Cementing her status as a Hollywood icon
Cher Leaves Her Mark On Hollywood Blvd.

On Tuesday we saw photos of Christina Aguilera getting her very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame but because the iconic Cher (who co-stars with Xtina in their new film Burlesque) already has a star on the Walk of Fame they had to go above and beyond to honor the legend. Cher was on hand yesterday to leave her hand and foot prints in the cement in front of the famed Grauman’s Chinese Theater … here are a few photos:

Cher made her mark in Hollywood history on Thursday by placing her hand and footprints in cement outside Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, as her new film “Burlesque” hits theaters next week. The music icon is returning to the big screen in a big way after a seven-year absense. She said she never intended to take such a long break from the movies. “There aren’t a lot of scripts that were right for me, there was one I wanted to do, ‘Mamma Mia,’ but I was working, so I couldn’t. This one just kind of worked its way into it,” said Cher. Cher shares a lot of her scenes with actor Stanley Tucci. They were the veteran cast members in a movie filled with newcomers like Christina Aguilera. “We were there just to do a good job, have a good time, but also to be supportive of someone like Christina who had never done a film before,” said Tucci. In one scene in the movie, Cher puts makeup on Christina. Cher said she wrote that part of the script. It’s a true story about her mom. Both Tucci and Cher said they’re similar to their on-screen characters in that they’re both nurturers in real life. “I have three children that I take care of since my wife passed away. That’s most of how I spend my time,” said Tucci. “I’m also, like the character in the movie. I’m used to having so many people around, much younger,” Cher said. “They look to you to give them the feeling of security, and I think that was the relationship I had with the girls in this film.” Cher will be one of among nearly 200 celebrities who have left their prints at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre.

Cher now joins Hollywood legends like John Wayne, Marilyn Monroe, Steve McQueen, Darth Vader and more as the celebrities immortalized forever in cement in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theater. While it’s fairly easy for a celeb to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, it’s a bit more of an exclusive matter to be asked to leave your hand/foot prints in the cement in front of Grauman’s. Cher is the perfect celebrity to be so honored. I’m still on the fence about seeing Burlesque, I gotta say. I’m not impressed by what I’ve seen thus far nor am I ever that impressed when Xtina over-excitedly wails her songs … but if anything is going to get me to pony up and pay to see this film, it’ll be Cher. Let’s send our love and congrats to Cher on this latest accomplishment … IMHO, it’s long overdue.

‘GQ’ Magazine Celebrates The Men Of The Year For 2010

On Tuesday we got to see some of the men that GQ magazine has selected as their Men of the Year for 2010 and last night at the Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood, CA some of those honorees strutted their stuff on the red carpet at the GQ 2010 Men Of The Year Party. Here are a few photos from the red carpet arrivals and some deets about the even itself:

Most of the guests jammed into the legendary hotel’s courtyard, where they stood and mingled under the stars and lighted trees. The exception was Kid Rock, who sat at a reserved glass table inside, his furry vest thrown across the back of the couch and a cigar in his hand. Eventually Rock, in jeans, a black shirt and black hat, made his way to the courtyard entrance, where he chatted with Kimmel and other guests. Waiters carefully maneuvered through the crowd, balancing trays of sesame chicken tenders, bacon wrapped shrimp, teeny grilled cheese sandwiches, sliders from Umami Burger, veggie spring rolls and grilled flatbread with prosciutto, figs and arugula. But the biggest hit was the mini-cupcakes by Susie’s Cakes. Grey Goose cocktails flowed while DJ Mr. Best did his thing … All of the honorees looked spiffy, but some admitted they don’t put too much emphasis on fashion. Donovan, the soccer star, wore a Costume National suit. “I don’t ever do these things so when I walked in to get fitted, I said, ‘This is the one.’ I put it on right away. It felt good and looked good.” Kimmel, in a John Varvatos suit, confessed, “I’m the opposite of stylish. If I could go to work in my underpants then I would.” The exception was Drake (in Prada), who actually seemed touched to be called one of GQ’s Men of the Year. “Being a part of rap music, being 24 years old and wanting to participate in a gentleman-like lifestyle — I strive to be a gentleman — it’s an honor. It’s probably the greatest accolade I’ve ever received.” Ruffalo did a nice spin on the black carpet to show off his Neil Barrett suit for a television camera. “I’m married to an ex-model (Sunrise Coigney),” he said in explaining his turning skills. “She’s like, ‘Do it again. Turn that shit around. Let’s see.’”

Any event that culls together so many hot men (except for David Arquette, that is) is bound to be a good time. I’m happy to see that my boy Milo Ventimiglia graced the event last night with his hottie presence. There aren’t many events that celebrate men in Hollywood in quite this way so it’s always a treat to see men being honored for being gentlemen. It’s always a good time when you’ve got hot men all dolled up in spiffy suits. Well done, GQ.

