'A Wild Hare' is Born
Bugs Bunny, the cartoon rabbit who is the star of Warner Bros.‘s Loony Tunes cartoon series, turns 75 years old today. The beloved animated bunny made his debut on July 27, 1940 with the release of a cartoon titled A Wild Hare … and the world has never been the same since. His catchphrase, What’s Up, Doc?, has become a staple of pop culture and his impact on the world is absolutely immeasurable. And today, I have a confession. Considering how open I am about my love for all things Disney, it may come as a bit of a surprise to learn that it is Bugs Bunny — not Mickey Mouse — who is my all-time favorite cartoon character. As a child, I spent countless hours falling in love with Bugs Bunny and his animated friends from watching countless re-runs of the Loony Tunes cartoons on TV (Mickey Mouse and the Disney characters were occasional movie loves of mine, Bugs Bunny was an almost daily television love affair). It is remarkable but not at all surprising that Bugs Bunny would not only endure 75 years of “existence” but that he would thrive as one of the most important creations in modern history. More »

Altho Disney kicked off their 60th anniversary celebration for the Disneyland Resort on Memorial Day weekend back in May, yesterday was the park’s actual 60th anniversary. On July 17, 1955, Walt Disney himself opened up the Happiest Place on Earth to the world and for 60 years, brought happiness and magic to countless people from all around the world. Because of my usual work schedule, I have never been able to be at the Disneyland park when the gates open in the morning but I decided to make an exception for this occasion. I wanted to be among the first people to enter Disneyland exactly 60 years after the park was originally opened … and I had the best time ever. More »
Today, exactly 60 years ago, Disneyland Resort opened for business here in SoCal and for the following 6 decades, legions of people have visited the park and its companion theme park Disney California Adventure to experience the magic and wonder of Disneyland. I am planning to be at Disneyland when the park opens today at 8AM to mark the 60th anniversary (like, right now … as this post is being published). I never take days off — ever — and I’ve never been at Disneyland when it opens first thing in the morning so I figured I’d make an exception for the park’s 60th diamond anniversary. The folks at Disney are requesting that patrons dress as if it were 1995 — the year that Disneyland opened — so there, too, I am making an exception (I hate dressing up but I’m doing it — kinda — for the occasion today). I am hoping to be back home and in front of my computer by afternoon but it’s possible I may not get any work done today, please forgive me. And please help me wish the Happiest Place on Earth a very Happy 60th Anniversary today :)

Last night I attended the 10 year anniversary of the pop culture art gallery iam8bit here in LA last night with Eileen and we enjoyed a really nice night of video game-inspired art, free booze and food & drink afterward. I’ve been a huge fan of the iam8bit gallery for years now. The last big exhibit I went to see there was back in 2013 when they installed a life-size Scrooge McDuck bank vault (from Duck Tales) that visitors could play in (remember THESE fun photos?). The show last night was a neat overview of what iam8bit has been showing for the past decade, we had a lot of fun. More »

A year of Jofía
When last we heard from the happily engaged Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello, they were celebrating Easter together … and before that, we learned that the couple had decided to postpone their wedding until later this year due to Joe‘s busy schedule promoting the release of Magic Mike XXL. Today, we learn from Sofia, that the couple celebrated their 1 year anniversary together. She posted a cute photo of the two of them on her official Instagram profile along with a sweet message for her man. It’s sickeningly cute, so of course you have to see and read below. More »

20 years ago today, Alanis Morissette released her album Jagged Little Pill and single-handedly managed to transform the music world with her collection of songs. Jagged Little Pill is one of the most important albums of my life and, I think, of my generation. With just 12 songs (plus the hidden track Your House), Alanis successfully married an emotional, confessional songwriting style with the pop music zeitgeist that resonated with almost everyone. Angsty grungers, riot grrls, casual pop fans, anyone with a radio or MTV … Alanis Morissette spoke to everyone with her musical story. Because it is an album that is still so integral to me (and I suspect, many of you), I wanted to make sure to mark the occasion of the album’s 20th anniversary. More »
Not a remake, not a reboot, not a sequel -- The Real Deal
While some remake/reboots turn out fairly OK and others look absolutely horrid, there is no denying that there is NOTHING better than the real thing. Which is why I am super excited that the original Jaws film is being re-released in theaters next month in honor of the film’s 40th anniversary. For two nights in June, Jaws will be back in theaters nationwide … which means you have 2 chances to see one of the best films in modern cinematic history as it was intended to be seen. Save the date(s), Jaws is coming back. More »

Today is 4/20 and, as such, the 20th anniversary release of the 1995 stoner movie Friday is being screen in theaters around the country today. I’m sure it comes as no surprise that I plan on attending one of those screenings tonight. I think it’s pretty clear that I am a huge fan of screenings of classic movies in movie theaters and today’s screening of Friday is right in line with my fandom. I’m not sure how you plan on celebrating 4/20 today but my plan is to be at the movies. More »

In celebration of their wedding anniversary (and the launch of his new music streaming service TIDAL), Beyoncé released a new song for hubby Jay Z. Today we get to see intimate wedding video from B-Jay‘s nuptials that Jay shared on on his official Instagram profile. The video was featured on the jumbotron during the pair’s On The Run Tour last summer so it’s not the first time the video has been seen … but it is the first time the public has gotten a close-up look at the footage. The clip is short but oh, so sweet. Watch below. More »
Celebrating 5 years of the Let's Move! fitness campaign
5 years ago, First Lady Michelle Obama launched the Let’s Move! fitness campaign to help inspire folks like Beyoncé to be more physically fit for the betterment of their health and well-being. In celebration of the 5 year anniversary of Let’s Move!, the FLOTUS made an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon last night to participate with Jimmy his thoroughly entertaining late night talk show bit The Evolution of Mom Dancing – Part 2. The last time Michelle Obama was on The Tonight Show, she participated in Fallon‘s EW! skit … but I think I love her best when she’s mom dancing with Jimmy. Watch the video above and just love our FLOTUS.
