This Fall Scholastic Publishing will release a collector’s hardcover edition of the hugely successful novel The Hunger Games and today, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly magazine, we get our first look at the new book jacket artwork. On the standard hardcover and softcover editions of The Hunger Games novels, the same mockingjay image is used … for this new collector’s edition, a new mockingjay image is featured. Back in January I blogged about how much IN LOVE I fell with Patti Smith‘s memoir Just Kids which chronicles her relationship with her best friend and one-time lover Robert Mapplethorpe. It was a book that I relished reading, found terribly enlightening and just really couldn’t put down. Today we learn that they are making a film based on Smith‘s book and before you turn up you nose, Patti herself will be penning the screenplay. So cool right?

Glee star Jane Lynch is readying the release of her first book, a memoir that will hit bookstores in September titled Happy Accidents. Amazingly, Lynch managed to get iconic comedienne/actress Carol Burnett to write a forward for the book. Today we get our first look at the book cover and get to check out the description AND a short excerpt … below.

Author Anne Rice, who’s 1976 novel Interview with the Vampire is being adapted into a graphic novel set for release next year, has announced that she is working on her next novel … which will be about werewolves. For the past few years, Anne has been writing books about angels but it sounds like she is ready to get back into the world of darker supernatural stuff (like the vampires that made her famous over 30 years ago). According to an interview that Anne gave to MTV, this new book will be her take on the werewolf phenomenon. Click below to watch video of her interview.

British journalist and author Greg Palast has posted an interesting article on his official website this week that claims to reveal the alternate ending that author J.K. Rowling wrote for the final Harry Potter novel The Deathly Hallows. According to Palast, he and Rowling are friendly enough that she revealed to him in confidence the other ending she came up with for the final book. He claims that she divulged this other ending to him after he expressed to her his disappointment with the ending that was published in the book (he felt the published ending was too influenced by the eventual movie to follow). While Palast confesses he never saw the typed, hardcopy of this other ending, he claims that he remembers almost precisely what she told him … and now shares it with the world all these years later. Two weekends ago, we learned from David Beckham himself the name of his newborn daughter with wife Victoria Beckham — Harper Seven Beckham. Last weekend, Becks revealed that the inspiration for the name came from Vicki B‘s favorite book To Kill a Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee. Today we learn that sales of Mockingbird have shot up 123% in the UK, presumably because of baby girl Beckham.

Back in April, the very outspoken Morrissey penned a very critical (and public) letter to Queen Elizabeth II but it turns out that that wasn’t the only writing he’s been doing lately. In addition to an entirely new album (which he is having difficulty releasing), Moz has penned his autobiography and, according to a new interview with Billboard magazine, he will be releasing it in December … of 2012! Last week, an announcement was made that a new Harry Potter website called Pottermore was going to be revealed on June 23 … and today is that day! After much speculation by HP fans for the past 7 days, the Pottermore site was updated at midnight with a video announcement from author JK Rowling herself that makes clear what Pottermore will offer fans. Not only will Pottermore offer an interactive place online where readers can experience the world of Harry Potter in a fresh, new way but it will also be the exclusive site where fans can FINALLY purchase e-books and audio books from the Harry Potter series!

Last month we got our first taste of Levi Johnston‘s memoir titled Deer in the Headlights: My Life in Sarah Palin’s Crosshairs and today we get a sample from his babymama Bristol Palin‘s memoir Not Afraid of Life: My Journey So Far. In her book, ghostwritten by Nancy French, Bristol opens up about the romantic way she lost her virginity to Johnston. Apparently there were wine coolers involved. A few weeks ago, a new children’s book was released that caused a bit of a senstation because of its colorful title. The book, Go the Fuck to Sleep, was written by Adam Mansbach and was illustrated by Ricardo Cortés … and that is all well and good.
