Back in February we got our first look at the animated short film Toy Story: Hawaiian Vacation, which will show exclusively ahead of Cars 2 (opening in theaters today). Today we get to check out another promo image for the short along with a synopsis of what Hawaiian Vacation will be all about. The Walt Disney Company is planning to cash in on the 3D film craze by pulling one of its more recent classic films from the Disney vault and re-releasing it in theaters. The Lion King, one of the more beloved Disney films of the 1990s, has been turned into a 3D film and it will show in theaters for 2 weeks this September. After this brief theater run is finished, the 3D version of The Lion King will be released on DVD and Blue Ray. Read one for all the deets.

Last March we learned that Disney/Pixar is planning the release of an animated film that will feature, for the first time, a female lead character. Back then, we got to see a few concept images from the film titled Brave. Today we get our first real look at that lead character as she will appear in the film … say hello to Pixar‘s first leading lady Princess Merida.

Earlier today we learned that the 90′s music video show Pop-Up Video is returning to VH1 this Summer but right now I want to take you back a little further. The Hub is bringing back the 80′s animated TV series Jem and the Holograms this weekend with a marathon airing of the show’s first 6 eps before the entire series re-runs on The Hub starting next week. Those of you who remember the show about the animated all girl rock group should be THRILLED that the show is coming back to TV. Those of you who don’t know the show will want to take note … this cartoon is truly outrageous and is NOT to be missed.

The classic 60′s animated TV series The Flintstones, that has lived on and on and on in reruns, is getting the reboot treatment … by none other than Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane. Fox announced at it’s Fall upfronts yesterday that they will air this new animated version of The Flintstones on their network, tho no release date has been announced. Will this be a case of Yabba Dabba Wahoo? Or Yabba Dabba Don’t?

The Hangover Part II star Ed Helms hosted last night’s episode of Saturday Night Live and, sadly, there wasn’t much funny AT ALL to be had in the entire ep. BUT, there was one shining glimmer of hilarity in the show, courtesy of an animated digital short from TV Funhouse. The much-beloved animated skit The Ambiguously Gay Duo got a bit of an upgrade last night when the cartoon characters were turned into live action actors. Jon Hamm played Ace and Jimmy Fallon played Gary in the only SNL skit worth watching. Check out the skit in full below.

Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark may be floundering on Broadway and the upcoming film The Amazing Spider-Man won’t be in theaters until next year but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for another Spider-Man project to launch. Marvel Comics has announced their plans to release a new animated series for 2012 that will be titled Ultimate Spider-Man. Check out the first promo photo and read the deets below.

On Saturday we got to see some fantastic new footage, screened at WonderCon 2011 in San Francisco, from the upcoming superhero film Green Lantern and today we get to see new footage from the upcoming animated series reboot of ThunderCats. As you may recall, in late February we got to check out the first ThunderCats trailer … but this new footage, also unveiled at WonderCon this weekend, gives a better look at what to expect from the new series. Pixar Films has given Entertainment Weekly magazine the first look at their first-ever female lead character to feature in and upcoming animated film. The film, Brave, will also be the first Pixar film to be co-directed by a woman (Brenda Chapman) and will be the first fairytale story made by the film company. Check out a few teaser concept photos of the Brave protagonist named Merida who will be voiced by Scottish actress Kelly MacDonald.

Those clever folks at Next Media Animation have taken the recent incident where actor Jake Gyllenhaal was met with a rogue amateur photographer in a men’s restroom at South by Southwest in Austin, TX who tried to snap a photo of him while he was urinating and turn it into an entertaining animated video … which you can watch in full below.
