Last year British comedian Ricky Gervais hosted the 2011 Golden Globe Awards and did, by pretty much all accounts, an amazing job. What made Ricky‘s hosting performance so spectacular is that he managed to poke fun at pretty much everyone in Hollywood, making the jokes that we all laugh at amongst ourselves but no one in Hollywood really dares to say in public. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, who are responsible for the Golden Globes, were among the very folks who did not appreciate Gervais‘s biting comic stylings. BUT, even they could not deny that Ricky delivered some of the best ratings and reviews that the Golden Globes ever enjoyed. And for that reason, Ricky was asked to host the upcoming 2012 GGs and he gladly accepted.
Yesterday we learned that Eddie Murphy will NOT be hosting the 2012 Academy Awards just hours after it was announced that Brett Ratner was forced to resign from producing the Academy Awards due to making homophobic comments. Today we are hearing from 8 time Oscars host Billy Crystal that he will be “doing” the show next year. Billy shared this information on his official Twitter profile, seemingly announcing to the world that he will be hosting the show next year.
One day after Brett Ratner resigned from producing the 2012 Academy Awards (due to the backlash surrounding his homophobic remarks), intended Oscars host Eddie Murphy has pulled out of his involvement with the Academy Awards. Murphy was named host after Ratner was brought on to produce the show and the men are close friends. It would seem that either Eddie no longer wanted to host the show (unlikely, IMHO) or the Academy didn’t want him to host now that they are rid of Ratner (likely). In either event, Eddie is out … click below to read all the deets about the end of Murphy‘s non-existent Oscars hosting career.
Hollywood producer Brett Ratner will no longer be involved with the production of the 2012 Academy Awards after he made an outrageous homophobic remark in front of an audience of fans. During a Q&A with fans after a screening of his film Tower Heist, Ratner was asked about the rehearsal process when making a film. Ratner scoffed at the question and said “rehearsing is for fags”. Just days later, Ratner issued a formal resignation letter to the Academy removing himself as producer of next year’s Oscars NOT, IMHO, by his choice. The Academy received so much heat for their association with Ratner in the wake of his disgusting comment that I’m *certain* he was forced to resign. Last night, at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland, the 2011 MTV Europe Music Awards were handed out LIVE on local television. While the night was full of performers and winners from around the world, the one person that everyone is talking about today is the nekkid dude who jumped up on stage during the show. While actress Hayden Panettiere was on stage to present an award, a fully nude dude jumped up on stage to interact with her in front of the live cameras. Despite the fact that the guy was fully nekkid (with the bared p33n to prove it), security did NOT remove the man nor did cameras cut away from him … an obvs indication that the stunt was planned and approved by MTV. Wanna see some Irish p33n in action? Check out the NSFW video below.
Ashton Kutcher and Charlie Sheen may have enjoyed a bit of an awkward run-in with one another backstage at the 2011 Emmy Awards last night but comedienne Kathy Griffin and E! News host Ryan Seacrest shared their own awkward moment before the Emmys last night on the red carpet. Kathy, in an effort to shock Ryan, decided to plant a big, fat kiss on his lips … a kiss that Ryan looked like he did NOT want to get. Check out the hilarious video below — be warned, the video autoplays.
Last night, as the best of televisions best convened at the Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles, CA, Entourage star Jeremy Piven was bizzy snapping cell phone photos backstage at the event for his official Twitter profile and he managed to capture a photo of the awkward run-in between ex-Two and a Half Men star Charlie Sheen and his Men replacement Ashton Kutcher. The pair were both on hand at the Emmys last night to present awards and, I believe, it was the first time the men were in one another’s close proximity since their Two and a Half Men casting drama started earlier this year. Click below to check out the awkward photo of the two and no half men.
Wow … what started out as a silly rumor turned out to be … reality. The Motion Picture Academy announced today that comedian/actor/Academy Award nominee Eddie Murphy has been chosen as the host of the 84th annual Academy Awards next year. To be honest, I didn’t place one bit of credence to the rumors that Murphy might get the hosting gig … so I’m a bit surprised. But, now that I know that Brett Ratner is directing the show … it makes sense. To bet honest, I’m not even really concerned with the idea of Eddie as the host … I’m much more concerned that Ratner will be directing. Yikes!!
As I mentioned yesterday, most of my Sunday was all about the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. Altho I chose not to work the red carpet this year, the folks at MTV (and the lovely Tamika in particular, love and thanks to her) still hooked me up with a ticket to attend the show. I had to pick up my ticket pretty early in the day so as soon as I got my work done, I made my way downtown to procure my VMA ticket. I had some time to kill before the actual show so I met up with Ollie for a brunch hang session. By 5pm, I had to get back to the Nokia Theater for the MTV VMA show … and, well, you know how that played out. I did manage to snap some fun photos from my seat inside the theater … which you can check out below.
As you should be well aware by now, MTV hosted it’s annual Video Music Awards celebration last night at the Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles, CA and by pretty much all accounts, the show wasn’t the best one ever. Because there was no host, the entire show felt messy and disjointed. Some of the performances were stellar (Adele and Beyoncé, I’m lookin’ at you), others were less than stellar (take your pick of the rest) and the show overall just didn’t mesh for me. I was happy for some of the award winners (Britney Spears and Nicki Minaj, lookin’ at you) and very disappointed and offended by others (in particular I’m referring to the blatant and unabashed homophobe that I cannot bring myself to even mention by name who won Best New Artist), which left me with an overall feeling of …. malaise over the whole thing. Click below to see some of the photos from last night’s fete and try to focus on the positives with me, ok?
