After a quiet night in last night, I’m ready to go back out into the world today. A few weeks ago, I snagged tickets to see All American Rejects play the first of a series of acoustic concerts at the Hotel Café in Hollywood, CA and tonight’s the night. I’ve been a fan of the power pop stylings of these Oklahoma City boys since they made their debut in the early ’00s and I’m excited to see them play an acoustic show tonight. It shall be a blast. Last night I attended the first of two Lana Del Rey concerts at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery and I am happy to report that it was a practically perfect show in every single way. The last time I saw LDR, she played a show last spring in the truly awful Shrine Auditorium and while I enjoyed her performance, the always terrible venue was enough to mar the experience. LDR in a cemetery is the way life is supposed to be. My only complaint about the show was how short it was … but for the time that Lana was on stage doing her thing, the night was pure bliss. More »

Flash in the Pan-ties
After her Asian tour got off to a rocky start vocally earlier this month, Mariah Carey quickly got her groove back and proceeded to slay audiences nightly on The Elusive Chanteuse Show. Today we learn, tho, that Mimi suffered a new problem during a show in China last weekend that had nothing to do with her singing ability. MC suffered a bit of a wardrobe malfunction when her super short skirt hiked its way up high enough that she gave a full flash of her panties while on stage. Whoops! More »
'Como La Flor'
The group HAIM ended their Days Are Gone Tour in Mexico City, Mexico last night and during their set they paid homage to the late Tejano music superstar Selena with a little sing-a-long with the audience. The HAIM sisters led the audience in an a capella rendition of Selena‘s massive hit song Como La Flor, must to the crowd’s delight, I’m sure. Click above to watch video of HAIM‘s tribute to Selena and I dare you not to sing along :D
They also performed 'You've Got to Hide Your Love Away' by the Beatles
Video has surfaced from a Pearl Jam concert that took place last week on what would’ve been the late John Lennon‘s 74th birthday. To mark the occasion, the band performed two songs in honor of John Lennon at their concert stop in Nebraska last Thursday. Click the embed above to hear a beautiful rendition of Lennon‘s peace anthem Imagine … then click below to hear a more rousing rendition of the Beatles song You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away. More »
She don't need no Iggy Azalea
Charli XCX is currently on tour and for the encore of her show, she performs the song she wrote for Iggy Azalea which catapulted her to pop stardom — Fancy. As you can see above, Charli performs a version of the song all by herself … she even performs Iggy‘s part by singing over the backing track. In a perfect world, Charli XCX would be the one that everyone is going crazy for, not Iggy Azalea but … we do not live in a perfect world … so we have to settle for little wins where we can get them. I am seeing Charli live in concert here in LA in a couple of weeks and I can’t WAIT to watch babygirl slay me to death with her performance. Iggys need not apply.
No vocal problems here
A few days ago, we watched painful video of pop star Mariah Carey struggling a few times to stay on key and hit her trademark high notes on the opening night of her new concert tour The Elusive Chanteuse Show. Today we get to see newer video of Mimi sounding back to her usual, flawless self in new live performance video shot by fans. The embed above features Mariah‘s performance of Fantasy in Yokohama, Japan and as you can hear, she sounded great! Yes, Mimi had vocal problems on the opening night of her tour in Tokyo but clearly, she suffered no such problems at her show in Yokohama. Click below to hear Mimi successfully hit her trademark HIGH notes during her performance of Emotions during her Yokohama show. More »

At last! At long last, I finally got to see Lorde LIVE in concert last night and she was glorious! I managed to snag pit tickets for Lorde’s first of two shows at the Greek Theater here in LA and I treated my good friend Eileen to the show for her birthday. We have been anxiously awaiting last night’s show for months so we were really anxious all evening long. Eileen came to my place and I was able to give her a quick tour of my place before we made our way to Mess Hall for a quick pre-show dinner. Then we were on our way to the Greek to see Lorde. The show was so good. It was well worth the wait. More »

Sorry Lambs, this video is REALLY tough to watch :(
Back in August we learned that Mariah Carey, amidst major personal problems, would be touring in Asia in support of her newest album Me. I Am Mariah … The Elusive Chanteuse and in September, we saw photos from her tour rehearsals for The Elusive Chanteuse Show. Over the weekend, Mimi kicked off her tour in Tokyo, Japan and as the video above painfully shows, she suffered a lot of vocal problems throughout her entire performance Saturday night. The video is tough to watch, I have to admit, but if you’re curious, click the embed above to hear Mimi struggle to hit her trademark high notes and have difficultly staying on key … among other problems. Ugh. I love Mariah so much … this is just really hard to watch. I sincerely hope these problems were just a few errant mistakes and not a sign that her tour ahead will be a bona fide disaster. OOF!

Last night I made the 1 1/2 drive up to Santa Barbara, CA to see Ryan Adams live in concert and it was one of the better decisions I’ve made all year long. It had been a few years since I’ve seen Ryan in concert and I almost opted out of seeing him live this time around. Ryan is one of my favorite singer/songwriters and I’ve been going to his shows for many years now. In recent years, tho, it has been a bit painful to listen to Ryan‘s music and the thought of seeing him live has stung me for longer than I care to admit. Where music is concerned, my ex and I didn’t really share much of the same interests (if truth be told, his taste in music is generally pretty horrible) but the music of Ryan Adams was one thing that was pretty important to the both of us and, sadly, I’ve been avoiding Ryan Adams ever since my break up. I decided I would not sacrifice my love for one of my favorite musicians for anyone … and I’m happy to share that last night’s concert was really wonderful and really healing for me. More »
