The ‘Superman Vs. Batman’ Movie Will Film In Detroit

Detroit > Metropolis

Earlier this week we learned that Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston is up for the role of the villainous Lex Luthor in the forthcoming Man of Steel sequel film that will feature both Superman and Batman. As you may recall, we learned last week that actor/director Ben Affleck has been cast in the film as the new Batman but … let’s move the conversation back in a positive direction. It is being reported today that Detroit, MI will be among the cities where the Superman vs. Batman movie will be filmed … which is amazing news for my hometown. Detroit is currently where the next Transformers movie is being made but soon, it will become home to Superman and Batman … which just RULES all!

Metro Detroit may be transformed into Metropolis for the next DC Entertainment superhero movie, the Michigan Film Office announced Thursday. Production of the likely titled “Batman vs. Superman” is expected to take place in Toronto, Metro Detroit and other parts of Michigan in early 2014. Director Zack Snyder, according to imdb.com, said the film already is in pre-production. It’s scheduled for release July 17, 2015. “Batman vs. Superman” stars Henry Cavill, who played Superman in the original “Man of Steel,” which was released earlier this year. Ben Affleck, who played Daredevil in the the 2003 film that critics and fans jeered, was recently cast as Batman. The actor/director also starred as George Reeves, TV’s Superman, in the 2006 film “Hollywoodland.” Their “Batman vs. Superman” co-stars include Laurence Fishburne, Amy Adams and Diane Lane. “Detroit is a great example of a quintessential American city, and I know it will make the perfect backdrop for our movie,” director Zack Snyder said in a statement. “Detroit and the entire state of Michigan have been fantastic collaborators, and we are looking forward to working together on this film.” Warner Bros. Pictures has been approved for $35 million in incentive money for the film, which is projected to generate $131 million worth of in-state expenditures. More than 400 Michigan workers are expected to be hired for the production. According to a statement, the Michigan Film Office also estimates the production will use about 500 Michigan-based vendors and generate $8.6 million in expenditures in the state of Michigan.

I love that Detroit Rock City is becoming the Hollywood of the Midwest. In addition to Man of Steel 2 and Transformers 4, Ryan Gosling chose the city as the filming location for his directorial debut. A lot of great films have been made in the Detroit metropolitan area which just makes me so happy, I can’t even tell you. I’ll be sure to keep my eyes open once filming production gets underway and hopefully we’ll have great photos to share from the set. Wee!!

I read somewhere Eminem’s manager thought he’d make a good Riddler, then this announcement adds fuel to the rumour fire. I think it would be a great casting actually and I know he’d be on board, since he turned down the Elysium role since they wouldn’t shoot in Detroit – I hope it becomes reality personally.

  2. Batman and Superman sounds crazy but I am way more blow away they are making another Transformers movie!

I know nothing about what filming does to a local economy, but I hope this gives Detroit a significant economic boost too. I am rooting for the city to recover
