Beyoncé, Jay Z & Solange Release An Official Joint Statement Regarding The Elevator Assault Video

The Knowles-Carter Family SPEAKS

Wow! Beyoncé Knowles, her husband Jay Z and her sister Solange Knowles have just released an official joint statement regarding the elevator assault video that was released earlier this week showing Solange physically attacking Jay on the night of the Met Ball gala last week. The usually private family never comments publicly on tabloid rumors and scandal but, for some reason, feel compelled to issue a statement regarding this particular incident. The statement makes clear that both Solange and Jay Z assume equal responsibility for the incident. Click below to read the Knowles-Carter statement in full.

As a result of the public release of the elevator security footage from Monday, May 5th, there has been a great deal of speculation about what triggered the unfortunate incident. But the most important thing is that our family has worked through it. Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred. They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family.

The reports of Solange being intoxicated or displaying erratic behavior throughout that evening are simply false. At the end of the day families have problems and we’re no different. We love each other and above all we are family. We’ve put this behind us and hope everyone else will do the same.

This is unprecedented. I never thought that B-Jay nor Solange would ever comment publicly about this matter. With all the silent public messages they’ve been sharing on social media, I figured loving family photos were all we were going to get where a statement is concerned. Clearly, the Knowles-Carter family wants to take as much control of the situation as possible in an attempt to put the matter to rest. B-Jay and Solange have spoken. Are you satisfied?

I understand people wanting to know what happened but I also know what it’s like if some random person knows your family business. It’s awkward and humiliating. Yes they are public figures who have opened a great deal of their lives to us but at the same time they are humans with faults and flaws who deserve the same respect as any of us would want.
But the most important thing I think that needs to be said is that no matter you relationship to someone else or gender, you don’t have a right to physically assault or attack someone else unless your life depends on it- end of story.

    • @Alecia — “the most important thing I think that needs to be said is that no matter you relationship to someone else or gender, you don’t have a right to physically assault or attack someone else” YES, exactly.

Yeah. I’m surprised that they released a statement. It is still my favorite video. hehe. Better than a celebrity sex tape.

There were two parts to the statement. Here’s the second, straight from the source:

“The reports of Solange being intoxicated or displaying erratic behavior throughout that evening are simply false,” the statement continued. “At the end of the day families have problems and we’re no different. We love each other and above all we are family. We’ve put this behind us and hope everyone else will do the same.”

  4. This is all too beyond, isn’t it? I mean irregardless of what provoked her, girl snapped…and kept coming back for more. Damn I’ll bet they’re all just sighing in relief that there’s no audio on this tape. This joint statement is the most worrying thing I’ve actually read yet. This is what I would do if I needed to put something to rest…for now. Does that sound crazy? I’m not for break-up rumours but it is so strange to see Bey trying to cover tracks and quiet the storm. It’s just off to me.

  5. Ah…the powers of Olivia pope strike again.

  6. I’m just going to come out and say it…the reason why Beyonce looked so calm, is because she doesn’t care. I genuinely think this isn’t a marriage filled with love but one that was a great business decision. I would bet money after their tour, they split and Beyonce has her heartbreak/Adele/Gloria Gaynor album go platinum. Also, didn’t I read somewhere she had her marriage tattoo removed from her finger?

For some, hitting in a half-joking, half-serious is a way that two people feel comfortable communicating with each other. Others have at one point in their life, found themselves momentarily so enraged that they slapped or even punched someone else in frustration and anger. What I think needs to be said is that this video is of NEITHER of those things. This was a 3+ minute sustained physical assault with intended true battery. This is a video of an actual criminal act. The joint statement is understandable in one sense, but there is NOTHING Jay could have said or done that justifies Solange’s behavior and NOT being drunk makes it much WORSE, not better — because it means her judgement was not artificially impaired. The public statement specifically reads like a defense of Solange and Solange only. I’m sure Jay (and Bey) are being the bigger people and simply trying to quell the backlash against Solange, as well as make a public statement about the state of their own marriage — which apparently has come into question regarding her ring and possible tattoo removal. The video should never have been released, and I respect Bey and Jay’s request for family privacy, but I cannot respect the assertion that Jay said or did something that is of remotely equivalent malfeasance as the assault perpetrated by Solange.

  8. I wonder how Mama Tina feels about this. I kind of hope all three were embarrassed to allow this to happen, and have Tina watching it.

  9. We are all people, we all have problems, fight and solve our differences. Get over it. Geez

  10. Something about this screams ‘Tiger Woods car accident’ situation. When that happened, it didn’t take long for the shit of their marriage to hit the media fan. I feel like their is so much more to this story that will surface in the near future.
