Reminiscing With Tori Amos

The TV Guide

Over the weekend we got to see photos and hear audio of Tori Amos‘s concert performance at the Bonnaroo Arts & Music Festival in Manchester, TN on Friday night (her only scheduled US performance this year) and came upon a blog that offers the entire performance for download. The site also features bootleg recordings, previously featured on Yessaid.com, of Tori‘s entire Plugged ’98 Tour — the first tour she ever did with a backing band. I was immediately transported back to 1998 … and the 7 Tori Amos shows that I saw that year. Yes, folks, I am a HUGE Tori Amos fan:

I was living in Detroit, MI at the time and I was within driving range of Toronto, Canada, Cleveland, OH, Chicago, IL, Grand Rapids, MI and East Lansing, MI (the cities that were included in my 7 concert Tori tour that year) … and all of the shows I attended are now available for download. Man … that was a great year. I got to meet Tori a few times at some of the meet and greets she did with fans before and after the shows. If you PROMISE not to judge me too hard, check out a photo of what I looked like back in ’98 when I was following Tori Amos on tour — after the jump … More »

The Go-Go’s Cancel Comeback Tour

:(

I’ve got very bummer news to pass along to fans of The Go-Go’s (like me) who were very much looking forward to seeing them on tour this summer on their Happily Ever After Farewell Tour which was announced back in March … the band has issued a statement announcing that the entire tour has been canceled due to injury. Here is the full text of the band’s official cancellation statement:

“It is with great regret that the Go-Go’s announce today the cancelation of Happily Ever After, their summer farewell tour. The tour was scheduled to kick off July 7 at Lilith Fair San Diego, and conclude in Austin, TX on July 27. The band will also be unable to perform live on Good Morning America, scheduled for July 16 in New York’s Central Park. The news comes as a result of guitarist Jane Wiedlin injuring herself after a 20-foot fall while hiking near her home in Northern California a couple of weeks ago. Jane is scheduled for ACL replacement surgery for her knee in the coming weeks, with a prognosis of up to a year recovery time. The band is heartbroken and hopes their fans will send best wishes for Jane’s speedy recovery. In the meantime, tickets can be refunded at point of purchase”.

I am SOOOOOO bummed! I managed to get kickass seats to see The Go-Go’s perform in concert here in LA next month and was really excited to see them all together because I’ve never seen The Go-Go’s in concert. This is just heartbreaking news. I hope Jane is able to recover from her injury, ACL surgery is very serious business. The way that this statement from the band is worded, it seems unlikely that the tour will be rescheduled. Maybe the band will give it one more try next year? It’s impossible to know right now. All we do know is that no one will be seeing The Go-Go’s on tour this Summer … which totally sucks ;(

Sometimes It ‘Snow’s In June

The TV Guide

Last night my good friend Jordan and I got together for a sumptuous sushi dinner at his place before we made our way to The Henry Fonda Theater to see Miike Snow live in concert:

I’ve been a pretty big fan of the band for some time now so I was very excited to see them perform live. I had heard mixed things about their live performances so I wasn’t sure what to expect … but I did know that I was very excited, come what may. After the jump, check out some of the photos I snapped at last night’s Miike Snow concert … More »

Robyn & Kelis Announce The ‘All Hearts’ Co-Headlining Tour

Double Trouble

Hold on to your hats, y’all!! Swedish pop star Robyn and R&B songstress Kelis have decided to join forces and hit the road this summer on a co-headlining tour called The All Hearts Tour! The ladies will get the party started here in LA on July 23 at the Henry Fonda Theater (tix for which I managed to secure earlier today). Here are some deets from the press release announcement of The All Hearts Tour so YOU can plan to see this amazing show when it comes to your neck of the woods this Summer:

