Scarlett Johansson Teams Up With Planned Parenthood For A New Women’s Rights Campaign

One of my favorite moments from the Beyoncé show MTV Video Music Awards the other night, was the FEMINIST sign that flashed on stage behind her (which may or may not now be my Facebook cover photo). I am all about The Feminism, and I am all about celebrities who are not afraid to speak up and say Women Are Watching. I always knew I liked that Scarlett Johansson, and now that I’m hearing she’s teaming up with Planned Parenthood on some new T-shirt designs, I’m officially on Team ScarJo. The mom-to-be is not interested in a political climate that so strongly resembles the 1950s, for women. I’m with it. Click inside for more!

E! has the deets:

Scarlett Johansson is teaming up with Planned Parenthood.

The pregnant 29-year-old actress recently designed her own T-shirt for the Planned Parenthood Action Fund’s new line of celeb-designed shirts. The line of limited edition tees was commissioned by the organization’s Women Are Watching campaign, which educates and mobilizes young voters about women’s health issues and women’s rights.
Johansson’s shirt features her signature on one of the sleeves in addition to a message to politicians about women’s rights to health care and birth control.

“When I heard that some politicians were cheering the Supreme Court’s decision to give bosses the right to interfere in our access to birth control, I thought I had woken up in another decade,” Johansson said in a statement. “Like many of my friends, I was appalled by the thought of men taking away women’s ability to make our own personal health care decisions. That’s when I knew I couldn’t sit on the sidelines and why I’m proud to support Planned Parenthood Action Fund’s Women are Watching campaign to ensure that young women know the high stakes for women’s health and rights this November.”

“Women are watching, and we will fight for candidates who will ensure that birth control is affordable and who will protect access to safe and legal abortion,” Johansson continued. “Women will be the key to the elections this November and it’s more important than ever that young women register to vote and vote for the candidate that will stand up and fight for them.”

A shirt designed by Gabrielle Union will be released and in October, another one designed by Orange Is the New Black stars Natasha Lyonne and Selenis Leyva will come out.

Yes, I want this shirt now, and I cannot wait to see the designs from Gab Union and the OITNB stars. I got to interview Lyonne back in June and we talked a bit about her old movie, But I’m A Cheerleader—I could tell she was an activist at heart, so I’m excited to see her doing this.

Anyway, they need to start making them in children’s sizes and onesies because I want my boys to start reppin’ while they’re young.
