The Kodak Theater Rolls Out The Red Carpet For The 84th Annual Academy Awards

The Big Day

We are mere hours away from the worldwide live broadcast of the 84th annual Academy Awards — the biggest night in Hollywood — and even less hours away from the point where the first person will step foot on the famed red carpet. This weekend, workers have been toiling furiously to get the Kodak Theater all spiffed up for the big event. As Pink writer Melissa has reminded us, comedian Billy Crystal will be hosting today’s awards show for the 8th time so … I think we pretty much know what to expect from Oscar night tonight. But, before we get to all of night’s big fashions, big awards and big afterparties, let’s take a look at some of the preparations that are taking place still this weekend in Hollywood for tonight’s Academy Awards. Watch: Billy Crystal Hosting The Academy Awards in 1990

Looking Through The 'Crystal' Ball

Out for brunch yesterday with a friend, the conversation naturally turned to Oscars. My friend, Jonny, commented how he could think of 10 people who he would prefer to host the Oscars next year. I thought this would be an interesting question to put to you all. Billy Crystal is back tonight as host of the Academy Awards. This will be his 8th time as host. By now, the 63-year-old comedian is an Oscar host veteran. Is he a reliable, familiar choice who’s beloved and admired or is he outdated? Who would you rather see as host next year? More »

Was This An Academy Orchestrated Publicity Stunt?

The last 2 days has been on ongoing saga about Sacha Baron Cohen… first we heard that he was being barred from attending the Academy Award red carpet if he comes dressed as his character from his new film The Dictator. The day after, Sacha released a response to the academy as General Aladeen, and yesterday we found out that SBC will indeed be walking the red carpet in character as The Dictator and then attending the Oscars show tonight. There is talk now about the whole saga being a publicity stunt for both the SBC film and the academy. There has also now been backlash about the Muslim-Jewish issue it has created…. More »

Viola Davis Takes Her Wig Off For Pre-Oscar Events

What Will She Do For The Awards?

Viola Davis should be preparing for the Oscars tomorrow because she is definitely one of the women up there contending to take home the major actress award. She was nominated for Actress in a Leading Role for her role in The Help and is up against, Glenn Close, Rooney Mara, Meryl Streep and Michelle Williams. Viola has a very strong chance of taking home the golden statue tomorrow night because she has been the big winner so far at all the other award shows. She is a stunning woman regardless of what she wears, and usually Viola pulls together her red carpet look with a wig. Yesterday she stepped out with her hair au natural. Check out the pics… do you think Viola should walk the Oscars red carpet wearing a wig or with her natural, short hairdo? More »

Brits Awards Apologize To Adele For Cutting Short Her Acceptance Speech

Who Apologized To Who?

Yesterday, Trent reported on the news, or non-news, about Adele flipping her middle finger at the Brit Awards after she was cut off during her acceptance speech. While M.I.A’s same action at the Super Bowl proved highly controversial here in the U.S, and the NBC offered a public apology for the rapper’s behavior, over in the U.K they had a very different response. Today, the organizers of the Brit Awards apologized to Adele! More »

Sacha Baron Cohen Might Be Barred From Attending The Oscars For Walking The Red Carpet In Character

'The Dictator' Stir Up The Academy

Sacha Baron Cohen is the mastermind behind film pranks and antics, but now it seems the conservative academy is not a fan. Sacha is due to be attending this year’s Oscars on Sunday night for Hugo, one of the films up for the best picture award. The creator of Borat is also currently promoting his new film, The Dictator which sees Sacha take on a new character, General Aladeen, a political strongman working to ensure that democracy never comes to his oppressed nation. In typical Sacha style, word got out that he was planning to walk the red carpet in character. The academy, anxious about an actor using the Oscars as a publicity stunt, have informed the studio distributing the new film that this would be a “very bad thing to do.” Could they prevent Sacha, the ultimate prankster and character-driven actor from attending the Oscars? And more interestingly, do you think Sacha will take heed of the Academy’s warning or come in disguise anyway? More »

Adele Flips Her Middle Finger At The Brit Awards

Guess What? No Big Deal.

Remember earlier this month when M.I.A. started a shizzstorm of “controversy” by flipping her middle finger during Madonna‘s halftime performance at Super Bowl XLVI? Yeah, well, British singer Adele did the same thing last night at the 2012 Brit Awards and guess what? In the UK, it wasn’t really a big deal at all. Adele was presented with the Brit Award for Album of the Year and when she was cut off by producers while giving her acceptance speech, Adele flipped off “the suits” with her middle finger. While M.I.A.‘s finger flip caused about a week of controversy, I sincerely doubt we’ll hear about this Adele flip past today. Click below to watch video of Adele‘s cheeky finger flash. More »
