My homie Stacy wrote a blog for VH-1 Music in honor of the 15th anniversary of our dear Britney Spears‘s music video for her debut single …Baby One More Time (which is chock full of fun animated gifs HERE, so it’s worth a visit) so I couldn’t let the day pass without showing a little love to Britney and her now iconic music video. …Baby One More Time was not only a monster hit for Britney but it helped usher in the golden age of pop music in the early 00′s. Alongside boybands Backstreet Boys and *NSync, Britney was able to rule over the era of MTV‘s Total Request Live … paving the way for the Katy Perrys, Rihannas and Miley Cyruses of today. It’s crazy to think that it was 15 years ago that …Baby One More Time was released. Tomorrow, Britney releases a new music video for her latest single Work Bitch proving that she is still the Queen. Happy Anniversary, Baby!
And Still as Relevant As Ever Today
Today is the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King, Jr.‘s legendary I Have A Dream speech and in honor of this integral part of US History, I present audio/video of the speech here today. On August 28, 1963, MLK Jr. changed the world with an impromptu speech that he delivered during the March on Washington and 50 years later, we are still affected by his words. I urge you to take some time today to watch/listen to his speech and remember … we still have a long way to go to reach that mountaintop … but we will get there one day.
All Hail the Reigning QUEEN of the Universe
Madonna turns 30 years old today. Not the queen of the universe Madonna Louise Ciccone but her self-titled debut album Madonna … it was released 30 years ago today on July 27, 1983 … and the world was forever changed. As the expertly written article quoted below by Entertainment Weekly writer Kyle Anderson brilliantly explains, Madonna‘s impact on the world wasn’t immediate … but it was a slow burn that was ignited in the Summer of ’83 and continues to blaze even to this day where Madonna reigns supreme as the best selling female artist of all time. It’s really hard to imagine that Maddy‘s debut album came out 3 decades ago (particularly because I have vivid memories of the album’s impact when I was a young child) but it’s true … Madonna turns 30 today, so homage must be paid to her royal Madgesty. The TV Guide
Today is the anniversary of the day that I met my good friends Kirsten and Darion six years ago here in LA and last night, we celebrated our Friendiversary with a sumptuous dinner together. It was fortuitous for us that Kirsten could be here in LA to celebrate the anniversary of our meeting so we decided to do it up right. The three of us met up for dinner at ink. before we made our way into West Hollywood to join the crazy celebration that erupted over the invalidation of California’s Proposition 8 that attempted to ban same-sex marriage. It was a very nice night of love and friendship :) More »

Throwback Thursdays Celebrates The Fifth Anniversary Of Jay & Bey!
Today, we are going to have a short but sweet Throwback Thursday. It’s 4/4 y’all! And it’s a happy day for the ones they call Mr. and Mrs. Carter… but for me it’s always a difficult time of the year. I’ll never forget the first time I started hearing rumors about Bey and Jay. I didn’t wanna believe it… I couldn’t believe it. Was my Jay-Z really, truly creeping around with another woman? I’m not gonna lie, it was the worst! And then they started doing these songs together, and I was all like. No. I’m not supporting this. But then the songs were, like, good. And it was awkward. And then we started seeing, like, pictures of them… looking so. Effing. Happy. Together. And it was like, okay. Fine. Whatever. If he’s happy with her then fine. And, ya know, I had to move on. But because of my lurve for Jigga man, I don’t think I’ll ever be fully, 100% comfortable with his decision [to leave me for Beyoncé, when I can totally do the exact same dance moves, but maybe just like not as fast, or whatever]. However, I am willing to put aside some of that old heartbreak that still creeps up on their anniversary date, and celebrate the good music that their blessed union has created. Click inside to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Mr. And Mrs. Carter with five of their best collaborations!
It has been one year since the world lost Amy Winehouse at the far too young age of 27. On the anniversary of her death, her father Mitch Winehouse has penned an open letter that he is sharing with the world. In addition to this letter, Mitch has also written a book titled Amy, My Daughter which — I hope — is is way of memorializing his daughter. Click below to read the full text of Mitch‘s letter about Amy to see what he has to say one year after her very untimely death. More »
