After major buzz and teasers among the music industry and her Little Monsters, Lady Gaga has finally dropped her new single, “Perfect Illusion,” off her yet-to-be-titled fifth studio album. Co-producing the song with music industry heavy hitters, Mark Ronson and Kevin Parker (Tame Impala, Bloodpop), Mother Monster has stepped out of her musical comfort zone of toe-tapping/head bobbing dance-pop beats, to gift her fans a rock laden track, covering the emotional battlefield of mistaking a lustful crush for true love.
It’s a fresh new sound for the music chameleon, who, according to an interview Ronson did with Rolling Stone, has gone the extra musical mile to make the single and forthcoming album that-much-more special. “She’s never played guitar in public before…but guitar is something she’s learning for this record,” he teased, adding, “That side of her, I don’t think a lot of the world has seen. It’s really great to make this very honest, authentic, kind of analog record with her.”
It may take a few plays to get used to, and only time will tell if this driving new song has the chart topping power of previous smash hits, or will fall into a black hole of music obscurity. Take the single for a spin below and let us know in the comments what you think of “Perfect Illusion.”0
