Last week a rumor sprung up that claimed that the members of *NSync would be reuniting on stage for a performance (or something) at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards this weekend. A day later, *NSync member Lance Bass talked about the rumor … without either confirming or denying the reunion report. Today we learn that the reunion is almost certainly going to happen NOT because any member of *NSync has confirmed the rumor … but because Joey Fatone’s father went ahead and spilled the reunion beans. Once the word got out that the reunion was deffo happening, E! News’s Marc Malkin was able to sniff more more deets about what the boyband are planning to do for the MTV VMAs on Sunday night.
Don’t kiss the *NSYNC reunion bye, bye, bye just yet. Though Lance Bass refused to confirm whether the beloved boy band would get back together at the MTV Video Music Awards Sunday night, another former *NSYNC-er’s father spilled the beans on the reunion. Joseph Fatone Sr., the father of Joey Fatone, told Radar Online that the group is indeed reuniting. And that’s not all. “They’re doing a performance,” he said. “I think it’s exciting,” Fatone Sr. added. “I couldn’t even say why he’s doing it through. Why, at this point in his life. Now he’s his own man … It’s more to the face that MTV has made then all somewhat of stars, and also made Justin a star,” said Fatone Sr., adding that he didn’t know any more details about the performance. “They will reenact some of their greatest videos in a medley,” a source told Us Weekly, noting that the group’s hit “Bye Bye Bye” will be included. “Then Justin will sing his new song ‘Take Back the Night.'” And fans will be waiting. “It’s amazing to see the reaction out there on Twitter and social media … [and] how many people are supporting *NSYNC,” Bass said Tuesday night on his SiriusXM radio show. “It’s so cute to see how many people are supporting [us].”
But according to Malkin, the guys are still deciding what songs they plan to perform:
The clock is ticking for the ‘N Sync reunion. The 2013 MTV Video Music Awards are just two days away, but the guys apparently don’t have a definite plan yet, according to a source. I’m told Justin Timberlake, J.C. Chasez, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick are currently in a New York City rehearsal space figuring out what to do. Possibilities on the table include performing just one song, a medley or keeping it to a simple appearance on stage together, but with no singing … “They know the fans want to hear them sing their biggest hits,” the source said. “But the worst case scenario is Justin getting his award with the other guys participating in the presentation in some way.”
It was announced earlier today that Jimmy Fallon will present Timberlake with the award. “If MTV has to, they’ll get the guys involved with that,” the source said.
I knew all along that an *NSync reunion of some kind was going to take place at the VMAs this weekend. It’s exactly the kind of pop culture moment that MTV prides itself on whenever the Video Music Awards roll around. Set those DVRs/VCRs or tune in Sunday night because it sounds like this year’s VMAs are a show that you’re NOT gonna wanna miss.0
