Scarlett Johansson’s Pregnancy Is Impacting Production Of The Sequel To ‘The Avengers’

Yesterday we learned the still unconfirmed news that Scarlett Johansson is pregnant with her first child and, as you may recall, speculation began as to what ScarJo’s pregnancy will mean for filming production of the planned superhero sequel film to The Avengers. As you may know, Scarlett plays Black Widow, a superhero that kicks all kinds of ass in a super tight-fitting body suit … and as such, she is unable to have any kind of baby bump in the film. According to new reports, Scarlett will be forced to film her scenes for the sequel to The Avengers as soon as possible, which means the production schedule of the entire film has to be fast-tracked to get in front of her pregnancy.

E! News exclusively revealed that Scarlett Johansson is expecting her first child with fiancĂ© Romain Dauriac, and while we’re ecstatic for the actress and her soon-to-be hubby, we couldn’t help but wonder what this means for her future projects. The pregnant star, who E! News has learned is due in August, is currently gearing up for her promotional tour for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and once that’s done, Scarlett is scheduled to begin shooting Avengers 2. And, well, it’ll be pretty hard to hide a growing baby bump under that tight, black catsuit. So what’s going to happen? A source tells E! News that shooting for the superhero sequel will need a bit of rearranging. “They’re going to fast-track her scenes,” the insider tells us. Johansson is scheduled to begin shooting Avengers 2 overseas on April 5, after her promotional tour for Captain America is complete. The studio wouldn’t comment about her having to reschedule filming.

Yep, this makes total sense. While I sure that folks aren’t entirely happy that they have to start filming sooner than expected, it has to be done so that Scarlett can play Black Widow in the required uniform. No baby bumps allowed. Johansson’s Black Widow features prominently in the new film Captain America: The Winter Solider so we can look forward to seeing a lot of her in that movie when it comes out in April. I wonder, tho, if her pregnancy will mean that Black Widow will feature less prominently in the sequel to The Avengers because of timing. I’m certain it’ll all work out the way it needs to. The overarching happy news is that Scarlett is going to be a mom. Man, that is still gonna take some getting used to.

hah! I wasn’t the only one!

I’m still not sure how well it will work if she starts filming immediately. Some are reporting that she is already 5 months along. a 5-month bump would definitely show in that body suit.

I mean, i get it and I’m sure there’s a window for her to do some of the action, but um, hello, CGI and stunt doubles? I mean, they made Sandra Bullock seemed lost in outer space, can they not “hide” a baby bump?

    • @MJ — It’s the suit! That thing is skin tight. I’m sure they’ll figure it out but I bet some folks were not happy when they learned of her pregsness.

They can slim down people in just their flesh. This shouldn’t be hard for them to do, it will just take extra time and money.

I saw a tv show once about how they do it, and they took a girl in a crop top whose back had a bit of rollage where the straps of her top cut across her back. They removed the rolls and slimmed down her waist, back and hips, even as she walked into the scene and turned around. Jessica Alba filmed shower scenes for one of the Machete movies in a bra and underwear and they edited them all out.

I think they can easily do this…I think the hardest part will be her moving like she doesn’t have a baby. I’ve heard it makes you waddle after a while! I bet they will use body doubles a lot!

the thought of them fast tracking this movie worries me. things dont always go so well when this happens. couldnt they just…film her from the boobs up and use a stunt double for the rest?..OR pretend black widow doesnt exist?..ugh.
