Rihanna Completes The Elaborate Tattoo Work On Her Hand

Earlier this month we saw video of Rihanna getting her hand tattooed in the traditional Maori way (with a hammer and chisel) and today we learn that she went and got the entire hand tattoo completed in a recent 11 hour session at the Bang Bang NYC tattoo shop. Rihanna’s tattoo artist Keith Bang Bang McCurdy spoke exclusively to E! News about Ri Ri’s new ink and provided the photos you can see below. It’s no secret that Rihanna is a fan of body art but I didn’t expect her new hand tattoo to be quite so … elaborate. Check out the photos below and see what Rihanna’s hand looks like now.

E! News has exclusively learned that the pop singer added to her extensive tat collection over the weekend while in the Dominican Republic, when famous celeb tattoo artist Bang Bang McCurdy and Cally-Jo of Bang Bang NYC tattoos flew to RiRi on Sunday to begin the 11-hour session. The new body art was incorporated with the already existing Maori tattoo on Rihanna’s right hand, which she recently got to commemorate her recent trip to New Zealand during her Diamonds world tour, which was applied with a mallet and a chisel (ouch!). Bang Bang exclusively tells E! News, “We drew on her hand from 7 p.m. to midnight. We were drawing and changing things. I’d take a break and Cally-Jo would draw, then I’d draw…The inspiration was henna art, we wanted something really decorative, feminine and sexy. We thought that was the closest in style where we could shift and make it look decorative.” He continued, “She had something preexisting on her hand. So it was a little bit of a cover up, but also making it look good, wanted to make sure it flowed. We needed to work with what she already had,” and added, that it was “difficult, because the stuff she already had was a pattern on skin. We were trying to fit the body with what she already had. Mend the two styles with a new style. “Her hand is not something you can put away. We went over and over. It was a struggle to design. She even took a nap when we were drawing. We started over, until we found the direction she liked.” In fact, Bang Bang admits this is one of the “most challenging design I’ve done on Rihanna before,” saying, “This one had elements to it that were very unique, covering up pieces of it, combining pieces of it, making up new pieces.” Once the session was over, he tells us that Rihanna was more than pleased with the final product. “Ri flipped out! Absolutely loved it, loved it! It’s a hard thing when you get a tattoo and not absolutely love it. It’s uncomfortable to have something on your hand, especially when it’s in such a visible spot, and she’s such a visible person. Your hand is as closely related as your face. If you think about it, her hand is right there and the whole world is watching it.”

Yeah, that is some tattoo. I’m glad she likes it because this is a tattoo that is not easily hidden. I’m certain that Rihanna’s newest tattoo has special meaning to her, or, at least, I hope it does. The girl is hardcore, tho. Hand tattoos, I understand, hurt very much because of all the bones involved. Still, if this is how Rihanna wants to decorate her body, then she has every right to do so. I’m not crazy about the ink around her fingernail bed but the rest of the elaborate tattoo is very interesting, to say the least. What do you think of Rihanna’s hand tattoo? Are you a fan?

I bet she wanted to cover up the CB tat that they both have….

  • Krissy

I get the feeling she didn’t like her Maori tattoo? She is pretty much covering that up it seems.

I think it would have looked a lot better if she didnt get the black around her nail beds. That looks like she has a nasty cuticule infection or frostbite.

the first mahori tattoo isn’t covered at all. in order to cover she’d need a different design than what she’s having cause there’s no way this could cover it.

i personally like the new addition

Inspired by henna…..that is exactly what henna looks like lol, and it’s temporary for a reason, ppl!

The bigger shock to me is Rihanna sans make-up. #normalpeopledo

She does know tattoos are permanent, right? I give it a couple years before she starts to really regret this.
