‘Girls’ Star Adam Driver Will Reportedly Play A Villain In ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’

Thus far, we’ve heard a lot of rumors about who might play what role in the upcoming new Star Wars film but today we learn THE MOST RIDICULOUS casting rumor yet … and I fear the rumor may turn out to be truth. According to Variety, Girls star Adam Driver is being considered as the main bad guy villain in Star Wars: Episode VII … which means he would basically be the Darth Vader of the film. If this report had come from In Touch or Us Weekly, I don’t think I’d be sweating the news as anything more than silly rumor … but when Variety says that Driver is close to signing on to play the new villain in Star Wars? Yeah, I’m effing CONCERNED!

Adam Driver is ready to travel to a galaxy far, far, away. Sources tell Variety that while no deal is done yet, the “Girls” actor is close to signing on to play the villain in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars: Episode VII.” Exact details are unknown, but the character is said to be in the vein of iconic “Star Wars” villain Darth Vader. Driver, 30, is the first cast member to be revealed for Walt Disney Studios and Lucasfilm’s highly-anticipated “Star Wars” installment, which will open in theaters on Dec. 18, 2015. The big-budget tentpole, directed by J.J. Abrams, is scheduled to shoot at London’s Pinewood Studios in April. Additional cast members will likely be announced in the next month. “Star Wars: Episode VII” will continue the Jedi saga where “Return of the Jedi” left off … Driver’s name had been rumored during the casting process, but in recent weeks, the Indiana native has become Disney and Lucasfilms’ top choice to play the main villain. The delay in making a decision was due to scheduling issues with “Star Wars” and his HBO show “Girls.” Sources say it’s not just Season 4 that was the hangup, but also future seasons, since future “Star Wars” installments could also coincide with upcoming seasons of the HBO Lena Dunham comedy. Sources are now telling Variety that scheduling issues have been res

I really don’t like making preconceived judgements but … I just can’t see Adam Driver as a Star Wars villain. I hate to sound like a hater and I’ll be happy to eat my words if I’m proved wrong but … I am really worried about this casting report. I think I’m mostly focused on the horribly annoying character that Driver plays on Girls and, at least for now, I can’t see past that character. I really want the new Star Wars films to be great but I can’t really think of anything that I’m looking forward to from the rebooted franchise just yet. I’m not crazy about J.J. Abrams as director, I’m really not crazy about Adam Driver’s possible role as the main villain. My fear is that Star Wars will be ruined for me … and that scares the Hell out of me. How do you feel about this casting possibility?

I think he is a really great actor. Girls might not be the best show, but I think he has a very REAL style of acting. He brings it from his gut and is just so raw. I think he is the best actor on the show by leaps and bounds. I think he has a lot of untapped potential in there…it will be nice to see him in something very different from Girls.

i think it doesnt matter whatsoever who plays darth vader. his voice will be edited, and his face will b covered by a mask. there are no great acting skills required for the role.getting a big time actor would almost be a waste of money.

    • @sharose — He’s not playing Darth Vader. Darth Vader was killed at the end of Revenge of the Jedi. He’s playing the lead villain, like Darth Vader was.
