Earlier today we saw video from the kick-off of Janet Jackson‘s new world tour in Vancouver, British Columbia last night and right now we get to see photos from the opening night of her tour. From what I’m hearing, particularly from friends who attended the show last night, Janet was in fine form last night. The setlist, which I am avoiding to keep from spoiling myself before I see her in concert next month, I hear is amazing and her live singing and dancing is practically flawless. I must admit that I’m not super crazy about the MC Hammer pants-look that she is going for in these photos but I can really forgive Janet Jackson most anything. These photos look fun but they are about as much as I’m willing to expose myself to until I see her for myself in concert here in LA. It’s really a great thing to be able to talk about new Janet Jackson anything … she’s back and I hope she never leaves us again. Now, where’s that album, JJ?
'Burn It Up'
After many years away from the music scene, we learned earlier this year that Janet Jackson was not only releasing a new album in 2015 (titled Unbreakable) but that she would also be embarking on a world tour in support of the new music she has been working on in recent years. We are still waiting for the album (due out in “the fall” — no release date has yet been announced) to drop but last night, Janet kicked off her Unbreakable World Tour in Vancouver, British Columbia … much to the ecstatic glee of her fans. We’ve also been hearing that Missy Misdemeanor Elliott has been working on new music after many years away and last night, fans got to hear new music from both Missy and Janet during Jackson‘s tour opening performance (reportedly titled Burn It Up, tho that remains unconfirmed). Watch the fan-shot video above to see how Janet Jackson opened her new tour with a performance of a new song that features Missy Elliott and see, with your own eyes, how the new era of Janet Jackson music got underway. There are LOTS of great photos and videos that are making the rounds from Janet‘s Unbreakable Tour kick-off performance last night so stay tuned for more … but right now, please enjoy this video of Janet Jackson LIVE in concert again. She is coming to your neck of the woods in concert, are you ready?
"Your beauty is beyond compare"
Kelly Clarkson performed a concert in Albuquerque, NM last night and by request performed a cover of the 1973 Dolly Parton classic Jolene, which you can watch in full above. Jolene is the Dolly Parton song that everybody covers so it’s not a big surprise that it was a fan request that Kelly decided to honor. But, just because the song is covered by pretty much everyone doesn’t mean that all of the covers are equal. As is usually the case when she decides to put her own spin on a song, Kelly‘s version of Jolene is exceptional. The song is so sad and poignant and Kelly is able channel those feelings beautifully. Kelly Clarkson‘s tour continues to roll across America, blessing us with these wonderful cover songs. I can’t wait to hear what she has for us next.

Last night my friend Austin and I took a road trip down to Santa Ana, CA to see Jenny Lewis in concert at The Observatory (which has to be my fave concert venue in Orange County). Jenny chose The Observatory as the venue where she ended her Voyager Tour, so the night was a special one for everyone in attendance. I’ve seen Jenny in concert a few times over the past year, both as an opening act for Ryan Adams and during the first leg of The Voyager Tour earlier this year. Getting to see her, one more time, before she goes off to record a new record was a lot of fun, particularly because I got to share the experience with a friend who appreciates music and concerts as much as I do. 'Friends' for life
Taylor Swift performed her 5th and final sold out concert at the Staples Center here in LA last night and, as expected, she brought out a few special guests to help make the night special for the folks in attendance. Among the special surprise guests that Taylor brought out on stage were her real life BFF Selena Gomez and pop star Justin Timberlake — which is cool and all, I have to say, but the really amazing moment of the night came when Taylor brought out Friends actress Lisa Kudrow to perform the Phoebe Buffay song Smelly Cat live on stage. OMG. Last weekend, Taylor brought out Friends stars Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry as special guests during her Saturday night show so it’s clear that Tay Tay is a huge Friends fan (as are we all). But to have Lisa on stage to perform Smelly Cat is just WAY TOO MUCH. I love it! Taylor wisely decided to end her run of sold out Staples Center shows with a bang, and I approve greatly. Check out the video above to watch Taylor and Lisa perform Smelly Cat and have it brighten up your day considerably.
Last night, at long last, I finally got to see Taylor Swift in concert and now I can honestly say that I understand what all of the hubbub is about. Taylor has set a new record for the most sold out nights at the Staples Center here in LA at one time (5 days) and last night was her 4th of 5 sold out performances. I luckily managed to procure a ticket for the show and was able to partake in the celebration with a bunch of very excited Los Angelinos. The show as over the top and really fun, I was very happy to be in attendance. More »
She also performed 'Goodbye Earl' with Natalie Maines & 'Style' with Ellen DeGeneres
Taylor Swift performed her third of five sold-out performances at the Staples Center here in LA last night and as she has on every tour stop of The 1989 World Tour, she brought a few special guests on stage with her. Last night, she invited Alanis Morissette, Natalie Maines of The Dixie Chicks and Ellen DeGeneres on stage as her surprise guests for a set of really fun performances. As you can see in the embed above, Taylor performed You Oughta Know with Alanis Morissette last night. You can click below to watch video of Taylor performing the Dixie Chicks song Goodbye Earl with Natalie Maines and Style with Ellen DeGeneres. More »

Last night, for night 3 of my 7 nights of concerts this week, I made my way down to San Diego, CA to see the amazing Morrissey in concert. Altho I will be seeing him at the FYF Festival here in LA this weekend, I knew that I couldn’t pass up the chance to see Mozzer live in concert all on his own at a semi-local show. Originally, Morrissey was only scheduled to play SD on the night of August 20 — which I couldn’t make because I had tickets to see Shania Twain in concert here in LA (on night 2 of my 7 nights of concerts) — so I was elated when he added a second concert for the 22nd. The show, I can assure you, was so much fun. Moz has changed up his setlist a bit and has added new elements to his live performance which makes this particular show a must-see. I’m SO glad I was able to get down to San Diego to see the man himself in action. More »

Way back in March we learned that country pop queen Shania Twain would be embarking on a farewell tour this year called the Rock This Country Tour as as soon as tickets went on sale for her LA show, I snapped up a ticket. Last night was my chance to see Shania live in concert again and OMG, did I have the best time ever. The last time I saw Shania, I was still living in Detroit, MI … pre-PITNB days. Shania was ruling the world with her Come On Over album and I was pretty hardcore into my NIN/Marilyn Manson/Industrial music phase … which a not-so-secret love for all things Shania. She played the amphitheater in Detroit then-called Pine Knob (now called the DTE Energy Center) and I bought a lawn ticket so that I could hide amongst the masses. With 2 large beers in hand, I whooped and hollered through her whole set and had the time of my life. I was hoping to replicate that same feeling last night here in LA and I’m happy to report that I had as much fun last night as I did all those years ago. More »
