, we also know he has been in the best mood lately, so … yeah. In any event, click below to hear this parody and let it brighten up the rest of your day. More »

Kylie Minogue Releases The Lyrics To Her New Single ‘Into The Blue’

"Tonight I'm running free"

Last week we learned from Kylie Minogue herself that she is readying the release of a new single titled Into The Blue when she released a photo that was snapped on the set of the music video for the track. Today she shares with us the lyrics to the song in a photo that she shared on her official Twitter profile. Kylie took a photo of the handwritten lyrics to Into The Blue and then signed them with a kiss … which is such a Kylie thing to do ;) At this point, we haven’t yet heard the song but at least we get to read the lyrics to Kylie‘s much-anticipated new single below. Listen: Prince Gets Dumped For A Woman In His New Song ‘Da Bourgeoisie’

But are the lyrics homophobic?
"I guess a man’s only good for a rainy day"

His purple funkness Prince has released a new single titled Da Bourgeoisie and as you can hear in the video embedded above, homeboy is smartin’ something fierce over getting dumped by his lady … for another lady. As you might expect, the song is a funky jam that tells a love story as only Prince can but a closer look at the lyrics suggests that the way he is delivering the story may be homophobic. No one likes to get dumped by a lover but it seems especially insulting to some people if they get dumped by a lover for someone else of the same sex (ie. a guy gets dumped by a girl for a girl, a girl gets dumped by a guy for a guy). Clearly, according to the lyrics of this song, Prince is one of those people. But is he really being anti-gay with this song? Check out the lyrics of Da Bourgeoisie below and let’s discuss. More »
