You know … I’ve thought long and hard about what my last post here on Pink is the new Blog might be like … and not just over the past few months when I was informed that I would no longer be writing the site. Way back in 2002, when I started writing my very first blog … I was convinced that I would tire of writing stuff daily on my “weblog” for an audience that didn’t exist. I was certain that I might keep up with the practice for a month … or a few months … but even as I was just starting to blog personally — for me — I was already thinking about what the end might be like. There is a wonderful freedom that comes from writing for one’s self. When you have a blank page that you can fill with whatever your heart’s desire and you have no fear of criticism or judgement from others — be they friend or foe — you learn things about yourself that you never knew existed. You are able to unleash a power within you that can allow you to be the best person you can be. When you find an audience that, over time, changes from this nebulous idea of “people” out there and into honest to goodness friends that you just haven’t met yet, well … you realize that something greater than yourself is at work. I have been beyond blessed to have lived the life I enjoyed for the past 10+ years with all of you. And it has been an honor and a privilege to provide this forum where we can all share fun, love, laughter and tears together. More »
She succumbed to cancer
Back in May, we learned officially that David Lynch and Showtime reached a deal to make the forthcoming new season of Twin Peaks a reality and, as you may recall, we heard that the sequel season of the show would include as many of the actors from the original version of Twin Peaks as possible. Among the original actors slated to return for the new season of Twin Peaks was actress Catherine Coulson, the woman who played the Log Lady on the show back in the ’90s. Very sadly, I must pass along the news that Coulson died yesterday at the age of 71 after she lost her battle with cancer. Part of the appeal for me about the return of Twin Peaks was that actors like Catherine Coulson would be back to reprise their beloved roles … so news of Coulson‘s death is, I’m sure, very tragic for her Twin Peaks fans. In the days leading up to her hosting duties of the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards last night, Miley Cyrus gave an interview where she publicly attacked Nicki Minaj‘s previous criticism of the nomination process for the awards show (you may recall that at the time, Nicki‘s comments unintentionally fueled a beef with Taylor Swift which was quickly squashed and then really squashed again last night). Nicki, apparently, was none too pleased about what Miley said about her (probably the part where Miley said, “Nicki Minaj is not too kind … [is] not very polite“) and when she went on stage to accept her award for Hip-Hop Video of the Year, she referred to Miley as a “bitch” and goaded her by asking, “What’s good?” (fighting words, obviously). Miley, taken back, responded to Nicki live on air in what many believe to have been a staged incident but, to me, looked like an uncomfortable argument that belonged off stage. Click below to watch video of this incident and see what you think. More »
Celebrating the music of Starlight Records
Back in May, we got to see the first trailer and poster for the forthcoming live-action movie version of Jem and the Holograms (which, I’m sure you may recall, looks NOTHING like the original cartoon source material). Today, I have more Jem news to share with all y’all. The movie is still coming, unfortunately, but today we learn that a tribute album is also on the way. This coming Friday August 7, an album titled Truly Outrageous: A Tribute to Starlight Records will be released that features updated versions of many songs that were featured on the original ’80s cartoon. Songs from the cartoon performed by Jem and the Holograms will be featured along with songs by The Misfits and The Stingers. Click below to see the cover art and tracklisting for this Jem tribute album and find out which artists have recorded these Jem / Misfits / Stingers songs for inclusion on this album. More »

His 7 Best Dance Moves in 30 Seconds
Channing Tatum is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Vanity Fair magazine and as you can see below, he gave the magazine a lot of really great footage to use to promote the release of this issue. In addition to the pretty pictures and the cover story feature interview, Channing also filmed some behind the scenes video for use online … which brings me to the point of this post. Channing was asked to bust out as many dance moves as he could in 30 seconds time … which resulted in his ability to showcase his 7 best dance moves … dances like the Running Man, the Funky Chicken and The Twist. His shining moment, tho, comes when he starts to Vogue. I mean, you’ve seen Channing Tatum dance … you know he can Vogue … but seeing is believing so … have a look below. More »
"There is no Top Gun without Maverick"
Way back in 2010, we first learned that plans were in the works for a sequel film to the 1986 film Top Gun. In December of 2011, Top Gun star Tom Cruise voiced not only his support for a sequel to Top Gun but his interest in reprising his role as Lieutenant Pete Maverick Mitchell. In April of 2012, Paramount Studios confirmed that Top Gun 2 was coming … but then, nothing. In the wake of director Tony Scott‘s suicide in August of that year, all talk of Top Gun 2 went away and it was believed that the sequel would never get made … until now. David Ellison (CEO of Skydance Productions) is talking about the Top Gun sequel again, announcing that the film has a new screenwriter … and revealing that “an amazing role” is being written for Cruise‘s Maverick character because, as Ellison makes clear, “there is no Top Gun without Maverick“. The song will be released in full on June 23
Oh. My. GODS. It’s here. Our first actual sampling of Janet Jackson‘s new single is here. According to the music blog Ultimate Music, Janet‘s new single is titled No Sleeep and it will be released in full next Tuesday, June 23. A 30 second sample of the song has made its way online and as you can hear below, it’s a slower midtempo ballad-type song that feels like it wants to amp up into the funkier dance pop range. Personally, I’ve been hoping for a club banger dancey single but this small taste of No Sleeep sounds just fine to me. Click below have a listen and get your first sampling of Janet‘s forthcoming new single No Sleeep. More »
“It is with complete allegiance to the cause ... that I step aside"
In today’s installment of the odd saga involving Rachel Dolezal, the Caucasian woman pretending to be a Black woman, we learn that Dolezal has formally stepped down as president of the Spokane, WA chapter of the NAACP amid mounting criticism over her odd behavior. As you may know, we learned on Friday that Dolezal‘s ethnicity came into question when her parents revealed that she is of Caucasian descent even tho she has presented herself as a Black woman for years as president of her chapter of the NAACP. As criticism of her actions grew, Dolezal responded to critics by saying that she didn’t “give two shits” about what anyone had to say about her. Over the weekend, Dolezal‘s adopted brother (who is Black) reaffirmed their parents claim that Rachel is not a Black woman, all ahead of a meeting of the Spokane, WA chapter of the NAACP that was scheduled to take place today. Dolezal tried to cancel the meeting but because she does not have the authority to cancel, the meeting is set to take place as scheduled. Just a short time ago, Rachel Dolezal issued an official statement announcing that she has stepped down as president of the Spokane chapter of the NAACP. More »
Remember how Sarah Michelle Gellar shared a cute photo with her Buffy the Vampire Slayer co-star Alyson Hannigan a few days ago? Yeah, well, she kinda outdid herself last night when she met up with her Cruel Intentions co-stars Selma Blair and Reese Witherspoon for a mini-reunion here in LA. The ladies got together to attend a performance of Cruel Intentions: The Musical, which is so mind-blowingly amazing that I can barely believe it happened. The ladies posed for photos together (including on the red carpet, where Sarah and Selma recreated their infamous kiss from the movie) and were videoed singing their hearts out during the performance. OMG. It’s too much! It’s just too much amazing for words. More »
