Kanye West Ruins Taylor Swift’s Winning Moment At The 2009 MTV Video Music Awards

#KANYEISADOUCHE, #TEAMTAYLOR
Monday, September 14th, 2009

Another MTV Video Music Awards has come and gone and while the focus of the show should be on the touching tribute to the late Michael Jackson by his peer Madonna and his sister Janet Jackson or the coolest performance of the night by P!nk … the focus is, instead, on what an asshole Kanye West is. In true Kanye fashion, West stormed the MTV VMA stage after Taylor Swift won the first award of the night, Best Female Video, after she stunned the audience by upsetting fellow nominees P!nk, Kelly Clarkson, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Beyoncé. As Taylor Swift was accepting her award, Kanye jumped up on the stage, took the mic from her hand and declared that Beyoncé should’ve won the award because she made “the best video of all time”. Taylor looked crushed, hurt and embarrassed and was not allowed to finish her acceptance speech … Beyoncé looked stunned and embarrassed by Kanye’s rant as well. The auditorium booed Kanye off the stage, he flipped off the crowd with his middle finger and then was asked by MTV to leave the show. Here are a few photos of the incident:

The MTV video music awards held on Sunday paid tribute to the late Michael Jackson, but was overshadowed by an outburst by rapper Kanye West, who interrupted an acceptance speech by U.S. singer Taylor Swift. West, who is known for his outspoken ways, jumped up on stage while the 19-year-old Swift was making an acceptance speech for best female video for her hit song “You Belong With Me,” beating out singers including Beyonce Knowles and Lady Gaga. “I am really happy for you,” West said. “But Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time.” MTV said West, who was spotted earlier on the red carpet drinking alcohol, was ejected from an awards show already known for its circus-like atmosphere. West received loud boos from the crowd when his name was mentioned later in the show.

Kanye was seen carrying a big bottle of booze and was asked by MTV to leave the premises shortly after his rant:

Apparently, Kanye decided to go home and blog an “apology” to Taylor Swift for his outburst … but it doesn’t take a careful reading to understand that it’s not an apology at all:

This “apology” has since been removed from his official website. After the jump, check out video of this outrageous insult to Taylor Swift and see how Beyoncé managed to right the wrong a wee bit at the end of the show …

The 2009 Creative Arts Emmy Awards Are Handed Out

'Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog' wins an EMMY!!!!!!
Sunday, September 13th, 2009

The 61st Annual Creative Arts Emmy Awards were handed out in an intimate (ie. small) ceremony held at the Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles, CA last night. Nicknamed the Shmemmies, these Emmy awards are presented in recognition of technical and other similar achievements in American television programming and are commonly awarded to behind-the-scenes personnel such as art directors, costume designers, cinematographers, casting directors, and sound editors. The big winner of the night was Tina Fey, who collected an Emmy award for her amazingly brilliant impersonation of former Alaska governor Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live last year but the surprising winner of the night was Joss Whedon’s creation Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog (which existed online only at DrHorrible.com) which took home the Emmy award for Outstanding Special Class—Short-Format Live-Action Entertainment Program. Here are a few photos from the press room at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards last night:

The big winner at Saturday’s Creative Arts Emmys? Sarah Palin. Tina Fey. The bespectacled funnylady’s spot-on Saturday Night Live spoofin’ of a certain veep wannabe earned her an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress, Comedy. You betcha. “This would not be possible without Mrs. Palin…[who is] an inspiration to working mothers everywhere,” Fey sad as she picked up the prize. She also gave a shout-out to “my parents, who are lifelong Republican, for their patience.” “They thought the first four sketches were very funny and the last two, enough already,” said Fey, who can collect more hardware at next weekend’s Primetime Emmys. Meanwhile, all that booty-shaking with Beyoncé and mother-loving with Susan Sarandon paid off for Justin Timberlake. The former ‘N Syncer claimed the Guest Actor, Comedy statuette for his own SNL stint. Timberlake became the first host in the history of the late-night stalwart to claim that honor. This is Timberlake’s second SNL-spawned Emmy. He previously scored the music category for his infamous “D-ck in a Box” showcase with Andy Samberg. But they weren’t all the big-name winners at L.A.’s Nokia Theatre. Michael J. Fox (Guest Actor, Drama), Oscar winner Ellen Burstyn (Guest Actress, Drama) and SNL alums Jimmy Fallon (Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Media) and Chris Rock (Writing, Variety, Music or Comedy Special) were among those honored. Long-snubbed Buffy mastermind Joss Whedon finally collected some Emmy hardware for his hugely popular online project Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. The wingding was presided over by Kathy Griffin, who saw the two-year Emmy-winning reign of Kathy Griffin: Life on the D List come crashing to a halt, with A&E’s Intervention named Outstanding Reality Program. The awards ceremony honored 81 technical and other achievements for the 2008-09 season. HBO led the way with 16 Emmys, followed by NBC (11) and ABC and Fox (eight apiece). PBS’ Little Dorrit topped all programs with four awards.

