Slackers

The TV Guide

My first full day here in Detroit was a very relaxing one. In fact, it was so relaxing that I didn’t even leave the house for the entire 24 hour duration. Sarah, Mark and I talked about going out for dinner and movie and I, as always, suggested we go dancing at City Club but … we ended up watching a bit of TV on the couch (and under a very comfy blanket) and, well, that was the end of our night’s planning. A few episodes of Friends were watched, some amazing Middle Eastern food was ordered and … our Friday night activity was set in stone. More »

Return To ‘Oz’

The TV Guide

Last night I was graciously invited to attend an early screening of the Disney film Oz the Great and Powerful at the El Capitan Theater … so it was a no brainer that I would jump at the chance to go. I absolutely love the movie-going experience at the El Capitan and I’ve been so curious to see Oz that, well, I was very excited for my night out. My friend Josh Z came out to see the movie with me and we had a great time of it. More »

Watch: Audrey Hepburn Returns From The Dead To Sell Chocolate

Dead Celebs Don't Stay Dead for Long
Audrey Lives ... for Chocolate

Famed actress Audrey Hepburn, who passed away in 1993, is “alive” and well in digitally resurrected form for a new TV commercial for Galaxy Chocolate. The late icon’s estate (headed by her sons, I believe) licensed her image to be used in the new ad campaign that has been causing a bit of a stir this week. Some maintain that it is sacrilege to use the deceased in this manner to sell products, others maintain that it’s no big deal. I, personally, don’t know how I feel about this ad campaign in particular. While I don’t see a thing wrong with advertising in this manner, I think someone as beloved as Audrey Hepburn shouldn’t be lowered to shilling for candy bars. That said, I’m amazed by the ad agency’s ability to digitally bring Hepburn back from the dead for this new ad … it reminds me of Hologram Tupac, in that respect.

Check out the ad above and see what you think. Is this commercial something that appeals to you, grosses you our or neither?

What A ‘Wonder’ful Day

The TV Guide

Yesterday was a pretty fun day. I ran an errand, got to have a late lunch with my friend Tony and then met up with a bunch of friends at Tam and Rob’s place for a night of dinner and conversation. The errand was a really fun one that involved shopping. On Thursday I made my way to Beverly Hills to get my haircut and as I passed the Paley Center on Beverly Blvd. I noticed they had on display a bunch of comic book artwork by Alex Ross. I have been obsessed with Ross‘s work for years so it was really love at first sight. The Paley Center was closed Thursday night so I took my ass back there Friday to buy the Alex Ross print of Wonder Woman. Sigh. WW has always been one of my fave characters (along with Batman) so it was really a no brainer for me. More »

A Sunday Funday

The TV Guide

After a very emotional morning, I decided that yesterday was going to be a fun day for me … so I got out of the house and stayed bizzy. I made the trek down to Anaheim, CA to have some fun at Disney’s California Adventure and Disneyland before I met up with some friends for a fun dinner party together. I ended my night at the Echoplex dancing my buns off at the Part Time Punks danceparty that featured music by The Smiths & Morrissey. It was a long, active day … but it was really fun. More »

Coconut Cupcakes Will Save The Day

The TV Guide

Last night I was invited down to Manhattan Beach, CA to have dinner with Emma and Josh in celebration of her sister Chelsea’s arrival in town for the weekend. Emma cooked … so you can understand my trepidation. Still, I decided that I have thus far avoided the deathly flu that has ravaged the nation this season (knock on wood) so how bad could a dinner cooked by Emma really be. I’m happy to report that not only did I not die after dinner but I really enjoyed the entire meal … from start to finish. Em has been doing a lot of at home cooking since Josh’s collarbone injury so they’ve been staying in a lot. I felt last night was the perfect opportunity to spend some quality time with the both of them at home. More »

The Couch Is Coming

The TV Guide

A few weeks ago I purchased the leather club chair that I’ve been dreaming about for years and at the time, I also found the perfect couch to go along with it. I had a few logistical things to take care of before I could take the plunge and buy the couch so I had to hold off for a bit. Yesterday, tho, I managed to get things sorted and I went ahead an ordered my BEAUTIFUL new couch! And, I know it may sound a bit lame to get all excited about a piece of furniture … but when you consider how many naps will be enjoyed on this new piece of furniture, I think it becomes more clear how important this news truly is. Late Night Sugar Rush

The TV Guide

My laundry remains unwashed … I didn’t actually make it out to the movies yesterday … actually, the highlight of my day yesterday was a late night run to McDonald’s for sustenance and sugar. Oh and I didn’t go for a run either. Yes, my Wednesday was basically a schlub fest that resulted in far too little activity and far too many calories. Oh well :D More »

Feta Fries, FTW!

The TV Guide

Life’s been pretty quiet for me this week and honestly, it’s just the way I like it. I didn’t have any plans yesterday so I did my best to do as little as possible. I meant to get started on my laundry but … nope. I ventured out for a bit to grab some food and pick up a few things at Target so that was pretty much the highlight of my day. My friend Sarah sent me a hilarious photo of a Pampers baby model that she says looks like me (see main thumbnail image) and I decided to make it my Facebook profile photo. I actually can see the resemblance … but I’m not sure if it looks like me or like my long lost baby … who knows? While at Target yesterday, I passed thru the baby section and there I was … a lady even gave me a second look, it was kinda funny :D More »

Morrissey Is A Heartbreaker

The TV Guide

So … remember how excited I was to see Morrissey in concert yesterday? So excited that I blogged about it twice?! Yeah, well, the show never happened because Moz decided to cancel the concert almost at the last minute. From what I understand, Morrissey has an infamous track record of canceling shows like this at the last minute but in all the years I’ve seen him, I’ve never been canceled on … until now :( More »
