In The Nicks Of Time

The TV Guide

Last night I had the great honor of FINALLY seeing one of rock’s most amazing female musicians live in concert and the only think I could keep thinking throughout the entire show was … what the Hell took me so long to see Stevie Nicks live in concert?! If you can believe it, I managed to score a front row center balcony seat yesterday morning, the day of the concert. I’ve always wanted to see Stevie live but for various reasons, I never actually did. Last night Stevie performed an album release party on her 63rd birthday … and put on a show that I will never forget. More »

Prince Turns The House Of Blues Into The ‘House Of Funk’

The TV Guide

So … I had a very long night/morning today … and am alive and functioning to tell the tale. As I mentioned yesterday, last night David and I attended the 8pm performance of the stage play God of Carnage and then I attended a 2AM concert performance by Prince in the intimate Foundation Room at the House of Blues in West Hollywood, CA. I’ll post my review of God of Carnage shortly but the Prince show, man, what an incredible night. More »

Vegas, Baby!

The TV Guide

Yesterday afternoon, David and I made our way to Las Vegas, NV for a couple of days primarily to see Kylie Minogue end her Aphrodite Live 2011 North American tour at the Colosseum inside Caesar’s Palace Hotel and Casino last night. We are staying at the absolutely FABULOUS Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas Hotel and Casino and have been having the time of our lives. I”m not a big LV fan, but our accommodations have more than made up for my previous preconceived notions about Sin City. More »

Goddess Kylie Minogue Blesses The Hollywood Bowl With ‘Aphrodite Live’

The TV Guide

Last night Kylie Minogue brought her Aphrodite Live 2011 Tour to the Hollywood Bowl here in SoCal and she managed to WOW absolutely every single person in attendance. David, Darion and I were lucky enough to attend last night’s show and we had THE time of our lives. Because David and I saw the larger, water-filled Les Folies-version of her tour in Berlin, Germany last March we were well prepared for last night’s performance … but seeing Kylie‘s show under the shell at the Hollywood Bowl was absolutely magical. Check out some photos from last night’s performance below. More »

Ms. Lauryn Hill Brings The Funk To Pomona, CA

The TV Guide

Last night, David and I made the trek East to Pomona, CA to see Ms. Lauryn Hill (her professional name these days) live in concert. After taking many, many years off from her music career after the release of her sole album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill back in 1998, it would appear that Ms. Hill is working on a comeback. Lauryn played the Coachella Music Festival last month and only a handful of dates on her current tour thus far. We found out about Hill‘s SoCal concert stop at the very last minute and were lucky enough to snap up tix for the show. While there were a few problems with her performance, I’d say all in all that she is still an excellent singer and an exciting performer. More »

A ‘Berry’ Good Time With Prince

Last night was my 8th show of Prince‘s 21 Nite Stand concert residency at the Forum in Inglewood, CA (my 10th overall if you count the two shows at the Troubadour last Wednesday) and, not to sound like a broken record, it was another fantastic show. Having seen so many shows already, I have a pretty good idea for how the shows will turn out by now … but hearing the audience explode with ecstatic glee each and every night is an absolute thrill and a privilege. I went to the show last night with my friends Josh, Essly and Garrett and we had a blast! More »

A Wonder-ful Night With Prince

The TV Guide

Last night I attended my 7th show of Prince‘s 21 Night Stand concert residency here in LA (not counting the 2 intimate shows I saw at the Troubadour in West Hollywood, CA last Wednesday) and I can only tell you that the shows keep getting better and better and BETTER! One of my fave new musicians, Janelle Monáe, opened for Prince last night and as if that wasn’t enough to make the night extra special … Detroit’s own legendary Stevie Wonder came out to perform with Prince and the New Power Generation to celebrate his birthday! Last night was truly a Wonderful night ;D More »

Prince Rocks The Troubadour ALL NIGHT LONG

The TV Guide

Yesterday afternoon, seemingly out of nowhere, The Troubadour announced that Prince would be playing two last minute shows in their tiny club Wednesday night. With almost no warning, tickets went immediately onsale for an early 7pm show and a late 11pm show. Because I am totally crazy, I jumped at the chance to get a ticket for the 11pm show … and then had enough time to get a ticket for the 7pm show as well. It turns out that my friend David Russell and his friend Chris were also attending the 7pm show so we met up at the Troubadour to begin what turned out to be one of the most amazing nights of live music I’ve ever seen.
