She bangs! She bangs!
Sarah Michelle Gellar Attends Juicy NYC Flagship Store Opening

Sarah Michelle Gellar was on hand with a few other “it” celebs of the day at the Juicy Couture Flagship Store opening event in NYC earlier this week. Sporting some pretty major bangs and a fur coat that looks liked it was made out of a litter of puppies, SMG was snapped on the pink carpet lookin’ ready for biz:

I dunno how I feel about SMG‘s new bangs. I think they look kinda cute on her but they seem a bit too long? I’m usually of the mind that SMG can do no wrong stylistically so I’m willing to give her the benefit of the doubt on the locks. The fur coat, on the other hand, gets a big poop sandwich from me. Irregardless of what one things about wearing fur on the animal rights tip, I think the look is really old … as in, grandma-looking. The coat she is wearing looks much better in THIS incarnation than it does on SMG. Let’s hope that the coat is actually fur and is merely tacky and not animal cruel ;) Do y’all like the bangs and/or the fur coat?

'Buffy' alum proudly comes out as a gay man
Tom Lenk Comes Out In ‘The Advocate’ Magazine

Actor Tom Lenk, who some of y’all may know from his stint as Andrew Wells on both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, has come out of the closet in the new issue of The Advocate magazine. After a failed attempt to come out publicly on the recently canceled FOX series Do Not Disturb, Tom is talking to The Advocate about his coming out. Here are a few pics of Tom in the mag and a report on his coming out from After Elton:

The latest issue of The Advocate features icon Harvey Milk on the cover, but a minor icon of geekdom, Tom Lenk (who played Andrew on Buffy the Vampire Slayer), also makes news by officially coming out in the issue … It probably doesn’t come as that big of a shock to fans of Buffy that Tom is gay, which probably isn’t fair, as no doubt Lenk is capable of playing a wide-range of characters. Nonetheless, Lenk pinged quite a few gaydars including Buffy creator Joss Whedon, who told The Advocate that Andrew hadn’t been planned as gay, but when Lenk auditioned they decided to take the character that way since “Tom has a bit of a fey thing going on in his persona that, you know, you can’t really deny.” … Lenk says his coming out now was supposed to be timed to coincide with his first television same-sex kiss. The Buffy alum had been cast as the boyfriend of Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s character on Fox’s Do Not Disturb. Alas for Lenk, DNR didn’t make it past its second episode before Fox showed mercy on us all and canceled the sitcom. Lenk also discusses his less-than-pleasant childhood growing up in Camarillo, California, a town north of Los Angeles, where he was “constantly tormented”, how theater was his escape, and how, post-Buffy, he learned his own management company was mocking him behind his back for being less than butch. Despite the setbacks, Lenk stays optimistic about his future. And as Whedon says about Lenk, “He’s very, very f**king talented.” Here is hoping Lenk finds the right vehicle to express that talent.

I have actually been very fortunate enough to know Tom for a couple of years now. We met casually just before I moved to LA and got to know each other very well since that time. He is seriously one of the funniest people I know. While I am very proud of him for stepping forward and coming out so publicly in this way, I’m not at all surprised that he decided to make this announcement in this way. It cannot be easy to consider that coming out as a gay person could greatly impact your livelihood but Tom is a resilient man and I am confident that his talent will outshine the simple matter of his sexuality. Folks who have been reading by blog for years may recall that I have talked at length about how much I love Tom‘s Buffy character Andrew. I still contend that Andrew and Anya (Emma Caufield) are the absolute funniest characters on BtVS. Much props and respect goes out to Tom Lenk for making this brave step out of the closet. I never thought it would be possible to care for my friend more … I guess I was wrong :)

So much awesomeness
Joss Whedon’s ‘Dollhouse’ Gets A New Trailer

It’s been a few months since we’ve been able to see any new footage of Joss Whedon‘s new TV series Dollhouse, which stars Eliza Dushku (who previously featured in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel), but today we get to feast our eyes on a new trailer for the upcoming FOX series. You may recall that the first trailer for Dollhouse hit the Internets back in May … but here are a few screencaps from the latest trailer:

After the first trailer was released, reports began to surface that production on the series was halted so that the kinks could get ironed out in order to ensure the success of the series. By the looks of this new trailer, the show does look like it got revamped a little bit. After the jump, check out the trailer in full …

