Watch: Britney Spears Formally Announces Her 2-Year Concert Residency In Las Vegas, Which Begins In December

SO, the moment that Britney Spears fans have been waiting for ever since we heard the first rumors back in April 2012 about a possible concert residency in Las Vegas, NV has finally come … our dear Britney made an appearance on Good Morning America earlier today via satellite from a desert in Nevada to formally announce to the world her 2-year concert residency (made up of 96 performances) at Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino. Is the world ready for Planet Britney: Piece of Me? I surely hope so … because performances begin this December and tickets HAVE ALREADY GONE ON PRESALE! There’s a lot of information to share regarding today’s announcement, so read on … learn more … and start planning those trips to Vegas, baby!!

Here is the series of tweets that Britney posted on her official Twitter profile all morning long as fans watched for her appearance on GMA this morning:

GOOD MORNING AMERICA! Holy moly it’s early. But today is the day! Are u ready tweeps?! / So so excited to FINALLY share something (not-so-)secret with u all… stay tuned ;) @GMA / We’ve got liftoff @GMA!!!!

Y’all that will be the last time u EVER see me in a helicopter. Love u @GMA & that was INCREDIBLE but helicopters are not for this girl :( / But yes it’s TRUE! Proud to announce that I will be taking over Vegas at @phvegas starting in Dec. #PlanetBritney / I want to see ALL of your faces there over these next two years… I mean it!! Tickets for the 1st shows go on sale this Fri 9/20 @ 10am PST / .@AmericanExpress Card Members can get early access to tix until 9/19 at 10pm PST HERE #PlanetBritney / Spread the word! #PlanetBritney #PieceOfMe #December2013

Tickets are already available for pre-sale for American Express cardholders — and I must admit, I spent a bit of time already securing tickets for these shows as soon as I woke up. Unfortch, I will be missing Britney’s first 4 shows because I will be in Japan but I’m planning on catching 2 shows at the end of January when her second weekend of shows take place (January 29 and January 31). Wee!! Here is video of Britney’s interview and live appearance on Good Morning America earlier today:

This is a really great interview, one where Britney shares a lot of newish information. I highly suggest you watch the video above … highlights include Britney mentioning her painful breakup with ex-fiancée Jason Trawick (“Breakups suck, man!“), she reveals that she had her first kiss at age 13 … with Justin Timberlake, her fave song is Toxic, she talks the Miley VMAs performance and she also reveals that the most memorable dance routine of her career is the one from the Oops I Did It Again music video (“No, I’m not doing it!” — LOL). She says she’s ready to take on the task of performing 2 years of shows and says that she “feels at home on stage.”

Britney ALSO formally announced that her new album (still untitled) will be released on December 3 (one day after her birthday and a few weeks before her Planet Britney: Piece of Me shows begin in Vegas)! When asked which song is her fave/most personal, she mentioned the song Perfume — which I can confirm is a STUNNING ballad. I, personally, cannot say anything about the song but I’m fortunate enough to know a tiny bit of information about the song, which has been described to me as Britney’s Live To Tell (in reference to the stunning ballad that set a new benchmark in Madonna’s pop career back in the 80’s).

All of this is EXTREMELY exciting! I was hoping for a live performance this morning but I guess we’re going to have to wait until we see Britney formally on stage to see her perform. Honestly, while I would LOVE to be at the very first Las Vegas show in December, I don’t mind waiting a little while … let her work out the kinks in the first batch of shows before I get to experience her live :) The next few months are going to be very fun as new details about her show AND her new album begin to emerge. All of this info today is a lot to take in all once … so let it all settle, then tell me what you think! Will I see YOU in Las Vegas for Planet Britney?! Woot!!

She looked like crap. Why the caked on makeup? And tickets are only $59? Is that the cheapest show in Vegas or what?

    • @Donny — Ticket prices range from $59 – $1,500.

I have to say – I am so pleasantly surprised at this interview – they must have drastically changed her meds. She seems SO with it and back to her normal personality. No more zombie Britney!

She doesn’t look uncomfortable either! Someone pinch me. I must be dreaming. Queen Brit-Brit looks AH-MAZING!

im not a fan of the poster picture. i dont know why she loves that angle so much..its almost like she hates her neck lol. i couldnt watch all of the interview, but from what i could watch, she seems so much more comfortable. seems a bit like her old self, which is great to see.

Come hell or high water, I will make my way to Vegas (all the way from Massachusetts) with a Meet and Greet ticket in hand! Or waiting for me at Will Call, either way. Any tips for newbie’s at attempting to get these VIP-type passes anyone? I’ve secured great seats to shows before but this is a whole other league, advice is welcome! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts, Trent, when you see her!

    • @Jamie O. — I understand the Meet & Greet tickets are already sold out for the initial run of shows. My advice would be to pick a date well in the future that you can plan a trip around and attempt to get m&g tix then. I want to meet and greet her too but I prolly won’t attempt to do so until next Spring or Summer.

    • Jamie O.

@Trent- thanks so much. That’s what I was thinking- summer will probably be my attempt. I heard back from someone at the VIP company that they are sold out for the listed concerts, and that in early 2014 she thought new dates would be added. I teach, so summer would be easier to coordinate and go mid-week to save on airfare and hotel. I was thinking two nights, stay at PH, one show with a Meet and Greet ticket and the other night with a GA standing ticket since the VIP tables seem to be sold in groups of 6 (which I find annoying, but oh well!)- so exciting!!!