Robyn and Kelis will kick off a North American co-headlining tour on July 23rd at The Music Box in Los Angeles. The two recently exchanged tweets about the outing, deciding to name it the “All Hearts” tour. Robyn and Kelis have selected UK sensation Dan Black and Far East Movement, Robyn’s Cherrytree Records label mates, to kick off the festivities. Black was named as one of the Top 15 rising music stars on the BBC’s “Sound of 2009″ list and heralded in the States for his recent solo debut, UN, and its smash single/video, “Symphonies.” Far East Movement, who were recently handpicked by Lady Gaga as support, will open with their kinetic brand of hiptronica music and preside over the breaks between performers with a live version of their FM Cherrybomb DJ Spin-off, which airs Saturdays at 9 p.m. PDT at CherrytreeRadio.com. The tour will conclude at New York City’s Webster Hall on August 5th. Both Robyn and Kelis have received stellar reviews for their latest offerings. “Genius… she’s still ruling the school,” NME said recently of Robyn’s Body Talk PT 1, her new album, which is scheduled for release on June 15th. Pitchfork.com named it “best new music” earlier this week in an 8.5 out of 10 review. A mix of cool electronica, heartfelt pop and tracks that have all the hallmarks of becoming classic club and radio hits, Body Talk PT 1 is the follow-up toher self-titled 2007 album, which produced the international No. 1 smash single “With Every Heartbeat” and the Top 10 hit “Be Mine.” “Dancing On My Own,” the lead single from Body Talk PT 1,is streaming now at www.robyn.com. While in North America, Robyn will also perform at the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago, Montreal’s Osheaga Festival and the first-ever Disco Lemonade: Summer Mashup Festival in Toronto. Kelis’ Flesh Tone, described by The New York Times as “one of her strongest records yet,” came out recently in the U.K., where early reviews have been remarkable, including 5 stars from Glamour, 4.5 stars from NOW Magazine and an 8 out of 10 rating from NME. It appeared on spin.com’s list of “25 Summer Albums That Matter Most” … Flesh Tone will be released by will.i.am Music Group/Interscope Records in the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand on July 6th. It will be available for pre-order on the iTunes Store beginning June 15th. First single “Acapella,” which hit No. 1 on the Billboard Dance/Club Play Songs Chart and Music Week’s Pop Club Chart in the U.K. earlier this year, will be followed by “4th of July (Fireworks).” Kelis is known for such hits as “Caught Out There,” the Top 5, GRAMMY®-nominated “Milkshake” and “Bossy,” a million-selling ringtone. Fans can check out “Acapella” and “4th of July (Fireworks)” at iamkelis.com.

This has to be the BEST news ever. Both Robyn and Kelis will be releasing amazingly exciting new albums this Summer and now we will get to hear those new tracks performed LIVE on stage … on the same night! I’m very glad to hear the tour is a co-headlining one … that means both ladies will play full show sets. I honestly can’t think of a better pairing than Robyn and Kelis … I am so excited!! I’ll be there for sure on opening night … trust me, you’re gonna wanna get tix for this tour should it come to your city. This just might be the best tour of the entire Summer!

A Reserved Rihanna Rocks Tel Aviv

Skimps Israeli fans on the skimpy outfits

Yesterday we saw photos of Rihanna touring some sacred sites in the Holy Land of Israel as well as a couple photos of Ri Ri relaxing in the pool at her hotel in Tel Aviv. Today we get to see a few photos of Rihanna on stage at Bloomfield Stadium performing in front of thousands of fans last night. As you can see from the following photos, it appears that Ri Ri decided to tone down her racier outfits for last night’s show in Israel:

R&B singer Rihanna has performed in Israel for the first time. Rihanna’s concert on Sunday night is part of her Last Girl on Earth European tour. Audience members had to participate in four hours of volunteer activity in order to receive tickets to the show at the Bloomfield Stadium in Tel Aviv. About 10,000 fans received tickets to the concert. The star spent the weekend before her show touring in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. On Saturday night she helped Scouts and volunteers in Tel Aviv to paint the walls of their meeting center. In Jerusalem, she visited the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the Western Wall, where she put a note between its cracks.

