Back in 2011, I read Patti Smith‘s first memoir Just Kids which chronicled her time living in NYC with her late BFF Robert Mapplethorpe. Today we learn that amazing news that Patti has written a second memoir, due for publication this October. Patti Smith‘s next memoir is titled M Train and is described in the press release below as a “roadmap” through her life. OMG! Yes! More »

George R. R. Martin Has Released An Excerpt From ‘The Winds Of Winter’

“I hope you joust better than you talk.”

The 5th season of Game of Thrones is ready to premiere on HBO any second now but author George RR Martin is still hard at work writing the next novel in his A Song of Fire and Ice book series upon which Game of Thrones is based. But “hard at work” doesn’t meant “fast at work” so things are very slow-going where the novels are concerned. That being said, Martin quietly released on his official website this week an excerpt from his next novel The Winds of Winter. Click below to read an excerpt of the much longer excerpt he is sharing on his website to get a taste of what’s to come when George RR Martin finally gets around to finishing the damn book. More »

First Look: Here Is The Cover Of Harper Lee’s New Novel ‘Go Set A Watchman’

Coming July 14

In early February, the world was shocked by the news that reclusive author Harper Lee will publish her first book in 55 years this summer after she famously made clear she never intended to release another book after her literary classic To Kill A Mockingbird. You may recall there has been some discussion as to whether or not Lee was being exploited for financial gain by her new attorney, who seems ALL TOO HAPPY that this new book has been found and will be published. In any event, outside of all the controversy, Lee‘s new novel Go Set A Watchman is being released in July and today we get our first look at the book cover. Click below to see the cover artwork for Harper Lee‘s Go Set A Watchman as we wait for the July 14 release date to arrive. More »

Surprise! A Recently Discovered NEW Dr. Seuss Book Is Being Published This Summer

Dr. Seuss is the new Harper Lee

It would appear that recently discovered “new” old books getting published is the new thing because today we learn that a newly discovered Dr. Seuss book has been found and will go into publication this July. As you may recall, an unpublished book by Harper Lee was recently discovered by her attorney and is scheduled for release later this year. Now Dr. Seuss is getting in on the “new” old book trend, despite his death in 1991. This new book is titled What Pet Should I Get? and is said to have been written by Seuss (real name Theodor Geisel) sometime between 1958 and 1962. Click below to see the cover of this new Dr. Seuss book and learn more about it’s forthcoming release. More »

Harper Lee’s Attorney Gives An Extensive Interview About The Newly Discovered Book ‘Go Set A Watchman’

Harper Lee herself has yet to be seen or heard from directly

It’s been a few days since the literary world was stunned by the news that a previously unreleased/unknown book manuscript written by To Kill A Mockingbird author Harper Lee was discovered and will be published this summer and, thus far, we’ve only been hearing from Lee‘s attorney about this new book. The initial press release announcement included quotes from Harper Lee, as relayed by her attorney Tonja B. Carter. A couple of days later, more quotes came from Lee … again, via her attorney Carter. Today, The New York Times has published an extensive interview that offers “more details on the discovery” of this new Harper Lee book … the interview, of course, is with Tonja B. Carter. Since this new book discovery was announced, we have not heard from Harper Lee directly but, clearly, her attorney is happy to talk about the book at length. More »

A New Statement Released On Behalf Of Harper Lee Says She Is ‘Happy As Hell’ Over Reactions Of Her New Book

Statement via her attorney Tonja Carter

Earlier this week, we learned that reclusive author Harper Lee will be publishing her first book in 55 years this summer — only her second book after her literary classic novel To Kill A Mockingbird. In my previous blog post, I voiced concerns over suspicions that this previously unpublished book is being released without Lee‘s express permission considering the 88 year old author has been unwell in recent years and is deaf and blind. All information about this new book, Go Set A Watchman, is coming from Lee’s new attorney Tonja Carter … who recently took over her business affairs after the death of Harper‘s older sister and longtime attorney/protector Alice Lee. Today, we get a new statement released in Harper Lee‘s name that is meant to refute concerns that she is being exploited but, then again, this new statement comes solely from Lee‘s attorney as Harper Lee declined all interview requests from everyone. Harper Lee, according to this new statement, is “happy as Hell” over reactions about her new book … apparently. More »

‘To Kill A Mockingbird’ Author Harper Lee Will Release Her First Book In 55 Years

But is the elderly author being exploited for financial gain?

Earlier today it was announced that 88 year old author Harper Lee, the woman who wrote the literary classic To Kill A Mockingbird 55 years ago and never published another book, was readying the release of a book titled Go Set a Watchman that she wrote before Mockingbird. The news has been met with almost total jubilation from fans of Mockingbird. But, it should be noted that the circumstances surrounding the release of this “new” book appear questionable. Lee, in her advanced age, is no longer in the care of her sister and attorney Alice Lee who passed away 2 1/2 months ago. Suddenly, after Alice‘s death and all these decades after she published her only book, the famously private Harper Lee has decided to release an unpublished work that no one even heard about until now? As exciting as a new Harper Lee book may sound, I can’t help but feel that this beloved author is being exploited by others (her new attorney, her publisher) for financial gain. More »

Mark Z. Danielewski Releases The Cover Of His New Book ‘The Familiar’

The 'House of Leaves' author is back with a planned 27 vol. story

Mark Z. Danielewski, one of my all-time favorite contemporary authors, has released the cover of volume one of his new book The Familiar that will reportedly be released in 27 volumes. Those of you familiar with MZD‘s work (House of Leaves, Only Revolutions and The Fifty Year Sword) know that his writing style is unconventional and always very different from one book project to the next. The multi-volume project The Familiar has been in the works for many years now and we are very close to the official release of volume 1 in May. Click below to see the cover of this book and learn more about MZD‘s new book(s). More »

Catching Up With An Old Friend

The TV Guide

Last night I made my way out to Book Soup in West Hollywood to catch up with an old friend … who just so happened to be hosting a book reading and booksigning on her birthday. Actress/author Amber Benson and I go back a few years but it has been a long time since we’ve been able to hang out. We keep in touch via social media but I’m embarrassed to say that it’s been years since we’ve seen one another (I might have been blonde the last time I saw her). When I found out that she was doing a booksigning, I knew I had to head out to see and support her … which I did last night. More »