Um, I didn’t even know you could win an Emmy Award if your program was not broadcast on television … how awesome is Dr. Horrible’s win??? Congrats also goes out to Tina Fey because, in all honesty, I am of the mind that her spot-on impersonation of Sarah Palin did a lot to help the greater good and helped expose Palin’s insipidness more widely to the masses … so on behalf of the American people, we love you and congrats Tina!! I don’t believe that Mary Lynn Rajskub won an award last night but I wanted to include a photo of her and new hubby Matthew Rolph because they look so damn cute together :) Click HERE to see who else took home Creative Emmy Awards last night … and, again, congrats to all the winners!

The 2009 MTV Video Music Awards Pays Tribute To Michael Jackson

Check out the new video promo
Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Earlier this week it was announced that Janet Jackson will open the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, airing live from Radio City Music Hall in NYC, NY this Sunday night, by paying tribute to the memory of her late brother, the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. Today we get to see a new promo video that was created by MTV in honor of MJ’s legacy and promote the upcoming VMAs … check it out:

It’s a very subtle, quite fitting tribute. There is no way that MTV can throw a VMAs event this year and not pay homage to the man who essentially put MTV on the map in the 1980’s. I’m pretty sure this video is but the first of many tributes that will be paid to the late King of Pop at this weekend’s VMAs event.

The 2009 Daytime Emmy Awards Are Handed Out

'The Bold & The Beautiful' wins Best Daytime Drama for the first time ever!!!
Monday, August 31st, 2009

Daytime television’s biggest night took place at The Orpheum Theatre here in Los Angeles, CA where the 2009 Daytime Emmy Awards were handed out in a lavish ceremony hosted by actress/singer Vanessa Williams. The daytime drama The Bold & The Beautiful (one of my faves) took home the big prize of Best Daytime Drama for the first time in it’s 22 year history while Christian LeBlanc, from The Young & The Restless (another of my faves), took home the aware for Best Actor. Here are a few pics from the red carpet arrivals at last night’s affair:

Yes, Stacy Haiduk (who plays Mary Jane Benson/Patty Williams a crazy woman who believes her dead cat is still alive after losing her mind a bit by changing her entire face in order to stalk and seduce Jack Abbott on Y&R) brought a stuffed cat with her as her date to the Daytime Emmys … but it’s okay cuz her crazy-ass character on the show made that stuffed cat a star! While there were a lot of awards handed out last night, the big enchilada went to The Bold & The Beautiful. After the jump, check out a few photos from the show itself and a few photos of some of the winners posing with their new Emmys in the press room after the awards were handed out — plus, read all about B&B’s big win which was 22 years in the making …

Britney Spears & Russell Brand Team Up For A 2009 MTV VMAs Promo Video

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

Earlier this month we saw photos of Britney Spears on a poolside set of what I believed was a photoshoot … but it turns out that our dear Britney was rockin’ her white bikini for a promo video for the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. In the clip, Brit Brit swaps thoughts with VMAs host Russell Brand … here are a few screencaps:

In a new promo for MTV’s Video Music Awards, set for Sept. 13 in New York City, Britney Spears wishes for a personal invite from Russell Brand, who is hosting for the second year in a row. Standing by a pool in a white bikini and a black sun hat, Spears says in a voiceover, “I wonder if he’ll invite me. I mean, I can obviously get an invite, but it would be nice for Russell to invite me personally now that we’re friends and all.” Meanwhile, Brand has VMA jitters of his own. “I hope I didn’t balls it up with her last time,” he says. “Some of those things I said could have been construed as offensive. I hope she don’t think ill of me.” Back to Spears, this time biting her fingernail: “Should I have played it up more when he was flirting with me last year? I have to admit there is something sexy about his dangerous ways.” At the end of the spot, Brand realizes he’s hearing Spears’s voiceover and that she might be hearing his. What’s a bloke to do? “Britney,” he says in a high-pitched voice, “this is the voice of your mind … go to Russell’s hotel room and abandon yourself. Give yourself to him, Britney. Sleep with Russell!” The VMAs air live on Sept. 13 (9 p.m. EST) on MTV.

