Yesterday we learned the sad news (and saw the disappointing video) that Chicago Bulls basketball player Joakim Noah hurled a homophobic slur at a fan on national TV during Game 3 of the Bulls NBA playoffs game against the Miami Heat over the weekend. Today we learn that the NBA has decided to fine Noah $50,000. for the offense … which is half of the fine leveled against LA Lakers basketball player Kobe Bryant last month for the same offense. But, the NBA explains, Bryant‘s slur was aimed at an NBA official so that is why his fine was higher. Apparently, it costs less to call fans “faggots” than it does to yell the same thing to an NBA official.

Noah immediately apologized for the slur after the game but it remains to be seen if he will be punished with the same $100,000. fine for the offense.

In the wake of the disturbing influx of teen suicides by GLBT youth, Dan Savage started the It Gets Better campaign late last year where people were encouraged to make videos in support of GLBT teens in an effort to put an end to teen suicide. Last night, during Glee, Google Chrome aired an amazing commercial in prime time that highlights the amazing work of the It Gets Better campaign … and it’s a video that I think we all should see.

Last week, Kobe Bryant of the LA Lakers was fined $100,000.00 for hurling an offensive anti-gay slur against a referee on live national television. This week he and some of his Lakers teammates are featured in a new tolerance-preaching PSA in an attempt to undo some of the damage Bryant‘s slur caused last week. Back in January we learned that Trevor Donovan, who plays Teddy Montogomery on 90210, was getting a new love interest played by actor Alan Ritchson. Last night, on the Spring Break episde of the show, Teddy (Trevor Donovan) ran into Tripp (Alan Ritchson) on holiday and the guys shared a passionate kiss before retiring to a hotel room where they, presumably, did more than just kiss. During Tuesday night’s LA Lakers basketball game, televised nationally on TBS, Kobe Bryant called the referee who slapped him with a technical foul a “fucking faggot”. As a result of Kobe‘s inexcusable behavior, many called for his punishment for the offense. In an effort to preempt any punishment he might receive, Kobe issued a public “apology” insisting that he did “NOT meant to offend anyone” … but what did he mean to do by calling the ref a “faggot”? Unimpressed by Kobe‘s apology, NBA Commissioner David Stern fined Bryant $100,000. for the remark making it clear to everyone in the NBA that behavior and language like this will not be tolerated. Despite his apology for the remark, Bryant is now appealing the fine. I guess he’s not so sorry after all.

Now that Ricky Martin is well out of the closet as a gay man and after he very publicly acknowledged his relationship with longtime boyfriend Carlos Gonzalez at the GLAAD Media Awards in NYC last month, there is a new report going around that claims that Ricky and Carlos are planning to get married. Now, because Ricky and Carlos can’t get married legally in Puerto Rico, the belief is that the couple may get married in Carlos‘s home country of Spain … where same-sex marriage has been legal since 2005. Could we be hearing wedding bells soon for Mr. Ricky Martin?

In April of last year we were met Kevin Keller, an openly gay character newly introduced into the world of Archie Comics. For the first time since the comic book series debuted in 1939, a gay character was introduced into the gang of characters which famously include Archie, Jughead, Betty and Veronica. Today we learn that Kevin Keller is getting his own comic book series. Due to the success of his introduction, Archie Comics decided to release a special 4 issue set of books starring Kevin Keller.