Christina Aguilera Gets A Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Congratulations are in order for pop star turned actress Christina Aguilera because yesterday she was honored in Hollywood, CA with her very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Xtina was the proud recipient of the 2,423rd star on the Walk of Fame and she shared the special honor with her mother Shelly Loraine, her younger brother Michael Aguilera and a gaggle of friends, fans and well-wishers. Here are a few photos and deets from yesterday’s special ceremony on the Hollywood Walk of Fame:

Grammy-winning US pop singer Christina Aguilera was honored with a star on Hollywood’s celebrity Walk of Fame, barely a week before her feature film debut. The star, the 2,423rd on the famous sidewalk roll call of celebrities past and present, was unveiled on Monday, nine days before her acting skills go on display when “Burlesque” hits the silver screen, co-starring Cher. “As a young girl in Pittsburgh, I often imagined what it would be like to come to Hollywood and make it as a performer,” the 29-year-old told screaming fans on Hollywood Boulevard. “We would go from audition to audition and I would sing anthem after anthem … hoping one day it would all pay off. Standing here at this moment I know that it has paid off in spades,” she added. Aguilera won the first of her four Grammys in 1999 as best new artist, followed by best pop collaboration in 2001, and best female pop vocal performance in 2003 and 2006.

Aww … good for her!! Even tho our dear Britney Spears was honored with her star (the 2,242nd) on the Hollywood Walk of Fame 7 years ago on November 17, 2003, I’m certain that Xtina is very pleased that she finally got a star of her own ;) In all seriousness, despite what your personal feelings about Xtina may be, I think it’s a crime that it took this long for her to get a star on the Walk of Fame. There is no question that Xtina is a talented singer and IMHO she is much more worthy of a Walk of Fame star than many of her predecessors (the Olsen twins come to mind). It’s about time Xtina got a star of her own. Let’s send our heartiest congrats to Xtina on her latest accomplishment. She may be losing a husband but a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is forever!

The Honorary Title
Betty White Becomes A Forest Ranger

Congratulations are in order for our dear Betty White because yesterday afternoon, she was bestowed the honorary title of Forest Ranger by the National Forest Service at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC. Betty was presented her very own Forest Ranger hat and badge and received a big hug from Smokey the Bear at yesterday’s fun ceremony … here are a few photos:

Betty White has had countless roles over her award-winning career, but now she has a gig she’s always wanted: “Forest Ranger.” The actress known for her roles on “The Golden Girls” and “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” was made an honorary ranger Tuesday by the U.S. Forest Service. White, 88, said that as a young girl she wanted to be a forest ranger, but women weren’t allowed to have the job. On Tuesday, the Forest Service presented her with a badge and a ranger’s Stetson hat, which she donned during a ceremony at the Kennedy Center. When Smokey Bear arrived mid-ceremony, White gave him a big bear hug and later asked to take the Forest Service mascot with her. She settled for a toy Smokey with its own small hat. “Wilderness is harder and harder to find these days on this beautiful planet, and we’re abusing our planet to the point of almost no return,” White said. “In my heart I’ve been a forest ranger all my life, but now I’m official.” White said some of her first memories as a child are riding in front of her father on a horse into the High Sierras. They would stay for three weeks and never see “another two-legged soul,” she said. The family also went camping in Yellowstone National Park. White said her teachers eventually asked that she write essays on topics other than Yellowstone. The Forest Service began in 1905, but very few women were employed during the early years. Today, women make up 38 percent of the Forest Service’s workforce.

Look at the smile on Betty‘s face. It’s no secret that Betty is a big animal lover but I was unaware of her fondness for the great outdoors. You don’t really hear about folks wanting to grow up to be Forest Rangers very much but I suppose anyone who grew up watching Yogi Bear cartoons might have some affinity for the profession. Betty has been honored with countless awards and tributes in her time but something tells me that this honorary title of Forest Ranger might be one of her faves. How adorable is she?

Neil Patrick Harris Wins 2, Betty White Wins 1
The 2010 Creative Arts Emmy Awards Are Handed Out

Yesterday afternoon the 2010 Creative Arts Emmy Awards were handed out in a ceremony held at the Nokia Theater in downtown LA, CA much to the delight of a few of our fave television actors. Neil Patrick Harris, who we learned last week will be welcoming the birth of twin babies this October, managed to win two of the awards handed out yesterday and our beloved Golden Girl Betty White nabbed a trophy for her hosting performance on Saturday Night Live last Spring. Here are a few photos from the red carpet arrivals yesterday (loving Mary Lynn Rajskub and Mad Men‘s Christina Hendricks in her sexy Christian Siriano dress) and some deets about who won what:

She won for being naughty on the subject of muffins, and he won – twice – for singing and dancing. Betty White’s Facebook-generated Saturday Night Live hosting gig and Neil Patrick Harris’s turns as Tonys host and special guest star on Glee landed both veteran TV stars in the winners’ circle at Saturday night’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards in Los Angeles. Though White, 88, was not at the Nokia Theater to collect her prize (her Snickers ad was also up for TV’s highest honor), presenters John Lithgow and Clyde Phillips accepted on her behalf. Meanwhile, Harris, 37, was present and accounted for … Harris, who also thanked his partner and (co-parent-to-be) David Burtka, is up for a best supporting actor in a series, for How I Met Your Mother, at next Sunday’s Primetime Emmy Awards. Saturday’s other winners also included Jaime Oliver’s Food Revolution (best reality series), previous Emmy-winning Survivor host Jeff Probst (best reality-show host) and Ann-Margret, for her guest -starring role on Law and Order: SVU. The ad firm Weiden + Kennedy also received a Creative Arts Emmy for its Old Spice commercial, whose star, Isaiah Mustafa, told the Hollywood Reporter before the ceremony, “This is my first awards show, and I get to be nominated alongside Betty White!”

The Creative Arts Emmy Awards don’t usually get this much attention but considering the caliber of nominees this year, it’s no wonder this news is making a big splash. The big Emmy Awards are next week … but these Creative Arts Emmys are getting major attention. After the jump, check out a few photos of some of the winners at this year’s Creative Arts Emmys

Emma Thompson Gets A Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Veteran actress Emma Thompson, whose new film Nannie McPhee Returns opens in theaters this Friday, was honored with her very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame last week. Emma received the 2,416th star which was placed right in front of the Pig & Whistle Pub on Hollwood Blvd., a placement that thrilled her to no end:

“I’m right outside a pub, which couldn’t be better because I love pubs and I love drinking. Not something that you can easily admit to in Los Angeles because no one drinks here and they’re very puritanical about it, which I don’t approve of because it’s a very spiritual activity,” the Academy-award winner joked. Fellow British actor Hugh Laurie was on hand to help honour his friend, although he revealed slightly more than Emma may have liked. “We actually stepped out briefly together as teenagers, until she dumped me for a mime artist,” he said. Emma’s Nanny McPhee co-star Maggie Gyllenhaal also posed for pictures when the star was unveiled on Friday.

Despite this latest honor recognizing her body of acting work, Thompson also revealed at her Walk of Fame ceremony that she plans to celebrate this latest achievement by taking a bit of a break from acting:

“Next year, I’m going to take a sabbatical. I’m not going to fund raise or perform or travel, except in pursuit of new vistas with my family. I’ve been meaning to do this for a long, long time, but it’s been like putting the brakes on a large ship because there is so much going on.” And she admits her longtime battle with “mild depression” has contributed to her decision to take an extended vacation. Thompson says, “I find the job I do emotionally very demanding. “I suffer from occasional mild depression, which I think is a very common thing… and it’s a very much hidden thing people don’t talk about. I think it should be discussed.”

Wow. I had no idea that she suffered from depression but it sounds like she’s got the right plan to take care of herself better so that her affliction can be better controlled. Emma Thompson is one of those actresses who is always a delight to see on screen when she pops up here and there. The folks who dole out the stars on the Walk of Fame don’t always get it right when they select honorees … but they deffo got it right by honoring Emma Thompson!

Mark Wahlberg Gets A Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Marky Mark Whalberg, who made a name for himself in Hollywood by dropping his pants before launching a rap career with his group The Funky Bunch, was honored with his very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this week. Here are photos from Marky‘s Walk of Fame ceremony and some deets from the event itself:

Mark Wahlberg was honored with a star on the Walk of Fame today, becoming the 2,414 star to receive the honor. Wahlberg next appears opposite Will Ferrell in the comedy “The Other Guys,” opening Aug. 6. Ferrell introduced his co-star, joking, “I first became a fan of his from his workout videos. And I loved him in the Bourne movies.” Taking the stage, former rap star and underwear model Wahlberg referenced his past careers and thanked “all the people gutsy enough to put me in movies.” At one point, he brought his nearly 2-year-old son to the stage, who proceeded to play with the microphone during the speech. Wahlberg wrapped up by saying, I gotta get this kid something to eat so I’m gonna go now.” Wahlberg made his film debut for director Penny Marshall in “Renaissance Man” and earned an Oscar nomination for “The Departed.” Other films include “Max Payne,” “The Perfect Storm” and “The Italian Job.” He also serves as executive producer on the HBO series “Entourage,” “In Treatment,” “How to Make it in America” and the upcoming “Boardwalk Empire.”