It’s a cute clip but not nearly as funny as I would’ve liked. Plus, I’d've preferred more Britney, less Russell. But hey, that’s just me. After the jump, check out the VMAs promo clip and judge for yourselves …

The 2009 MTV VMAs Release A Batch Of Promo Photos

VMA performances will take place all over Manhattan
Monday, August 17th, 2009

The 2009 MTV Video Music Awards invade NYC LIVE on September 13 and the network is working overtime to prep the really big show. Already the first groups of performers and presenters have been announced and it sounds like it’s going to be another great show. Here is a batch of new promo pics of folks who will be a part of the MTV VMAs this year:

It was already shaping up to be a pretty huge night, but now, the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards have gotten even bigger. Or at least grittier and glammier. That’s because Jay-Z and Lady Gaga have been booked to perform at the VMAs, joining an already impressive list that includes Taylor Swift, Green Day, Pink and Muse. Jay — whose gnarly “D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)” is up for Best Hip-Hop Video and Best Male Video — will perform a song from his hotly anticipated The Blueprint 3 album, due September 11. The glittery Gaga — who, along with Beyoncé, leads everyone with nine VMA nods — will perform a single from her breakthrough The Fame album. “I’m simply gutted to be both a performer and nominee at the 2009 VMAs,” Gaga said. “In fact, I’m so happy, I could die.” In addition to the performers, there are some big-name presenters to add to the show too. Nelly Furtado, Miranda Cosgrove and “Gossip Girl” star Leighton Meester — who is up for Best Pop Video and Best Direction for Cobra Starship’s “Good Girls Go Bad” — will be on hand to, well, hand out the awards. They join Katy Perry, Ne-Yo and Chace Crawford, who have already been announced as VMA presenters. But who will they be presenting the awards to? Well, that’s up to you. Voting for the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards is under way over at VMA.MTV.com. Verizon Wireless subscribers can also vote by texting VMA to 97979. The VMAs will broadcast live from New York on September 13 at 9 p.m. Russell Brand will once again serve as host for the evening. Trust us: It’s going to be a night you just can’t miss.

I can’t help it, I’m a sucker for the VMAs — always have been, always will. I can’t help but look forward to the show each year. Because the show is gonna be back in NYC this year, well, you know they’re gonna turn the mother out. I’m really hoping and crossing my fingers (and toes) that they’re gonna bring out our dear Britney Spears for a surprise performance. Last year was her year to look beautiful and collect her trophies … this year is her year to sing for her supper (as it were). Whether she performs or not, I’m pretty sure that secret will be hush-hush until the day of the show (or very close to). I can’t wait to find out, hopefully in person :)

Levi Johnston Insists Marital Problems Led To Sarah Palin’s Resignation

Claims marriage woes played a part in Palin's decision to quit her job
Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

After causing a sensation on the red carpet at the 2009 Teen Choice Awards Sunday evening on the arm of comedienne Kathy Griffin and then causing a stir as the pair walked out of a dinner date hand in hand afterward, we learn that Levi Johnston gave a short interview to RadarOnline to discuss his opinions on why former Governor Sarah Palin quit her job as the Alaska Executive. Earlier this month, AlaskaReport blogged that the Palins are planning to split due for various reasons, not the least of which was marital infidelity on both sides … while Johnston doesn’t make that claim in this new interview, he does insists that marital problems were part of the reason for Sarah Palin’s decision to quit her job as governor — and money was the other reason:

Sarah Palin’s marriage has been in trouble from the beginning, says Levi Johnston, the father of their grandson Tripp and ex-fiance of daughter Bristol. What’s more Levi told RadarOnline.com in an exclusive video interview that he believes marital problems were behind Palin’s decision to resign as governor of Alaska. When we asked if the couple had marital problems, Levi responded: “Oh yeah. There have been from day one.” RadarOnline.com then asked if Levi thought marital problems were the reason she stepped down from political office. Levi answered, “Oh yeah I do.” He didn’t stop there. He also told RadarOnline.com that he thinks Palin will be chasing an even bigger paycheck now that she’s out of public office and on the speaker circuit. “She took the money,” he said. “That’s what she’s talked about, that’s what I’m gathering and I think that’s what she’s doing.” He did add that he did not believe cheating was a factor in Sarah and Todd’s marriage.

While I contend that a 19 year old kid isn’t really the best source for this kind of information, it should be noted that Levi Johnston lived in the Palin home for many months last year and was privy to personal interactions that no one outside the family was privy to. Does the kid look like a famewhore? Yes. Does that mean that he doesn’t know what he’s talking about? No. My personal belief is that he is using true facts that he knows first hand in the hopes that he can parlay that information into a name for himself … Ricky Hollywood, I believe is what he’s going for. I’ve always been of the mind that Where there’s smoke, There’s fire. I don’t expect this is the last we’ve heard from Ricky, er, Levi Johnston … not by a longshot.
