She don't need no Iggy Azalea
Charli XCX is currently on tour and for the encore of her show, she performs the song she wrote for Iggy Azalea which catapulted her to pop stardom — Fancy. As you can see above, Charli performs a version of the song all by herself … she even performs Iggy‘s part by singing over the backing track. In a perfect world, Charli XCX would be the one that everyone is going crazy for, not Iggy Azalea but … we do not live in a perfect world … so we have to settle for little wins where we can get them. I am seeing Charli live in concert here in LA in a couple of weeks and I can’t WAIT to watch babygirl slay me to death with her performance. Iggys need not apply.
No vocal problems here
A few days ago, we watched painful video of pop star Mariah Carey struggling a few times to stay on key and hit her trademark high notes on the opening night of her new concert tour The Elusive Chanteuse Show. Today we get to see newer video of Mimi sounding back to her usual, flawless self in new live performance video shot by fans. The embed above features Mariah‘s performance of Fantasy in Yokohama, Japan and as you can hear, she sounded great! Yes, Mimi had vocal problems on the opening night of her tour in Tokyo but clearly, she suffered no such problems at her show in Yokohama. Click below to hear Mimi successfully hit her trademark HIGH notes during her performance of Emotions during her Yokohama show. More »

At last! At long last, I finally got to see Lorde LIVE in concert last night and she was glorious! I managed to snag pit tickets for Lorde’s first of two shows at the Greek Theater here in LA and I treated my good friend Eileen to the show for her birthday. We have been anxiously awaiting last night’s show for months so we were really anxious all evening long. Eileen came to my place and I was able to give her a quick tour of my place before we made our way to Mess Hall for a quick pre-show dinner. Then we were on our way to the Greek to see Lorde. The show was so good. It was well worth the wait. More »

Sorry Lambs, this video is REALLY tough to watch :(
Back in August we learned that Mariah Carey, amidst major personal problems, would be touring in Asia in support of her newest album Me. I Am Mariah … The Elusive Chanteuse and in September, we saw photos from her tour rehearsals for The Elusive Chanteuse Show. Over the weekend, Mimi kicked off her tour in Tokyo, Japan and as the video above painfully shows, she suffered a lot of vocal problems throughout her entire performance Saturday night. The video is tough to watch, I have to admit, but if you’re curious, click the embed above to hear Mimi struggle to hit her trademark high notes and have difficultly staying on key … among other problems. Ugh. I love Mariah so much … this is just really hard to watch. I sincerely hope these problems were just a few errant mistakes and not a sign that her tour ahead will be a bona fide disaster. OOF!

Last night I made the 1 1/2 drive up to Santa Barbara, CA to see Ryan Adams live in concert and it was one of the better decisions I’ve made all year long. It had been a few years since I’ve seen Ryan in concert and I almost opted out of seeing him live this time around. Ryan is one of my favorite singer/songwriters and I’ve been going to his shows for many years now. In recent years, tho, it has been a bit painful to listen to Ryan‘s music and the thought of seeing him live has stung me for longer than I care to admit. Where music is concerned, my ex and I didn’t really share much of the same interests (if truth be told, his taste in music is generally pretty horrible) but the music of Ryan Adams was one thing that was pretty important to the both of us and, sadly, I’ve been avoiding Ryan Adams ever since my break up. I decided I would not sacrifice my love for one of my favorite musicians for anyone … and I’m happy to share that last night’s concert was really wonderful and really healing for me. More »

"At my concerts, I make sure everybody has as good a time as possible."
So … yesterday we got to see video of Kanye West inadvertently yelling at a couple of wheelchair-bound concert goers in Sydney, Australia and today we get to hear Kanye‘s response to the release and circulation of that video. In case you are unaware, Kanye stopped his concert in Sydney and demanded that every single person in the audience stand up on their feet. He refused to resume the concert until EVERY SINGLE PERSON was standing up. He saw two people sitting down and he kept berating them from the stage until they stood up. He even sent his security detail to go find out why they were still seated after he commanded them to stand and discovered that the people sitting down were doing so because they were in wheelchairs. West performed a show in Brisbane, Aus last night and commented from the stage about the incident … and as you can imagine, he did so in spectacular Kanye West fashion. More »

"STAND UP! STAND UP! STAND UP!"
A few days ago, a story about Kanye West demanding that a pair of wheelchair-bound concert goers stand up during one of his concerts in Sydney, Australia started to make the rounds and, as you can see above, video footage of the incident has finally come to light. As you may have heard, Kanye stopped his concert that night and demanded that every single person in the audience stand up on their feet. He noticed that two people remained seated and he focused on them, demanding that they stand up or he would not continue the concert. It eventually was revealed that the concert goers he was yelling at where confined to their wheelchairs, showing Kanye to be an insensitive ass. The video is really awkward to watch but it does give you a very good understanding for the kind of person Kanye West truly is. Ugh.
In case you missed the original story, you can read about it below. More »

And she killed it, natch
Lorde is currently on a US tour right now and last week she played a show in Philadelphia, PA where she performed a cover of Flashing Lights by Kanye West. As you can see in the fanshot video above, Lorde put her own spin on the track and delivered a brilliant performance of the song (which segued into her own song Bravado). Flashing Lights (from the album Graduation) is one of my fave Kanye songs and Lorde is one of my fave singer so, yeah, I’m living for this cover. I have EXCELLENT tickets to see Lorde when she plays the Greek Theater here in LA next month and I’m SO excited. I’ve been staying away from tour spoilers before I see the show but this Kanye cover is too good not to share. I hope you enjoy.
From their 'On The Run' Tour show
While we wait for official confirmation that Beyoncé is pregs with her second child, let’s turn our attention to B-Jay‘s joint concert venture On The Run which spent the weekend KILLING the game in Paris, France. As you may recall, we learned over the weekend that Bey brought out Nicki Minaj for a special performance of their Flawless remix at the Stade du France. The On The Run Tour shows that took place in France over the weekend were filmed for an upcoming HBO concert special that will air next week … but before we see that special, Bey and Jay want us to watch their just-released short film titled Bang Bang Part One. This short film is the first part of a trilogy of short films that concert attendees got to see on the On The Run Tour. Click the embed above to watch B-Jay get all cinematic and dramatic. Is there nothing this super couple cannot do?
This is the Remix
Early last month, Beyoncé teamed up with Nicki Minaj for a remix of her song ****Flawless that, as you may recall, musically addressed that elevator fight incident that went down between Jay Z and Solange Knowles last spring. Ever since the remix came out, folks have been dying for a live performance of the track by both Bey and Nicki. Last night, at the Stade du France in Paris, Beyoncé brought Nicki on stage for the first performance ever of their Flawless remix during the filming of Beyoncé and Jay Z‘s On The Run Tour which will be broadcast on HBO later this month. The professionally shot performance will come later, for right now we get to see the adequately fan-filmed video above. Nicki comes on stage at the 4:50 minute mark of the video. Enjoy.
