9 Films Compete for 'Best Picture', 'Hugo' Leads the Way with 11 Noms
The nominations for the 84th annual Academy Awards were just announced here in Hollywood and while a lot of the films that have been getting lots of love at other awards shows also scored Oscar noms, there are a few surprises in this new crop of Academy Award nominations. The Artist, the film getting all of the buzz lately, managed to nab 10 nominations but the Martin Scorsese film Hugo (which has gotten almost NO buzz from the public at all) bested it with 11 nominations — including one for Best Picture. The new Oscar nomination rules that went into effect a few years ago make it possible for anywhere between 5 and 10 films to be nominated for Best Picture … this year, there are 9 films up for the biggest prize — The Artist, The Descendants, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, The Help, Hugo, Midnight in Paris, Moneyball, The Tree of Life and War Horse. Click below for more about this year’s Oscar noms and find out if your fave films/actors managed to get a nomination this year. More »

'The Artist' & 'The Descendants' Win the Big Film Awards, 'Homeland' the Big TV Award
Madonna wasn’t the only Golden Globe Award winner last night … a whole host of other folks were honored with awards in both film and television. The show itself, I gotta say, wasn’t nearly as entertaining as last year’s show. By all accounts, host Ricky Gervais did not perform as successfully this year as he did last year … and I think that fact had a huge impact on the show overall. A lot of my fave actors won this year (Jessica Lange, Meryl Streep, Madonna) as did some of my fave TV shows (Homeland, FTW!) … but I think the French silent film The Artist was the biggest winner of the night. Click below to see some photos from the red carpet arrivals, read some deets about the show itself and see some happy folks holding their shiny new Globes in the press room last night. More »

In Celebration, She Spills New Deets About Her Album 'M.D.N.A.'
Popstar Madonna, who spent all last week promoting her new film W.E. and her new album M.D.N.A. in interviews both here in the US (on ABC News) and in the UK (on The Graham Norton Show), was in attendance at the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards last night. Maddy was nominated for Best Original Song for her ballad Masterpiece (from her directorial debut film W.E.). Altho Elton John bitchily commented before the show that Madonna didn’t have “a fucking chance” at winning, Madonna DID win the award … over Elton John … who lost. After Elton‘s loss, his hubby David Furnish had bitchy things of his own to say … on Facebook. LOL! In the press room, Madonna (with Golden Globe in hand) was asked a host of questions … including questions pertaining to her upcoming new album. Click below to hear what she had to say about M.D.N.A. Like B-Jay, Like Daughter
There is an old adage that says, The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree … which means, many children (either for good OR bad) usually emulate or follow in their parent’s footsteps later in life. At just 4 days old, Blue Ivy Carter — the firstborn child of Beyoncé and Jay-Z — is ALREADY following in her parents’ hit-making footsteps. Billboard magazine reports that newborn Blue Ivy is the youngest person ever to appear on any Billboard magazine music chart. As you may recall, Jay-Z released a song titled Glory just 2 days after baby Blue was born and that song features the baby girl “performing” on the track. Just 2 days after the song was released, it hit #74 on Billboard‘s R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart. More »