David Boreanaz Does ‘Draft’ Magazine

David Boreanaz, who famously played the vampire Angel on both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel and currently stars in the FOX series Bones, is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of the beer enthusiast magazine Draft. Here is the mag’s coverphoto:

In the magazine’s coverstory, David reveals a love of “cold blondes”, gives his views on lowering the drinking age and talks about his love of football. Now, I didn’t even know that Draft magazine even existed before stumbling upon these pics of David Boreanaz but I can respect that beer fans might want to have a periodical of their very own. I just like the pictures. After the jump, check out a few pics from David‘s Draft magazine photospread …

So it begins
Bump Watch: Alyson Hannigan

This past Wednesday we awoke to the wonderful news that Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum and current How I Met Your Mother star Alyson Hannigan is pregs with her first child with hubby Alexis Denisof and already the photogs have focused their eye on cutiepie Aly. Here are new pics of soon-to-be mama Hannigan out and about yesterday afternoon with a HUGE smile on her face as she made a beverage run:

At this point, Aly is far from showing any pregs protrusion but I’m sure it won’t be long before she starts bumping out ;) I am happily looking forward to seeing more photos of Alyson at various stages of her pregnancy because the thought of a baby Alyson Hannigan/Alexis Denisof hybrid THRILLS me to no end! Sooooo loving it!!

Aly is going to be a (How I Met Your) Mother
Alyson Hannigan Is Pregs!

OMG! People magazine is announcing the BEST NEWS EVER this morning with their exclusive report that Alyson Hannigan (who currently stars on the hit CBS series How I Met Your Mother but is prolly most beloved for her role as Willow Rosenberg on Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and her husband Alexis Denisof (who you may recall expertly played the role of Wesley Wyndam-Pryce on both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel) have announced that they are going to have their first child next Spring!

Actress Alyson Hannigan is pregnant, her rep Megan Moss tells PEOPLE exclusively. The How I Met Your Mother star, 34, and her husband, actor Alexis Denisof, 42, will welcome their first child this spring. The couple met on the set of Buffy the Vampire Slayer during the 1999-2000 season and were married at the Two Bunch Palms resort near Palm Springs, Calif., on Oct. 11, 2003.

Woot! This is such amazing news!!! To my knowledge, Aly and Alexis will be the first Buffyverse couple to bring forth a child together. Charisma Carpenter, who played Cordelia Chase on both Buffy and Angel, gave birth to a son back in 2003 but she was not married to another Buffy actor ;) Here are a couple pics of Alyson steppin’ out in Santa Monica, CA yesterday with some take-out:

She ain’t sportin’ a baby bump yet but I will happily be on the look-out for new photos of the beautiful mom to be. Alyson Hannigan is not only beloved for her work on Buffy but many folks loved her comedic turn in the American Pie movies and, of course, for her current stint on How I Met Your Mother. This is just the best news and I couldn’t be happier for the parents-to-be. Much, much love and congrats!

Plus, EXCITING 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' news!!!
Watching Mark Wahlberg Is ‘Payne’-Ful

Woot! I have some amazingly exciting Buffy news to impart today but first things first. Yesterday afternon, I met up with Darion on the West Side so that we could take a drive down to Redondo Beach, CA to dine at the amazingly delicious Chick-Fil-A. After we had sufficiently supped, we met up with Kirsten to catch a showing of the #1 movie at the box office, Max Payne. Now, it should be noted that it was not my movie pic (mainly because I am always disappointed by movies based on video games) but we decided to trust Darion on this one … turns out … we shouldn’t've:

I cannot even stress how horrrrrible this movie was. I mean … for an action film, you might expect action but that’s not what you get from Max Payne. The movie is just boring. Bottom line. ZZZZZZZZfest. Mark Wahlberg offers one facial expression the entire film and you spend all of your time trying to figure out what the hell is going on. The confusing story is so boring, tho, that you quickly lose interest and end up just hoping for amazing action scenes with cool special effects. Even then … nothing. Sure there are some FX but they were sparse and, IMHO, pointless. Heroes offers more exciting effects than this movie did. Throw in formulaic story-telling (with the classic villainy that allows the hero to escape and save the day) and you get a pretty worthless movie. I bet watching the video game would be more entertaining. Seriously, I can’t even give it a rating of poop sandwich cuz that would be too kind. Trust me, take a pass on this one. I couldn’t find one redeeming quality. It’s just … bad.