Despite the fact that Rihanna left her skimpiest outfits in her dressing room, I understand she still put on a fantastic show. After the jump, check out video or Rihanna closing out her show in Tel Aviv last night with her biggest hit ever … More »

Whitney Houston Has Got ‘Nothing But Love’ For Germany

Keep on truckin'

Last month we learned that after a few delays, Whitney Houston successfully kicked off the European leg of her Nothing But Love World Tour. Today we check in with our dear Whitney and learn that this week we brought her show to Germany. Here are photos from Whitney‘s concert stop Wednesday night at Konig Pilsener Arena in Oberhausen, Germany:

I bet some of y’all had forgotten that Whitney is on tour. I had not … and I’m thrilled to see that she is still truckin’ along, bringing her show to sold out audiences around the world. I understand this particular show in Oberhausen was quite a hit … Whitney was treated to more than one standing ovation. I can’t be entirely sure but it sounds like Whit Whit may have finally hit her stride. There still have been no official announcements about Whitney bringing her Nothing But Love World Tour to the US (just yet) but I’m hopeful we’ll get to see her live on stage here at home sometime this year. Keep doing your thang, Whitney!

Christina Aguilera Posts A Message About The Postponement Of The Bionic Tour

"I promise to come see you when the time is right!"

Yesterday we learned that sad news that the planned Bionic Tour, which was meant to take place this Summer in support of Christina Aguilera‘s new album of the same name, has been postponed until next year (despite the fact that tickets for some of the tour dates had already been sold) and today we hear from Xtina herself about the tour postponement. Aguilera posted a message on her official website written to fans explaining why the tour had to be canceled … here is the full text of Xtina‘s new message:

Dear fans,

I made the decision to move my summer tour and I am truly sorry to those of you who had purchased tickets and have been disappointed by the news. Immediately after wrapping production on Burlesque, I went directly back into the studio and then quickly started the promotional process for Bionic. With both the album press and film press I am booked the entire summer and need time to focus on the work at hand. After reviewing the schedule with my team, I realized there was not enough time to put together and rehearse for a proper show, one that is at the caliber you expect from me or at the level I would present to my fans. In addition, my album has not even been released as yet and I would like for you all to become familiar with the music before you hear it live on tour. Again, I am sorry to have to move the dates but I promise to come see you when the time is right!

I look forward to seeing you all on the road soon enough to get BIONIC…

With love,

C/X

As I mentioned yesterday, I can appreciate the need to postpone this ill-conceived tour so that a proper show can be put together but I just wish the decision to cancel this year’s shows could’ve been made before the tickets went on sale. Ticketmaster/Livenation is notorious for not fully refunding all the fees incurred from ticket sales. Fans who paid service and handling fees for the tickets will now have to eat those costs because of this cancellation. I do commend Xtina for addressing her fans directly on the matter, tho. I don’t know that it will necessarily please everyone but at least it’s something.

Christina Aguilera Postpones Her 2010 Tour

She'll be seeing you in 2011

Bad news, Christina Aguilera fans … it looks like you’re gonna hafta wait a while longer to see your girl live on stage. Altho thousands of tickets have already been sold for Xtina‘s planned Summer tour in support of her new album Bionic, the decision has been made to cancel this Summer’s dates and move the entire tour to 2011. The reasoning? “Prior commitments”. Um, what? Read on …

Christina Aguilera, who was set to tour in support of her highly anticipated new album “Bionic” alongside Leona Lewis, has pushed back the tour a year. In a statement from Live Nation, Aguilera announced the summer tour has been moved to 2011 due to prior commitments she had to make for promoting the album, set to hit stores June 4 and her upcoming film debut, “Burlesque,” which is slated for a November release and co-stars Cher. “The singer felt she needed more time to rehearse the show and with less than a month between the album release and tour date this wasn’t possible,” the statement read. New dates will be announced later this year. Refunds for tickets to Aguilera’s Aug. 19 show at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine are available at point of purchase. Aguilera is slated to perform at the MTV Movie Awards on June 6.

Yes, all of this makes sense … but why wasn’t any of this lack of time taken into consideration BEFORE the tour was announced and tickets went on sale? I managed to score some sweet tix for the August 19th show and now I have to go thru the hassle of getting a refund of my money. Altho annoying, I guess it’s better than Xtina put her tour on hold so that she can take the time to work up a spectacular show. I guess we’ll just have to wait until next year to see the Bionic woman in action on stage.
