'Bow Down, B-tches'
Um. Okay. Yeah. No. Beyoncé is not playin around with bitches, apparently. LMAO, Aghhhhh! I… effing… love… this… song! Seemingly out of nowhere, the Queen Bey released a new single produced by Hit Boy and it’s kind of a big deal. I don’t even know what would possess you to keep reading whatever ridiculousness I’m writing when there’s a friggen part-trap/part-R&B, 100% gangsta track waiting for you inside! Bow down bitches!
'Everything Must Go/Like Everything You Know'
I’ve been hearing/reading the name ‘Jhené Aiko‘ for the past year or so and I’m finally, finally listening to her music. Today, on her 25th birhday, she released a new track with which I’m kind of falling in lurve. Immediately she reminded me of Amel Larrieux (throwback!) and I absolutely love the message of this song. It also doesn’t hurt that she has No I.D. on the production. Click inside for your first listen!
It's Official: Everybody Loves Kendrick
OMGOMGOMGOMG. Yespleasemorethankyou/I’ve lit’rally been waiting for this moment since Kendrick Lamar‘s debut album dropped back in October. The album was/is so damn good, I couldn’t help but wonder why Jay-Z wasn’t on it somewhere, lol. But here he is! As y’all know, Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe is one of my absolute favorite songs… of the century. I even got caught up in an intense, [totally one-sided] beef with Lady Gaga over the video she [unnecessarily] released for the song, after she decided she didn’t want it to be on Kendrick‘s album. But who needs Gaga when Jigga‘s on the remix?!?! Producer Young Guru (who is Jay-Z‘s everything) just premiered the Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe remix at SXSW and it’s kind of a big deal. I love that Jay-Z‘s on it, and I love that it’s a real, live remix with a new verse from K-Dot and everything. The best part of the whole thing is that I get to imagine Jay-Z walking around his house singing the hook to himself. Love it. Peep the video for more! Kendrick really is, officially, the hottest MC in the game!
"Who’s Cooler Than This Witch?"
Last week we got our first look at the cover art for Azealia Banks‘s new single Yung Rapunxel, which is the first from her upcoming debut album Broke With Expensive Taste (due out later this year … sometime … I think). Today we get to hear the track in full. Azealia released the single on her official Twitter profile earlier today giving us a taste of what’s to come when she finally releases her first full-length album. Miss Banks has been generating a lot of buzz with the singles and mixtapes she’s been releasing herself over the past couple of years (and has garnered attention for the Internet antics and social media feuds she’s gotten mixed up in) but this is our first taste of what her serious music career may sound like. Last week Daft Punk teased us with 10 seconds of new music when they released a short video commercial during last weekend’s broadcast of Saturday Night Live. Today we get to hear the entirety of a NEW song that has reportedly “leaked” online. The song is apparently titled Dancing to the Beat and can be heard in full above. I’m suspicious of this “leak” because I’m suspicious of many things on the Internet. When the 10 second Daft Punk commercial was uploaded online last week, it was yanked offline soon thereafter by the record company. This “leaked” song has been online for many hours now and it has yet to be yanked. It’s quite possible the song has been strategically released online to generate buzz … but does it really matter? Take a listen to the song and see what you think. It deffo has that Daft Punk sound to it … I can’t wait to hear more.
'They need me more than they hate me'
Last month Drake dropped the visuals to his first single in quite some time, Started From The Bottom. The song was a little too French Montana-y for my liking, but I thought the video was fun. Around 1 a.m. this morning Drake released a second single 5AM in Toronto (not to be confused with his 2010 single 9AM in Dallas). I… love… it! I love it. Producer Boi-1da type killed it, and lyrically, I think Drake sounds really good. It pretty much sounds like… an actual rap song. And honestly? We don’t get a lot of those these days, lol. I also love a good song with excessive shouts-out (peep the end of the verse) Click inside for your first listen!
'Call Me A Hole'
Here’s a little ditty that I think all y’all should hear because I think you might enjoy it as much as I do. There is a new mash-up going around where an industrious person combined the Nine Inch Nails song Head Like A Hole with Carly Rae Jepsen‘s Call Me Maybe … the result is a new song titled Call Me A Hole. Now, mashing-up these two songs may not sound like the best idea … until you hear it … then you realize that it’s the best idea ever known to man. Click below, take a listen and fall in lurve. More »
"With eyes like sky / Eyes like I've never seen"
Damn … Frank Ocean is a musical genius, like, for real. A previously unreleased Ocean song titled Eyes Like Sky, that was inexplicably left off of Frank‘s debut album Channel Orange, made it’s way to the Internets this weekend and shows us just how talented a songwriter the man truly is. Click above to hear Eyes Like Sky and marvel at a song so beautiful that you have to wonder how it didn’t make the final album cut. Man, if Eyes Like Sky is representative of other Frank Ocean songs that have yet to be released then … we might be missing out on some of the best music we’ve never heard.
Popstar Demi Lovato may be back to judge another season of The X Factor this year but until she finds out, she plans on moving forward with her music career … which is very good news for us. Demi has a new album on the way and has been teasing the release of a new single titled Heart Attack for the past couple of weeks. Today, we get to hear the song in full. Much like Demi‘s previous hit Give You Heart a Break, Heart Attack is upbeat and poppy … perfect for dancing to. Hear the song in full above and see what you think. Demi is making a serious play to win her way into our pop hearts … do you think she’s got what it takes?
Another Collab For K-Dot
Sigh. I’ve been waiting for this mash-up to happen… and I didn’t even know it, lol. Yesterday we got to check out Kendrick Lamar‘s new music video (with Drizzy Drake) for Poetic Justice, and now we’ve got some new K-Dot with Emeli Sandé. I’m starting to see a trend here! Dido, ZZ Ward, and Lady Gaga have all teamed up with Kendrick, and now British sensation Sandé is jumping on board. I love it! Kendrick is featured on the remix to her hit single Next To Me, and I think it’s a good look for both artists. Peep the audio above for more! And check out the lyrics to this one over at DirectLyrics.