BUT .. the night was not a total wash. Last week, Pink reader John gave me the head’s up that Best Buy is offering free DVDs of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Cast Panel Discussion that was hosted by the Paley Center this past March. You may recall that I was very lucky to attend that panel discussion in person. On John‘s advice, Darion and I popped in to a local Best Buy and, lo and behold, they did have them (on an endcap next to the BtVS DVD box sets). After the movie, Darion, Kirsten and I watched the entire 90 minute DVD — so awesome!

I know there were lots of fans who were not able to get inside for the panel discussion so I’m sure this DVD will be in high demand. My suggestion is to check your local Best Buy as soon as you can to see if they have the DVDs in your town:

The entire panel discussion is featured on this disc … it’s a must see for any Buffy fan. It turns out that my mug made it onto the DVD as well. In a few shots, you can see my profile in the audience:

I never thought I’d be happy to have such a recognizably big nose ;) In any event, Buffy fans should really seek out this DVD. I’m not sure if this Buffy Cast Panel video will be available in any other format … so get it if you can*.

*It’s worth noting that the DVD is Region 1 encoded so it will not play on DVD players outside of North America.

No plans for today … I’m gonna try and get out and enjoy the sunshine. The weather is still very beautiful here in SoCal so I wanna soak it up as much as I can.

Andrew and Darla and Glory, OH MY!
‘Buffy’ Big Bads Reunite At The 2008 Eyegore Awards

Julie Benz, Tom Lenk and Clare Kramer were among the guests at Universal Studios last Friday night for the 2008 Eyegore Awards. The Eyegores celebrate the best in Horror films and this year helped kick off Universal StudiosHalloween Horror Nights. Here is a supercute pic of Tom (who played Andrew of the Evil Trio), Julie (who played vampire Darla) and Clare (who played Hell God Glory) from Buffy the Vampire Slayer on the red carpet together:

To kick off Universal Studios L.A.’s Halloween Horror Nights, press was invited to attend the sixth annual Eyegore Awards, where the best of horror movies gather together and recognize the hottest horror stars around. The event took place at 7:30 on October 3 at Universal Studios. The sixth annual Eyegore Awards was hosted by Corey Feldman (Lost Boys 2: The Tribe, Lost Boys, and the Friday the 13th films), a very wise choice for master of ceremonies. Past recipients of the Eyegore Awards include Patricia Arquette, Rob Zombie, and more.

Julie was on hand to accept an award for her contribution to horror films (she stars in Saw V and on Showtime‘s amazing series Dexter, as y’all know) and Tom and Clare tagged along for the fun. I must admit, nothing warms my heart like a reunion of Buffyverse alums … and these alum chums are so the cutest ever! How amazing do they all look, y’all? Love it!!

Couldn't get any cuter
Sarah Michelle Gellar Makes A New Friend, Gets A New Job

Sarah Michelle Gellar, better known to the world as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, got the hankering to spend some time with her fishy friends at Sea World in San Diego, CA this weekend and managed to get in on the act with one of the performers … check out this supercute pic of SMG with her new dolphin friend:

While this pic is prolly the cutest thing ever, there is more important SMG news to impart. HBO has announced that Ms. Gellar has signed on to appear in their new series The Wonderful Maladys which is set to hit the air next year. That’s right folks, SMG is making a return to the small screen:

Sarah Michelle Gellar is eyeing a return to television with a half-hour project set up at HBO from screenwriter Charles Randolph. Set in Gotham, “The Wonderful Maladys” ensembler revolves around the dysfunctional lives of three adult siblings who lost their parents at a young age. Randolph described Gellar’s character as having “a kind of zealous immaturity — like a drug addict with a to-do list.” Randolph wrote the script on spec last year with Gellar and HBO in mind. HBO recently bought the script and is aiming to shoot the single-camera pilot early next year. Gellar and Randolph will serve as exec producers should the project go forward, along with Brillstein Entertainment Partners. “We’re on a fast track,” said Brillstein CEO Jon Liebman. Gellar has focused on features since “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” ended its seven-year run in 2003. She called the chance to do a series with Randolph, Brillstein and HBO “a terrific next chapter for me” … Gellar and Randolph are repped by Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

I hate to say it but, with the way that SMG‘s movie career has been going since her BtVS days, I kinda knew it was only a matter of time before she made a return to the small screen. Taking on this role for HBO is a good step back to TV for her, I think. She can still be challenged in a way that network TV cannot and isn’t faced with the prospect of carrying the entire project on her shoulders alone. I’m all for this … I can’t wait to get SMG back on TV on a weekly basis again.

