Because, Why Not?
DVD box sets for TV shows come with all sorts of fun extra footage. Behind the scenes videos, on set interviews, rapping over the theme song … wait, what? Yes, that’s right, for the Game of Thrones season 2 DVD set, the young actors on Game of Thrones bust a rhyme over the GoT theme song. Click above to hear Maisie Williams (who plays Arya), Sophie Turner (who plays Sansa) and Isaac Hempsted Wright (who plays Bran) put their own spin on the GoT theme song. It’s cute, take a listen ;)
"Alright, Listen Y'all"
Earlier today we got to hear the first new David Bowie song in about 10 years and right now we get to hear new music from another music legend who also recently released a new song. Prince is seemingly back with new music for 2013 with the cryptic release of a new song titled Same Page Different Book. The song was released via Twitter on an accounted named @3rdEyeGirl (“As promised… bootlegs 4 dayz”). It’s unclear if the song is an official release or if it’s a leak but … my gut tells me it’s an officially sanctioned viral leak of a new song that might prove to be a prelude to a new Prince album. Click above to hear the funky song in full and see what you think. I love it, it’s a really fantastic new jam. I really hope we get a new album soon … one can never have too much Prince music in one’s life.
After a 10 Year Hiatus, Bowie is Back with New Music
Completely out of nowhere, and on his 66th birthday, David Bowie released a new single and music video titled Where Are We Now?, the first from his just-announced forthcoming album titled The Next Day. It’s been 10 years since Bowie released any new music so, obviously, we were all caught unawares. As soon as the single was released, social media exploded with the news. Click below to watch the music video for Where Are We Now?, check out the single and album art for Bowie‘s new single and album and find out what other songs will be featured on The Next Day, due out in March. New Year, New Tim And Missy!
Back in September we heard two new Timbaland-produced tracks from Missy Elliott, and so began the long-awaited celebration of Missy‘s return to the music world. Timbaland just released his new song Party Anthem, and he’s got Missy, T-Pain and Lil Wayne on the track. I love the beat, but at first I wasn’t sure if Party Anthem was the right title. It’s got a great sound, but it’s also a little laid-back. However, by the end of the song I could kinda hear this getting a few parties amped up– especially Missy‘s opening. Peep the audio above for more! Your thoughts? If Weezy hadn’t sounded like he was rapping through an ish-load of blunt smoke, I might have enjoyed his verse too. Luvya Weezy!
P.S. Yes, I’m also distracted by the Youtube video uploader’s misspelling of Wayne.
"All my bad bitches do it"
Just a few days after we heard from rapper Azealia Banks about how “tacky” rap music is, homegirl goes and drops a new song on us. Last night, right around the time that New Year’s Eve was starting up, Azealia released a song titled BBD for our listening pleasure. According to the rapper, BBD is NOT the first single from her forthcoming debut album Broke with Expensive Taste. In a series of tweets, she reveals the title of her soon-to-be released first official album single and then she unveiled the lyrics to this just-released freebie. Demi Does It Better?
Demetria Devonne Lovato, better known to the world as Demi Lovato, was among the featured performers at this year’s Christmas in Washington concert and for her performance, she delivered her own rendition of Mariah Carey‘s massive holiday hit All I Want for Christmas Is You. Now, Mimi does a damn fine job singing her own song …. but Demi kinda slays herself. Check out the video above and see what you think.
Look. I know trap music isn’t for everyone. Nor is Chopped & Screwed. But Harlem’s own A$AP Rocky just teamed up with Skrillex and I can’t… not… share! The bummer news for A$AP is that his whole damn debut album Long.Live.A$AP just leaked to the interwebs, a whole month before its release date. That sucks. However, I’m really glad we got to hear this new jam. The electronica/dubstep-meets-trap sound is totally doing it for me. Ya’ll know I love me some Frank and I’ve been digging a lot of the new music we’ve heard from artists like Solange and Miguel… but I’ve been waiting for A$AP‘s debut since this summer! Anyway, I have serious plans to sip on something nice this New Year’s Eve and blast this song. After the kids go to sleep, lol. Peep the audio above (before it gets snatched off line)! Your thoughts?
UPDATE: Yeah, it got snatched. You can still listen to the song here!

"I know what a fool I've been"
It’s almost Xmas 2012 and by now I’m sure y’all have been inundated with the crush of happy Xmas music everywhere you go. Welp, you’re about to hear another Xmas song right now … but this time, the song isn’t very happy. Earlier this morning, on Fearne Cotton‘s Radio 1 show in the UK, The xx performed a live cover of the classic Wham! Xmas song Last Christmas … which you can listen to in full below. Last Christmas was a pretty decent hit for Wham! back in the 80′s and it has survived as a perennial Xmas favorite … despite the fact that the lyrics are pretty depressing. Click below to hear The xx‘s take on the track and see if it gets you in the holiday spirit. More »
