He Played 2 Tiny Shows Last Night
After Prince wowed the US with his brilliant guest appearance on New Girl Sunday night, His Purple Funkness made his way to the UK to wow the people of London with two intimate concert performances before he announced a month-long concert residency where attendees of his show will only be charged $10 to see him perform with his new band 3rd Eye Girl live in concert. You may recall that Prince did the same kind of thing here in LA a few years ago when he performed his 21 Nite Stand residency at various venues around SoCal. Tickets for those shows were $20 … so Londoners are getting an INSANE bargain on tickets (especially since $10 works out to about £6. Dang. A New 'Trilogy' Tour is Also On the Way!
Great news to pass along for fans of The Cure … Robert Smith and the gang are releasing a new album this year, tentatively titled 4:14 Scream (a clever follow-up play on the band’s last album 4:13 Dream). In addition to a new album, The Cure is also planning to head out on tour again where they will perform 3 of their albums in full at each concert stop. Now, as exciting as this all sounds, I haven’t really fallen in love with The Cure‘s new music but I do love that they keep putting out new stuff and touring … because we will always get to hear their amazing old stuff, too. Last night I made my way to the El Rey Theater to see my first concert of 2014. Earlier in the week, I heard that Filter frontman (and former founding member of Nine Inch Nails) Richard Patrick would be performing on stage with The Crystal Method at their LA show this week so I picked up a ticket so that I could see the performance in person. I’m not a huge fan of electronic music anymore but back in the day, when I was a bit of a club kid, I was really into The Crystal Method. The show was close to my house and was relatively cheap so I decided to make a night of it. While the live show wasn’t really the most perfect concert I’ve ever seen, I had a great time of live music nonetheless. More »
During his concert stop in Greensboro, NC, Jay Z noticed a young fan in the crowd holding up a sign that read Can I Rap For You? Jay‘s answer to the young fan was yes so he brought the 12-year old up on stage and let him do his thing in front of the sold out crowd. You can tell that the little dude was nervous as Hell when Jay handed him the mic but when he started rapping, he delivered a performance that not only impressed Jay Z but also the audience as well. Check out the video above of this talented young man performing a portion of Jay Z‘s song Clique and marvel at the kid in action. Jay better watch his back … with young whippersnappers like this coming up behind him, he may be out of a job soon :)

Last night I met up with Ollie for a single drink in Echo Park which turned into a few drinks which turned into a 3 band concert which turned into a late night meet up with Amelia which turned into a really late night meal on the sidewalk next to a food truck. I wanted to see Ollie for one last hang before I leave for my trip but I didn’t anticipate that it would turn into a whole night extravaganza. That being said, we had a lot of fun all night long and made for an epic last solo hang for us in 2013 :D More »

"Mrs. Carter crushes the BK"
Last night Beyoncé took her Mrs. Carter Show World Tour to Brooklyn, NY to entertain the folks there and among the people in the audience marveling at Bey‘s stunning performance was none other than Madonna herself. Madge took her youngest daughter Chifundo Mercy James to see Beyoncé in concert and ended up having a great time herself. Other folks in the crowd noticed that Madonna was in attendance last night and then Maddy revealed her fandom to her legion of followers on Instagram. At one point, Beyoncé blessed Mercy with a sweet kiss … which, I’m sure, endeared Bey to Maddy even more. Click below to see the photos that Madonna snapped and shared from Bey‘s concert and see a fan shared photo of Madonna milling about with the commoners as Beyoncé ruled the concert stage. More »

Last night I made my way to the Troubadour in West Hollywood, CA to see what looks to be my last concert of 2013. Over the summer, I saw the Aussie band San Cisco in concert at the Echoplex and was very pleasantly surprised by the opening band Small Pools. I was so impressed by the band that I downloaded their EP on the spot. I found out a month or so ago that Small Pools would be playing a headlining show in December and last night was the night. The Troubadour is one of my fave concert venues on Earth so it was really fun getting to see my fave new LA band play a show there. More »

"I’ve never won a Grammy against a white artist.”
Earlier this week, the nominations were announced for the 2014 Grammy Awards and as you may know, Kanye West managed to secure 2 nominations for his album Yeezus. During his concert stop in Phoenix, AZ last night, Kanye shared with his audience what he really feels about his latest Grammy noms. As I’m sure you can imagine, West didn’t really have many positive things to say about the Grammy Award nominations … or the Grammy Awards as a whole. If you’re interested in hearing his thoughts, you can click the embed above to get Kanye‘s take on the Grammys. Be warned, it’s classic Kanye so … yeah, it’s hella pompous, annoying and funny.