Buffy Summers returns from the dead ... again?
Buffy The ‘Animated’ Slayer Lives?

Earlier this month I stumbled upon a 3-minute video on You Tube that showed us what the failed Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Animated Series looked like and I lamented the loss of such a cute idea for such a fun-looking series. Today, there is new hope that Buffy: The Animated Series might not be totally dead after all … apparently, that little You Tube video sparked a fire underneath fans of the animated Buffy and there is new talk that the series might actually make it to air:

“Buffy the Vampire Slayer” has been many things — so much so that creator Joss Whedon jokes, “I got to make a comic book out of the TV show out of the movie out of the T-shirt out of the opera of the song of the bumper sticker of the shoe line that I love.” One of the things he left out in the absurdly long list is an animated series — which was actually in the pipeline once upon a time, and looks to find new life once again. Back in 2002, Whedon and Jeph Loeb came up with the idea of doing an animated version of Buffy that would take place somewhere in season one. “We liked to call it episode seven-and-a-half,” Loeb joked. “It was a much simpler time. Angel had been introduced, but he was not yet Angelus. We could retrofit Dawn as a ten-year-old, so you can really play the older sister gag. Their mom is alive.” And because it was animated, “no one has to grow up.” “Buffy the Animated Series” was meant for a more general audience than just regular Buffy fans — you didn’t need to follow the show religiously to get what was going on. “It was a very simple entry point,” Loeb said. “There is a girl in high school who has been chosen to fight evil, and there’s a great deal of it in her town. Here are her friends, and here is her watcher.” With special effects costs no longer a concern, they were able to do in the animated series what they couldn’t on the regular TV show (and what they do now in the comics). “We could have thousands of vampires,” Loeb said. “They could fight an army of the undead. In the pilot, the vampires raised a dragon, a 120-foot wingspan dragon, and Buffy ends up riding it across Sunnydale, and as it’s shooting fire, she looks down and says, ‘Hey, I can see my house from here!’” With many original cast members such as Alyson Hannigan, Nicholas Brendan, and Anthony Stewart Head aboard to do voiceovers, and Eric Wight aboard to do the animation, you might have thought this would be an easy sell. “We had an opportunity to do something about how animation changes and affects how things look,” Loeb said. “For me, ‘Batman the Animated Series’ drew a line where everything that came after would be compared to this particular show. ‘Buffy’ would have been the next generation of that.” But despite taking it to “every outlet in television” — including MTV — Loeb said, they had little luck. “We’d take to one network, and they’d say, ‘How can we make this more mature?’ Well, do you want more violence? To have the language like it is in the show? To have the actors do the voices so it sounds like the show? We had all that. We would say, ‘This is what we have: big piles of money and gold, and it’s sitting in the street and you can come out and take it.’ They would ask, ‘But you do have copper pans?’ No, we have money, and gold! But they would want copper pans.” Eventually, Fox Family signed on to air the show on Fox Kids — but when that collapsed in a Disney buyout, the show went nowhere. And yet, for some inexplicable reason, a three-minute version of the pilot just leaked to YouTube earlier this month. An online petition just started to get it on the air. Somehow, there’s fresh hope that this project may find a home after all — just as Buffy has found new success as a comic book series. “The best Buffy stories are ones of resurrection,” Joeb said. “Everything still exists — the designs, the scripts. It’s such a ‘no-duh’ project, so why the hell not? All you need is to draw it. Eight years ago, there was no fascination with ‘Family Guy’ or ‘Robot Chicken,’ but there’s an audience now that could drive to it. You can’t stand in the way of pop culture.”

Yes! I love the whole vibe of this new animated series. It’s meant to be cute, it’s meant to be fun … it will allow us to see the Scoobies in a different, more innocent light. I FULLY SUPPORT this new series and I really hope that it will eventually make it on air. After the jump, check out the *very cute* 3-minute You Tube vid (in case you missed it the first time or want to give it a second look) that managed to reignite interest in reviving this animated series …
