MTV has decided to bring back the celebrity prank series Punk’d and in order to do so, they have to play new pranks on celebrities to be aired on the show. This weekend, MTV tried to pull a prank on Neil Patrick Harris … and they failed. Earlier in the day yesterday, NPH tweeted a photo of his partner David Burtka telling his Twitter followers that they were about to enjoy a day of rock climbing. A few hours later, Neil tweeted that the jig was up … he was WELL AWARE that MTV was trying to prank him on Punk’d (apparently, there was a bear involved). I guess he wasn’t supposed to publicly let people know that he knew he was being pranked, so he deleted the follow-up tweets. But you can still read all of the relevant Punk’d tweets and see the photo he posted below.

Back in November we got to see the first new photo of Mariah Carey back in the recording studio and today we get to see even NEWER photos of Mimi in the studio with her BFF/producer Jermaine Dupri. As you may recall, Mariah‘s work got interrupted recently with the sudden and scary hospitalization of hubby Nick Cannon for mild kidney failure. Now that Nick is out of the hospital and recuperating at home, she can get back to the biz of working on her next album. Jermaine posted a couple photos on his official Twitter profile of he and Mimi in the studio this week — check out the photos and tweets below.

Last August, Gwen Stefani — frontwoman of the band No Doubt — gave us a bit of an update on the recording of the new No Doubt album. In September, the band announced that their new disc would not be ready for release until sometime in 2012. This week, Gwen and the boys posted new photos from inside the recording studio … alerting us to the fact that they are still working hard on their new album which, hopefully, will be out sooner rather than later this year. Popstar Rihanna, who is quite fond of tattoos, went and got herself a few more tattoos recently and decided to share new photos of her new ink on her official Twitter profile. On her knuckles, Rihanna got the phrase THUG LIFE tattooed in seeming homage to the late rapper Tupac Shakur. She also appeared to get a new tattoo on her lower back tho she failed to share a photo of what exactly she got done down there. Kylie Minogue, the Australian Goddess of Pop, shared an amazing photo on her official Twitter profile today that was snapped on the set of a photoshoot session for her new fragrance Dazzling Darling. I am presuming that Kylie is here in LA because she was in town last weekend to see the new Cirque Du Soleil show Iris … but it’s possible she has already jetted off to some far off locale for this particular photoshoot. Kylie looks freakin’ fabulous as ever so this photo is must see. Earlier this week it was reported that actors Jeff Glodbloom and Brian Stokes Mitchel have been cast to play gay dads to Lea Michele‘s Rachel Berry character on Glee. Today we get our first look at Rachel and her two dads as they mug for an impromptu family photo together on the set of Glee. Over the weekend, we learned that Nick Cannon made his first post-surgery public appearance at The BET Honors in Washington DC (with wife Mariah Carey and son Moroccan Scott by his side). Okay, so this post will prolly only really speak to those of you who grew up in the late 70s/early 80s but I used to be a BIG fan of Kristy McNichol and her coming out as gay is just really fantastic news to me. Some of you younger folks may know McNichol from her role as Barbara Weston in Empty Nest (a character that was originated on The Golden Girls) but those of you who remember the 80′s well may remember that Kristy was a fairly big teen star back in the day (she worked primarily on TV — The Bionic Woman, The Love Boat, Family — but she also starred in the film Little Darlings). It’s safe to say that Kristy was one of those young actresses that guys would pin posters of on their bedroom walls … particularly because of her cute tomboy look. To be honest, news of her coming out isn’t really a surprise to me … but I am very happy that she is finally comfortable being open about who she really is.

Good news folks – Mariah has let us all know that things are looking up for hubby, Nick Cannon. He was hospitalized on Wednesday for mild kidney failure, and we reported that Mariah was by Nick’s bedside in an Aspen hospital. Now, doctors are saying that he is in a stable condition with a good prognosis, and will hopefully be discharged within 2 days. Hoorah!