It just goes to show you how far a career in underwear modeling can take you. Marky made it a point to publicly thank Penny Marshall for casting him in his first film … were it not for her, he might never have gotten to the point where he became worthy of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. To be honest, I’m not a huge fan of Marky‘s acting career … the first film I ever took note of him as an actor was The Perfect Storm and I understand he turned in a pretty fantastic performance in The Departed … but I’ve seen more than enough terrible films overshadow his few good ones. BUT, the Hollywood Walk of Fame is not really in the biz of honoring the most talented folks in Hollywood … still, it is an honor nonetheless. I suppose congratulations are in order for Mr. Whalberg … I mean, right?

OUT and proud
Celebrities Celebrate amfAR, Men’s Fashion & Ricky Martin

Celebs like Kylie Minogue, Cyndi Lauper, Cheyenne Jackson and more made their way to The New York Public Library last night to attend the 2010 amfAR New York Inspiration Gala which honored singer Men’s Fashion as a whole and Ricky Martin, who recently came out of the closet as a gay man, in particular. Here are a few photos from the red carpet arrivals and some deets from last night’s event:

Ricky Martin has stepped out in style at an AIDS research organization’s New York City gala celebrating men’s fashion. It’s one of his first public appearances since announcing he’s gay. Celebrities including Kylie Minogue and Cyndi Lauper attended Thursday night’s amfAR event, which honored the “Livin’ La Vida Loca” singer for his philanthropic contributions through his foundation. Minogue hosted the black tie/black leather event. She says she is happy for Martin and feels he’s “embracing and living life” since announcing in late March he’s gay. Designer Jean-Paul Gaultier was honored for his contributions to menswear and his humanitarian work. The gala benefits amfAR’s AIDS research programs.

I’ve always thought that Ricky Martin should be honored for his philanthropic work so I’m glad that amfAR decided to feature his great work at last night’s gala. I just LOVE that Kylie Minogue flew over from the UK to attend last night’s event in honor of Ricky … I can’t think of a better way to celebrate a freshly out of the closet gay man ;) And speaking of Kylie, NYers might want to be at Splash Bar tonight because the RUMOR is that Kylie will make an appearance there around 1AM tonight to promote her current single All The Lovers. UGH! So cool … I wish I could be there, believe me. BUT, getting back to Ricky, congrats again goes out to Mr. Martin for all of his hard work and good deeds. Let’s hope his philanthropy inspires others to work for the betterment of others as well.

Make that Sir Patrick Stewart
Patrick Stewart Knighted By Queen Elizabeth II

Congratulations are in order for the now Sir Patrick Stewart — star of stage, television and film (who, most notably, played the iconic character Captain Jean Luc Picard in the Star Trek: The Next Generation TV series and film franchise) — because he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in an award ceremony in the UK yesterday. Here is a photo of Stewart‘s knighting ceremony and some deets from the event:

Actor Sir Patrick Stewart paid tribute to a former teacher as he was knighted by the Queen at Buckingham Palace. The 69-year-old said he owed “literally everything” to the English teacher who first encouraged him to perform. “Although many people in my life have had great influence on me, without this man none of it would have happened,” he said following Wednesday’s investiture. The classically trained actor is best known for his roles in Star Trek: The Next Generation and the X-Men films. He was recently seen on the London stage appearing alongside fellow actor knight Sir Ian McKellen in Waiting for Godot. Sir Patrick said his knighthood – announced in the New Year Honours List – had been “an unlooked-for honour”. “But as I grew up as a child, falling in love with the theatre and Shakespeare, my heroes were Sir Laurence Olivier [and] Sir John Gielgud,” he continued. “The knights of the theatre represented to me not only the pinnacle of the profession but the esteem in which the profession was held. To find myself, to my astonishment, in that company is the grandest thing that has professionally happened to me.” The Yorkshire-born star said he would be celebrating his knighthood with Cecil Dormand, the teacher who first encouraged him to consider acting as a profession. “He was the one that put a copy of Shakespeare in my hand [and] said, ‘Now get up on your feet and perform’.” Earlier this week it was announced that Sir Patrick would chair a jury and deliver a talk at this year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival. The actor was recently seen at the Minerva Theatre in Chichester playing William Shakespeare in the Edward Bond play Bingo.

I must admit, we don’t get much news of all the knighting that goes on in the UK here in the US but as far as I’m concerned, Sir Patrick Stewart is just the kind of man that I would expect to be honored as a knight. His career has been a stellar one and I have loved every single project that he has been involved in. As Capt. Picard, Sir Patrick Stewart won the eternal love of Trekkies the world over … for that reason alone, the man deserves to be a knight. After the jump, check out a couple more photos of Sir Patrick Stewart at yesterday’s knighting ceremony …
