Lady Gaga Admits To Having PTSD And How Kindness Saved Her Life

After all the years of crazy costumes, amazing music, confessions, giving back, winning awards, eye popping performances and getting to know her little monsters on a deeper level, Lady Gaga has surprised us again with news that she suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

The Grammy winning singer who appeared on the Today show as part of the #ShareKindness campaign opened about her own struggles while visiting the Ali Forney Center, which helps homeless LGBT youth in New York City. “I suffer from PTSD,” she said. “I’ve never told anyone that before, so here we are.” Gaga then went on to talk about how something as simple as basic kindness can make a world of difference and something she attributes to saving her life.

“The kindness that’s shown to me by doctors as well as my family and my friends, it’s really saved my life,” she said. “Kindness, to me, is an action of love or a showing of love to someone else. I also believe that kindness is the cure to violence and hatred around the world. I like to share kindness in a lot of different ways.”

This includes reaching out to displaced youth who feel as though they have no one to talk to and no where to turn. “I love to give things to people that have nothing or less than me. These children are not just homeless or in need,” she shared. “Many of them are trauma survivors; they’ve been rejected in some kind of way. My own trauma in my life has helped me to understand the trauma of others.”

Thank God we’ve got a Gaga in the world.
