Last night I made my way to the El Rey Theater to see Juliette Lewis‘s band Juliette and the Licks live in concert. Last night’s show was the first the band has played since they broke up back in 2009. I managed to see Juliette and the Licks way back when I was still living in Detroit and I remembered how great the show was so when my friend Austin let me know he had an extra ticket, I knew I had to see the show. Honestly, the band’s brand of Southern Rock music isn’t really my thing but Juliette Lewis is such an amazing live performer that she made last night’s sold out performance a truly memorable experience. It really was a really great show. More »

After my whirlwind trip to San Diego for Comic-Con this weekend, I hopped a train back to LA late yesterday afternoon so that I could get home, get changed and get my buns to the El Rey Theater to see Veruca Salt play a live concert — ON MY BIRTHDAY. I was really thrilled to see Veruca Salt play the first date of their new tour on Wednesday night in San Diego but I’m telling you, the band was on FIRE last night. OMG. So good. The band was great, the audience was great, the setlist … The Muffs opened … it was, honestly, one of those perfect concert nights that I live for. The ’90s were back in full swing and I am so happy that I was able to be a part of it. More »

As some of you know, I celebrated my Dirty Thirty with an amazingly wonderful, restful, and glorious solo vacation in New Orleans. The trip was a gift from my partner in babymaking, he made sure to set me up in a gorgeous hotel, because that is a thing that I am into. The Renaissance Pere Marquette did me good, and now I just want to go back. Like, right now—especially after seeing these photos of Nicki Minaj‘s hotel in Italy. This is just… totally unfair. Veruca Salt, one of the most important bands of the 1990s and absolutely one of my fave bands of all time, kicked off their new tour in San Diego, CA last night at the super tiny Soda Bar. Because I wasn’t planning to go to San Diego Comic-Con this year, I figured I’d be able to just drive down to SD, see VS and get back to LA for the rest of the band’s live shows here at home. BUT, since I decided last week to go to SDCC this year, I had to drive down to SD, see VS, drive back to LA then meet up with Darion and get on a train bound for SD all over again today. Yeah. Crazy but so worth it. Veruca Salt was in fine form last night … performing songs from their new album for the first time in front of an audience, along with their classic songs, last night’s tour kick-off concert was entirely amazing. San Diego Comic-Con, the biggest comic-con in the world, gets underway today here in SoCal but because Taylor Swift is currently on tour, it looks like she is going to miss out on all the fun at SDCC this year. Fortunately for her, she managed to enjoy a smaller comic-con backstage at her concert stop in Montreal, Quebec last night. Members of the cast of X-Men: Apocalypse (including producer Simon Kinberg) made their way to Taylor‘s concert last night and posed for a fun photo backstage … which Taylor promptly shared on her official Instagram profile … which you can see below. After far too many weeks away, I finally made my way back down to Anaheim, CA to spend the day with my friends at Disneyland. My social club Sons of Anakin held our monthly meeting so it was the perfect chance to meet up with the friends I hadn’t been able to see for a while. Altho it was insanely hot, I really had the best day hanging out with my friends. But, as the afternoon turned to evening, I had to jet back home to LA to meet up with Eileen at the Hollywood Bowl to see Basement Jaxx in concert. We only learned about the Basement Jaxx concert last weekend when we went to the Hollywood Bowl to see Underworld> live in concert. If last week was the perfect chill techno experience, then last night was the perfect dance party rave experience — under the shining stars of Hollywood. More »

Last night, my friend Eileen invited me to attend a concert at the Hollywood Bowl with a group of her friends and because I always have a great time with Eileen, I was happy to attend. The techno act Underworld were headlining with Jungle as the opening act. Now, I used to be pretty into techno music back in the day (after all, Detroit is the birthplace of techno music) and I am an Underworld fan but, honestly, if it weren’t for Eileen’s invitation, I probably wouldn’t have attended this show. Thankfully, she did invite me because I had a really fun time under the stars at the Hollywood Bowl listening to a live soundtrack provided by Underworld. More »

Last night, for the first time ever, I got to see the legendary punk band The Misfits live in concert. For years, I’ve resisted the urge to see The Misfits live because frontman Glenn Danzig left the band way back in the ’80s and I was really worried that the band would suck without him. The Misfits have played many shows here in LA in recent years and I almost went to see them at the House of Blues but something else came up. When I heard that the band would be performing 3 albums in full over 3 nights of live concerts (Thursday – Static Age, Friday – Walk Among Us & Saturday – Earth A.D.) I knew the time to see the band live had come. I bought a ticket for last night’s show, to hear them perform Walk Among Us in full in concert and I can honestly say, it was one of the better decisions I’ve made all year long. More »
